    Yes – it’s often been an unwanted reward for success. Recent winners of the League Cup have had contrasting fortunes;

    2008 Tottenham Hotspur Manager Juande Ramos – sacked
    2009 Manchester United Manager Alex Ferguson – entered Champions League
    2010 Manchester United Manager Alex Ferguson – entered Champions League
    2011 Birmingham City Manager Alex McLeish – relegated and moved to Aston Villa
    2012 Liverpool Manager Kenny Dalglish – sacked
    2013 Swansea City Manager Michael Laudrup – sacked
    2014 Manchester City Manager Manuel Pellegrini – should enter Champions League

    Even success in the Europa League may not be enough;

    2013 Europa League Winners Chelsea Interim Manager Rafael Benítez – replaced by Jose Mourinho

    Arsenal are faltering in the top four. They are out of the race for the Premier League title and are now fighting for a Champions League place and an appearance at Wembley.

    Bottom Four Bob has taken Everton to just six points behind Arsenal. Everton have a game in hand – and Arsenal still have to go to Goodison. Bottom Four Bob may be able to do us a good turn.

    This weekend
    Arsenal v Man City
    Fulham v Everton

    Next weekend
    Everton v Arsenal

    The following weekend, it’s the semifinal. Perhaps Arsenal will have had the stuffing knocked out of them by then.

    Maybe bottom four Bob will get the job that he has longed for since his arrival in the Premier League; when we beat Arsenal and “old windmill arms” quits !

      It has been a rumour for a long time now that RM is a shoe in for the Arsenal job ! He wouldnt just drop Everton like a stone for that job would he ? :silly:

      This time last season ( After 26 games )they were 6th and just 6 pts off a Champions League spot, whereas this season after 26 games they are 7th and 9 pts off the so called promised land! If that is progress then so be it !

      Still no kind words for Roberto!

      And now – after 30 games – Everton are in fifth place and seven points behind Arsenal but with two games in hand.

      Today Everton play at Fulham and next Sunday are home to Arsenal. Perhaps Roberto will be able to give Kenwright a top four place after all.

        To his credit, Martinez has kept Everton – very much against expectations – in the competition for fourth place.

        It’s certainly going to be an interesting run-in.

        If Liverpool win all their matches, they will be Champions. And the same goes for Man City. It should be a great match between them.

        In the battle for fourth place, Everton play Arsenal at home on Sunday. That should be a great game too. Everton could beat them next weekend, then Wigan could too the following weekend.

        News of Bottom Four Bob – or could it be Top Four Bob?

        Under Roberto, Everton have taken 60 points from 31 games. With seven games to play, they are within reach of the highest total of points, 65, achieved under Moyes.

        They go into their home game against Arsenal on a run of five wins in their last five league games, the first time in 11 years that they have won five in a row.

        A win against Arsenal would put them one point behind Arsenal with a game in hand. If they can finish above Arsenal, they will finish in the top four – and win a place in the Champions League competition.

        They have some tough games ahead, including a home game against Man City which could determine whether the title goes to Man City or Liverpool.

        I think Everton will be happy with the progress made under Martinez. Moyes has a lot of hard work ahead of him at United, assuming that he carries on there next season.

        Who said;

        Well I am positive that Everton will not be in the top 8 this season ! If they lose Baines and Fellaini they wont even finish in the top half !

        And who said;

        I really do think that both sets of supporters are totally deluded, if they feel their teams are good enough for CL football.

        My prediction; Liverpool 8th, Everton 14th.

          It’s easy to throw the stats around at this time of the season when no medals are given out in the EPL; however, I have to agree that he’s doing a great job, but he has not yet fulfilled his promise to BK. :ohmy:

          It’s very unusual for Martinez to promise anything, but that’s exactly what he did when he took the Everton job on…….CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

          Let’s leave the accolades until he’s done that shall we. :whistle:

          Whilst we are talking bets, I am going to throw a bit of money on this double.

          Liverpool to not win the EPL and Everton to not qualify for the champions league. B)

          But you have consistently underestimated both Liverpool and Everton. Or is it just prejudice against the teams from Liverpool?

          I don’t think that there’s much between either Liverpool and City or Everton and Arsenal. City have to go to Liverpool, and to Everton too. Arsenal have to go to Everton. These games will be like cup ties – and home advantage may tell.

          We know that City are beatable – and Arsenal still have a distraction!

          Can’t find a bet for Liverpool not to finish top.

          City are 5/6 with BetVictor to win title.

          Everton not to finish in top four; Coral and BetVictor 7-2.

            My comments were made before his rather expensive loan signings ! If it makes you feel better I will hold my hands up and say that I may have underestimated him, lets just hope that they don’t become like Arsenal, content with finishing 3rd or 4th every season whilst winning fuck all !

              No this applies to all teams than other than Wigan Athletic. :cheer:

              Took 3/1 for Everton not finishing in top 4 and city to win league at 8/11. The odds are not as good as you quoted, but I’m linked in to Betfair having amassed a very large kitty. :whistle: B)

              And before the sale of Fellaini – that funded the new signings.

              A challenge for the League title is beyond their resources, but Martinez could aim at winning a cup.

              As we have seen, you need a big squad to compete in Europe.

              They’ll have to be content with 3rd or 4th every year because Everton simply don’t have the money to compete with City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, United or even Spurs.
