21 July 2015 at 3:09 pm #143391Isn’t it time to look at who we have?
Keepers
O’Donnell, NichollsDefenders
Taylor, Perch, Barnett, Pearce, Morgan, Daniels.Midfielders
McCann, Huws, Cowie, Chow, Perkins, Power, OdelusiFowards
McKay, Holt, Davies, GriggAdd to this the youngsters (Robles, Flores etc) and Caldwell has a squad of around 20 players to work with currently.
Now when I see it in plain old black and white like that I might keep my tenner in my pocket! Can’t afford to let any other players leave now though!
21 July 2015 at 3:42 pm #143392Keepers
Yep, can live with those.
DefendersDon’t rate Taylor or Barnett, don’t know anything about Morgan and Daniels, Perch I like but not so much as a defender.
Midfield
McCann I like, Huws is crocked (again and would be gone if he wasn’t), Cowie poor, Chow will have his first full season 50/50 how he performs, Perkins, Blackpool reject, really? Power saw his last team relegated to non league, Odelusi £50k from Noblot.
Forwards
McKay I’ll give him the benefit of any doubt and judge him on a run in the team, despite my misgivings, Holt could be a handful if fit but probably on his way, Davies a crock journeyman from Noblot but I’ll give him the same time of day as McKay. Grigg? yes please.
Robles, Flores and Cosgrove would be getting runs out before the majority of the above mob.
In conclusion, I think we’ll have a leaky defence, a powder puff midfield, our 2 good keepers will be busy and I think Griggs may be starved and that would be a real shame as he is full of goals.
7/1 is a joke with that team, who had to rely on 2 own goals at Southport.
Your 33/1 is far better value Filmoss but I think a mid table finish is the best we will do, with the squad at present. However, 100 points and a 5 times biggest budget is the biggest joke.
21 July 2015 at 7:23 pm #143398I think the club would secretly settle for mid-table to stop the slide and consolidate ready for a push to just outside the play offs the next season. Can not see any evidence yet of quality players to push for 100 pts. Again a squad should be settled going into the start of a season having played regulariy in the previous and closed season. Our squad has still to see players coming and going with pre season quickly going. I think a season to build up understandings and team spirit with a mid table position would be great and anything above that a bonus. Hopefully strong teams in all three cups with some good cup runs to build up morale and confidence for next eason too.

He has been composed and quite reserved in his interviews and I’m sure he received many hours of media training.
Maybe his guard was down during the fans forum, but it would be naive not to expect quotes to come out afterwards. Hopefully it is one lesson quickly learnt. As far as expectations are concerned, I don’t think the club would settle for mid-table. If we finish mid-table I expect Caldwell to be gone.
Looking at our squad I don’t see a big issue in defence. There is a lot of experience and proven performers at this level.
For me the biggest question mark is whether we are playing a system that creates enough chances to score 2 goals per game (same old story really)21 July 2015 at 8:58 pm #143401“At this level” is a higher level than we finished last season
21 July 2015 at 9:58 pm #143402Looking at Bristol City’s squad last year I wouldn’t say that looked like a 99 point team. I’ve not a clue what standard is in this league. All I know is that most of those that have left were miles off in the championship and if that’s where we are aiming to get back to I would start again. Spoke to Gary in May when he commented that most of the squad seemed flat and mentally scarred from last season. Least he has done what he said he would.
