Times are changing and such simple comparisons are difficult to make. Moyes achieved one top four finish in ten years, but competition is increasing as more and more clubs acquire wealthy owners.

Manchester City were not a power when Moyes took over as Everton manager in 2003.
Abramovich arrived at Chelsea in June 2003. A club like Southampton now has enormous spending power.

I don’t know how much the owners of Hull and Cardiff are willing to pour into their clubs. In the Championship, chairman of Leicester City Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha has swapped debt of £103 million for shares in the club.

Everton have finished above Liverpool in the last two seasons. You could attribute that to bad management at Liverpool as much as good management at Everton. But Liverpool are now emerging as a strong force once again.

Perhaps Manchester United will suffer a similar dip following their change of manager. And Arsenal will have to change their manager at some point in the future.

So it’s a pointless exercise to compare the performance of Everton this season game by game with last season. But it is reasonable to compare their position in the league with their position in the table of annual wages. Everton should come around ninth in that.

However, Moyes failed to gain a single victory at Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United in 46 attempts. Martinez has already exceeded that.

I believe Bill Kenwright gave RM the job because he really believes that he is the man to get them a top 4 finish, now if RM can deliver then he will have been a sound investment, if not then it’s groundhog day for poor little Everton !

I think people forget that Moyes wasn’t sacked or replaced so Everton got move ‘to the next level’. Moyes left Everton of his own accord to join Manchester United.

Everton were more than happy with Moyes, so if Martinez at least matches where Moyes had them, of course it’ll be deemed a good replacement.

The Top 4 finish was a throwaway comment that was used to appease the Everton fans who were pished off at losing their manager and equally as pished off at the appointment of what they saw as a poor replacement.

I can understand people fishing for trout on some remote loch in NW Scotland,or fishing for marlin whilst on an exotic holiday.
What I cannot get is why a bloke from Wigan would sit on a canal bank opposite the old bone works hoping to catch a perch no bigger than his dick!

Fishing (in Wigan) is what dickheads do.

Now,can we get back to football?

      numpty boy.
I have done all of the above EXCEPT fish the canal in Wigan, especially opposite the old bone works.(well, not for a very long time anyway)

nowt worse than making a cunt of yourself whilst trying and failing to make a cunt out of someone else eh sonny.

      now back to fishing.
I have just been to the River Annan for 3 days, pity it was flooded.
      BTW it’s not in Wigan

I always thought that when you get a couple of scroats up in front of the judge instead of slapping their wrists like they tend to do these days make them go fishing that will teach the little bastards!

        At least it weren’t 9-0

In 1977, Spurs beat Bristol Rovers 9-0.

I have noticed that Roberto has changed into a right whinger, the referee this, the referee that, cheating teams, etc, etc. Was never like that at Wigan. Is the pressure beginning to tell, Is his façade beginning to slip ?

            #127698

Here we are again! Thank you for reminding us of the foolishness of some of our fans.

Everton and Roberto had a purple patch before Christmas when they could do no wrong. Now the pendulum has swung to the other side and everything is going against them.

The truth is that Everton do not have the resources to compete with clubs who can pay their players £200,000 and even £300,000 per week.

It looks unlikely that Wigan will be drawn against Everton in the next round of the cup.

I thought you wanted your adopted thread to keep on running and running ? It is quite obvious that fans will post accordingly. Had they have beaten Chelsea you would have been straight on here gushing at the fact that they had done the double over Chelsea!
