26 November 2013 at 2:41 pm #123820He always played free flowing attacking football, always set his team up right for every match, his tactics were near on perfect all the time and he always had a plan B for when plan A failed.
Those were indeed his objectives. But against clubs with increasing squads of much more skilful players, his cut-price team was always likely to struggle.
I doubt that we will ever have a manager as innovative as Martinez again. He would make subtle adjustments to players’ positions throughout a game. Once again on Saturday he demonstrated his ability to change the tactics during a game.
His introduction of three at the back, with Boyce and Beausejour as wingbacks, was a master stroke. It didn’t just happen overnight – it took three months of training. And it was still a very daring step to take.
The team he cobbled together for the Cup Final from the remnants of his squad was another unlikely tactical success. It was always going to find the next game at Arsenal a game too many. But not many fans would now swap Premier League survival for winning the cup.
When you suggest that he had no Plan B, I assume you mean that he wouldn’t abandon the desire to play good football. That, of course, is true and to his credit. I hope the Everton fans appreciate their good fortune.
26 November 2013 at 3:34 pm #123826Come on lads, cut it out now. You should know by now you are not allowed to have an alternative opinion on Roberto.
He always played free flowing attacking football, always set his team up right for every match, his tactics were near on perfect all the time and he always had a plan B for when plan A failed.Oh, here we go again. Not one of those acquaintances of mine who were members of the Martinez “fan club” ever, ever claimed that he was perfect, far from it. But, if you want to lie and fabricate things to suit your already flawed and obsessive anti-Martinez argument, knock yourself out.
He will always be remembered for his playing days at Latics, and with a bit more honesty and integrity in those last few months he would have been remembered by most people with more fondness as a manager.Of all the utter bollocks you lot have spouted on this and other threads, this bit takes the biscuit! Go on, back up the bits in bold/italic with one tiny shred of evidence? And please, spare me any ridiculous conspiracy theories that he was happy for us to be relegated just so that he could justify leaving. For one thing, according to you lot, his tactical knowledge was so bad that if he deliberately set out to lose he’d probably wind up winning!
I know you lot live in a very weird and bizarre place up there, but I didn’t realise it was actually Fantasy Island.
26 November 2013 at 4:14 pm #123829Lostock – in case you don’t read The Independent, Ian Herbert reported yesterday;
But Martinez’s side played some gorgeous football. Phil Jagielka is the prime example of the fact that relearning the game need not take an eternity. Ross Barkley looks as if Martinez has been managing him all his life.
The Spaniard’s biggest challenge was to douse talk of a top-four finish – “too early; ask in March” – but nothing can disguise early signs he will build a big reputation at Goodison.
26 November 2013 at 4:16 pm #123830We could rename this thread “How long before the top six Spaniard” or “How long before ‘oof ball owen”
Which would people prefer?
Alternatively we could just accept that Martinez has left, is doing a good job at Everton and discuss Wigan Athletic? Then again, at least it’s stopped the 18 miliion rugby threads we used to have.

You’re right, Coyle must love this anti-Martinez stuff – it’s certainly keeping everyone off his ranty, shouty-mouthed, full-kit wankered back!

By heck lad for an intelligent chap you aren’t half easy to reel in at times.Filmoss is right with what he says about you.
I thought you had had enough of this board and left us all to it.
I’m not going to respond to your remarks as I just can’t be arsed as it’s all a big wind up to get the ‘luvvies’ backs up anyway.
Even if everything I say is a true reflection of my real thoughts, they are only opinions and shouldn’t really be being taken as seriously as some have done.
You and your little group will stick together just as we will, and that’s what makes for a healthy board.
I’m sure you’ll agree if we were all of the same opinion about everything, it would be an even more boring place to visit.
As for being a very weird and bizarre place up here, where the feck do you think I live? I may have a PR postcode but I live about 2 miles nearer to the DW than to Deepdale.28 November 2013 at 3:41 am #123911horc wrote:

Do you really think these threads are healthy debate? Fortunately, fans with the irrational views of the Bobsessives are a very small minority.
The posts don’t wind anybody up – your Bobsession only makes you look ridiculous. But I don’t want visitors to think that your views are representative of Wigan fans.
You’ve had your little joke, such as it was. Can’t you now find a better use for this board? Surely there is enough going on at Wigan today to talk about.
28 November 2013 at 4:31 am #123912I’ll quickly run through the points you made to clarify a few things for you.
1. Do you really think these threads are healthy debate?
If you look at the amount of reply’s, then Yes it is
2. Fortunately, fans with the irrational views of the Bobsessives are a very small minority.
There appears to be a even split on here, whether that is representative of all Latics fans we don’t know. BTW,just because peoples views differ from yours it doesn’t make them irrational.
3. The posts don’t wind anybody up – your Bobsession only makes you look ridiculous
I beg to differ on this one as you wouldn’t keep on replying to all the posts if you weren’t arsed. As for being obsessed with Bob, I think you need to look a little nearer home son.
4. But I don’t want visitors to think that your views are representative of Wigan fans
They are pretty representative of Latics fans as already stated in the reply to point number 2. As for visitors thinking this, well I’m sure there must be some, but I don’t think the number is earth shattering.
5. You’ve had your little joke, such as it was. Can’t you now find a better use for this board? Surely there is enough going on at Wigan today to talk about.
I have a strong feeling it will continue for a while as you can’t help yourself from replying, such is you obsession with all things Bob. You are right, there are other things to talk about and if you cared to look at any other thread than this one you would see healthy debate on other threads as well.
Anyway thanks for your input again, and well done for not getting wound up and partaking again in a healthy debate about our previous manager.

Correct Mr H.
On reflection I think WGTB is actually obsessed with us “out of town” supporters, to the point of cyber stalking us. Maybe it’s our many years of loyalty to the Latics that makes us a rare breed and so attractive ! Anyway, with the amount of money that we’ve spent following the Latics over many years we are entitled to our opinions & beliefs. Not gonna be dictated to by some JCL !
Come on you Stoke ! for a shock win at Goodison. Tee Hee !
28 November 2013 at 12:16 pm #123915Just one bit of this that confuses me. If in your opinion Martinez was such a poor Manager (and at times I would fully agree) then why are you bothered he left? Surely it was a cause for celebration?

Do you really thing I would have a serious fall out with someone I know personally, even one who effs and jeffs in front of my 9-year old lad? ;)
And you know that I know Phil well (as much as I wish I didn’t ;) ) and he can’t be right about me – he’s never been right about anything, particularly choice of headwear.
However, planned wind-up or not, the Leyland Diminutiv’s original position on this is still hopelessly flawed, pathetic and obsessive. So, me and the others who agree with me are right. And that’s my last word on it ;
Oh, and a PR postcode is far enough away from Wigan to invalidate any views its residents may have ;)
Close the thread!!

It’s best to leave it here.
29 November 2013 at 3:29 am #123965Leave me out of your bickering ! My hats are legendary in certain circles ha ha ha ! I dont really give a fcuk what happens to RM now but I have had a bet with my mate that Everton don’t finish in the top 8 and so I hope that comes off as it is £20 ! RM’s time with us was very much up and down with the emphasis being on down but we did win the FA Cup and we must thank him for that !
30 November 2013 at 1:40 am #124081Well I am positive that Everton will not be in the top 8 this season ! If they lose Baines and Fellaini they wont even finish in the top half !Fellaini left ages ago and Baines is injured and out for a while, do you still feel it will be a bottom half finish for them considering the good start they have made?
