Roberto would certainly need a bigger squad to compete in the Champions League and the Premier League.
Roberto would have to master squad rotation quickly too. Neither he, nor Rodgers come to that, have much experience of this. Moyes is getting valuable experience of it at United this year, just as Rosler is at Wigan.
In future years, Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester United should be able to offer greater domestic competition as well. But a higher league position, the Champions League, greater television fees and bigger crowds should all bring in more revenue for Everton.
7 April 2014 at 6:50 pm #129564Let’ us see if he can sustain his lucky start from the team he inherited from moyes over a prolonged period, I await the FAT LAD & his witty retort :)
We’ve been short of ridiculous comments recently.
Keep ’em coming! On to 800![/quote]
I agree with The Torch, Roberto is just a one season wonder. Just a pity he couldn’t manage at least one good season out of four for Wigan.

Overseeing little Wigan winning the FA Cup obviously doesn’t count as a good season then?
7 April 2014 at 7:30 pm #129566That’s better!
Let’s keep this thread going all next season too!

7 April 2014 at 7:53 pm #129569If we hadn’t been relegated, then we wouldn’t be in the running for the play-offs!
Thank you, Roberto.

7 April 2014 at 8:01 pm #129573Business on the thread has been slack recently. Like us, it needs promotion.

I don’t think that will come as the most surprising news this board has ever heard. Paddling in the same gene pool.

So Roberto was lucky that Mr Whelan made Jimmy Mac go to Everton and he was really lucky that Chelsea & City just dumped Lukaku & Barry at Goodison. And he was spawny that suddenly Ross Berkley has forced himself into the first team. Of course Roberto Martinez did not want or choose any of these players. Mr Whelan must be wrong when he says Roberto is the best young manager in Europe obviously he meant to say the luckiest.
8 April 2014 at 4:09 am #129600One thing he has been lucky with is the form of the top 4/6 teams.
United are in a transitional period shall we say and 99 times out of hundred would finish above Everton.
Spurs are also going through tough times under Sherwood, who to be fair is only beginning to learn his trade.
Arsenal, have had key players missing and looked a shadow of themselves on Sunday.
In my opinion this seasons premier league is probably poorest its been for years, so whilst Bobby has done really well at Everton, for me, he has been helped by the general form of the top teams.
You only have to look at Liverpool being top of the league and that tells you how competitive the EPL is this season. Take Suarez out of that team and you have a mid table team at best.
These are all my opinions so I know others will have different views on this and its not all about wanting Martinez to fail. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!8 April 2014 at 9:35 am #129602I largely agree, JR.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City all started the season with new managers. Arsenal – still under Wenger – appear to be in long term decline.
Tottenham sold Bale and, with the proceeds, should have asserted themselves this season. Instead, they squandered the money and sacked Villas-Boas. Liverpool, out of the title race for the last four years, have been rebuilding under Rodgers.
Everton, under Moyes, were able to finish above a disorganised Liverpool in the last two years. This year, although Liverpool have recovered, Manchester United and Tottenham have slipped.
This has given Everton the opportunity to compete with Arsenal for fourth place, and Martinez has seized the opportunity.

I honestly don’t believe you bothered replying to him. This mon is the daftest poster since Wiganmon.
Oh, hang on…
14 April 2014 at 2:08 am #129877Bad news for Arsene – Roberto has taken Everton into the fourth place for the Champions League.
Good news for Arsene – you could still win a place in the Europa Cup.
