I’m behind him. Can’t wait to see him giving the ground another right hook when we drop in to the conference. Back where we started

He’ll get my support throughout the window and the start of the season. Doesn’t mean I’m happy/enthusiastic about the appointment though.

Short term until the end of the season yes. Then look in summer who is available, mark Warburton for example, and then if he is still the best man fine. Looks like a rushed/cheap job to me.

Reading this has made me more determined to get behind Caldwell, set of tworts.

Take a deep breath fellow tics, we are going over the top with all guns blazing.

GC cant do any worse than malky that’s for sure, thinking about it Gary cant fail, nobody’s expecting us to escape relegation so pressures off and if he does scrape a couple of results then at least we’ve gone down fighting. I always thought he came across as a genuine likeable guy, so good luck Gary.

Can people stop calling him GC?

Confuses the Hell out of me :(

Would have liked to have seen Gary given the job until the Summer. Think the Chairman should have waited till then, gauge the quality of applicants interested in the job and then go from there, if we still feel that Gary is the right one then fine. I’ve no problem with him getting the job, just think we have rushed the decision, however as we all should be, I’m fully behind the club and Gary.

So it’s onwards and upwards is it with a rookie chairman’and a rookie manger with a combined age of just 55???
the whole thing smacks of a club not just in turmoil but in very serious decline and I seriously will not be surprised if we are not staring at another relegation in 12 months time and beyond that is too scary to comprehend.
where does it all end is anybody’s guess but these decisions defy logic and he certainly will be taking us back to were he found us in double quick time based on the events of the previous days.
I hope I’m very very wrong!

I would have been 100 per cent behind Gary’s appointment if he could have formed his own team but to make Barrow and Black his sidekicks yet again is absolutely brain dead. I do not expect any upturn in our fortunes and I have an horrible feeling that the lad’s reputation like Rosler’s and Mackay’s will be in tatters in a few short months. I sincerely hope I’m wrong but these 2 pillocks have already been instrumental in seeing off 3 managers and the fact they are still here is bordering on ridiculous.

Good luck Gary you are going to need it.

For those who have said that it was a well thought out process I ask, why did Gary say in an interview that he was “surprised” to be offered the job?

Like others, I will still get behind the man and team, however, I am still unsure about the appointment. If, as had been mooted earlier, Makay had been under the threat of the sack since the Reading game, then the management should have been thinking at that time, or before, about who they intended to replace him with. At that time they could have made ‘polite’ enquiries around the game and been ready with that choice. Now then, because they have not done this, I believe that it was always their intention to give the job to Gary ‘when’ the time was appropriate.

Is he the man to lead us in the next season? Well I don’t know, but I would support a more substantial appointment in the Summer with Gary as the number 2 and letting Barrow and Black leave to follow new careers. Let’s hope that that scenario happens with us still in the Championship.

Where’s all this Eric Black bashing coming from?

He only came back to the club in July and since Mackay was appointed, he’s been virtually invisible on matchdays.

He was highly thought of when Bruce was our manager, and he’s a well-respected coach.

Are people confusing him with David Kerslake – who was always prominent in the technical area on matchdays? Black was the one sitting down, who Mackay never consulted.

Barrow knocking I can understand (although he was rated by Martinez), but not Black.

So please tell me your prefered Chairman & Manager ? Whelan & Redknapp ?, Tan & Hoddle ?, Mandrick & Bassett ?.
Take a reality check, plus I heard from a very close source that the players are highly delighted with his appointment and Gazza is well respected amongst the players.

Age has nothing to do with it, Caldwell has played at the highest level at both domestic and international level so I would take it that the respect from the players will be there. I would give him 2 seasons to put this mess right and build a team to fire us back into the Championship.

Don’t forget , our most successful times at Wigan have been with ex players as Manager who and have an understanding what were all about. Those who have come in with no idea have have failed. And please don’t put all the blame on managers and chairman, some of the players need to take a good look at themselves and those who don’t give a shit get out the door this summer.

I thought it said on tv that he was on a rolling contract. Just like to say to all the people on here who said play 2 strikers, well it really worked didn’t it. I never saw the point of it unless we had quality like Ellington and Roberts but, we all know how far we are from that. Better playing an extra midfielder in my opinion. I’ll give McKay his due though, he did try quite a few formations.

He did but with the wrong players, Clarke is not good enough it’s as simple as that. And for the people who said Reira, Delort and McKay aren’t good enough can you please tell me how you came to the decision ? purely because the manager didn’t play them ?. Well looking on MacKays performances he might have just got that one wrong as well

I’ve seen Riera and Delort play, and in my opinion, Delort was not good enough. Two manager also felt the same.

I thought Riera showed more promise.

McKay – I’ve not seen enough of him to decide either way.

And Clarke isn’t good enough in my opinion.

                #141070

I have seen McKay for a full 60 minutes in a Development game – so not very high level. Reminded me of Boselli.

Kept running into space, but “non-productive” space, if you know what I mean, so the ball didn’t come to him. Didn’t do enough in my eyes on his own to make things happen. Maybe a poacher if others do the work, but at Championship level need to create more himself.

Just one game, to be fair, and what we’ve got isn’t working, but as I keep saying – many are asking why he isn’t playing as though he is the answer to all our problems.

He isn’t. I hope he can become that though. Maybe with the correct support around him.
