The Americans in Boston and New York who put their money into collection boxes to fund republican terrorists may have a little idea what he is on about.
20 July 2015 at 9:31 pm #143372In 1920 at Croke Park British troops without cause massacred 12 Irish men and 2 young lads watching a Gaelic football game (and that’s not hyperbole – it’s accepted by the British Government and the findings of a British Army inquiry of the time whose findings were hidden).
In 2007 the British anthem was listened to with respect and applauded by the crowd at that very same stadium, which has for nearly 90 years represented Republicanism.
McClean is showing a distasteful edge to his beliefs seriously out of kilter with others.
20 July 2015 at 10:24 pm #143374There were 1000 Garda around the outside of the ground that day keeping an eye on the hardened republican protests that were going on, James McClean is also an hardened republican and in a democratic society has every right to not recognise the national anthem if he so chooses! Some folk on here might consider getting themselves a tank top,a pipe and getting a season ticket for The Hammers! If it ever went to a vote whether to usurp the queen and her cronies or not I bet it would be a close call! The royal family don’t do votes though do they! In the meantime you won’t catch me standing to that servile bollocks, which reminds me, did any of you Queen lovers buy The Sex Pistols ‘God Save The Queen’ ? If you did, why?
20 July 2015 at 10:54 pm #143377Fil MOss – you and I seem to be on the same wave length here. I also have little respect for the biggest benefit scroungers this country has!!
20 July 2015 at 11:36 pm #143379I thought you’d be a fan of the Queen Fil with her being a German and all.

21 July 2015 at 1:34 am #143381Well at least he is West Broms embarrassment now and not ours. We do not have to make up any excuses for him anymore.

You can’t take the money with one hand, whilst giving the V with the other and expect not to insult people.
Ps. No Queen love here. Far from it. And even if the National Anthem was dropped in favour of something by Billy Bragg, I’d still expect it to be respected by someone earning a very good living in the country that that anthem represents.
PPS. Never bought God Save The Queen.
21 July 2015 at 4:01 am #143384James McClean is guilty of nothing more than rank bad manners. Knowing his views and his explanation for holding them, he would have gained my unreserved respect by showing his own respect to others.
To those of you wanting a Republic, all I can say is be careful what you wish for (I also said that when people were hoping we would get relegated from the Premier League).
Who would we have for President? Sepp Blatter, Len McCluskey, Griff? … come to think of it, might not be a bad idea – “GRIFF for PRESIDENT”
21 July 2015 at 4:59 am #143385He chose to shun the national anthem and I would do the same, it isn’t a crime is it? He may share some of my reasons for doing it whilst having his own reasons but at the end of the day he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t really! I won’t go into my numerous reasons for my anti royal stance as I might get ‘Bumped off’ or something! They are good at that sort of thing!
21 July 2015 at 1:46 pm #143387For the first time ever on this forum I am actually interested in your views Fil. Please go into detail on your anti Royal stance. I promise you I will be the first one to protest if they bump you off.

21 July 2015 at 5:02 pm #143394Whilst i agree he has every right not to do it (as are his beliefs and rights as a human) i have to completely agree that the fact he deliberately turned his back and showed his disgust for it was a step too far. Everybody knows his stance on it and knows he wouldn’t have crossed his arm over his chest singing boisterously but he has started playing on it now, Letting everybody know every time it’s time to do it again. The show of petulance was (well petulant) but i agree. He should have just stood in the line and bowed his head. The Americans wouldn’t have had a clue what was going on but he made that much of a scene everybody couldn’t fail to notice. Are you sitting down Yosser? I agree 100% with that. And I’m a MacLean fan.

Well, if I could count on you vote, Mr Git…?
21 July 2015 at 8:12 pm #143399Tony Pulis has confirmed that he has spoken to James McClean after the winger turned away during the playing of the National Anthem before a West Brom friendly in the US.
McClean’s gesture before the game against Charleston Battery in Orlando prompted heated debate across social media platforms.
“I had a chat with him and explained what we do as a football club and the way we are, and I think he’s fine with everything,” said Pulis.
“We’ve got Northern Ireland lads in the squad and he’s been absolutely fantastic with them, and the way he’s mixed and integrated with the group has been brilliant.
“He thought he was OK to close his eyes and put his head down in respect of both anthems. The trouble is he’s got to face the flag.”
