We all know that as supporters we get the shitty end of every stick in everyway possible.
However this has been diabolically organised regarding the distribution of the few tickets available .
      642 tickets available

Corporate ones to mates etc accounted for 102

Sales via queue and phone sales (which was shambolic to say the least ) 390

Exceutive trip tickets , still in the bank , numbering 150

The club announce an overnight trip with the players for under £500 an hour after the last ticket is sold .
Not quite exploitation but supply and demand of the highest order .
The price is reasonable after the outrageous prices for Belguim and Russia , maybe a little competion has brought the price into more reasonable lines

The club are aledgedly hands held by Maribor over extra tickets whilst supporters sit nervously wondering why there is an uneasy silence coming out of the club after travel plans have been made .
Is the supporters liason officer dependent on which girl (or ticket master operative ,how helpful were they this morning ? ) you happen to drop on after a call bypassing the phone system by pressing the wigan warriors number and acting numb ?

Because the silence and ” we will let you know attitude ” today is awful

Compared to the cost of Kazan trip this appears to be CHEAP… Could this be due to the fact that Vital Latics are doing a trip at a competitive price? I wonder if Vital hadn’t have orgainised a trip what the cost would have been? and what’s the betting as soon all the tickets for this trip have been sold more tickets will be made available B) Why didn’t the club advertise this trip prior to the tickets being made available? But to advertise it an hour after selling all the initial allocation, and with comments made by people associated with the club that we may not get anymore, smells of scare tactics in order to sell their own trip.
      Lets wait and see ;)

Wrong. It’s due to the fact that the aircraft for Kazan is around four times the price of the aircraft for the trip to Maribor – due to necessary range of the aircraft, the configuration of the aircraft (required to the duration of the flight – ensuring the players don’t arrive there with DVT or stiff as a board – thus it means a ‘standard’ aircraft can’t be used) and the fact than only certain airlines have the necessary permits to fly into Russia.

The trip to Bruges was a similar price to this – but it wasn’t advertised as there were only 20-ish seats available.

You can drop the conspiracy theories. The Maribor trip was always planned to go on sale early today. The club didn’t expect all tickets to go so quickly.

Quote “who is to blame – The Club????” Of course the club is to blame  The proviso for getting a ticket was that you had to show your travel arrangements.
When has Wigan Athletic EVER shown anything but contempt for the average fan?

The way I read it was you had to tell your travel arrangements, if you said you hadn’t booked it meant how you were planning to travel and to confirm once finalised.

It is quite irrelevant though at the end of the day, those who want to find fault will do, the facts are the Club have done everything they could, and a lot sooner than they needed to.

I am amazed they announced the VIP trip so soon, I thought they would have waited longer, but was there ever going to be a good time for those that want to shoot the Club down at every opportunity?

The Belgium trip was entrusted to Shearings and the price announced by them.

The Kazan trip is not that bad a price for what you get for the money.

This is all on expectation, and I feel the expectation was that only 500 was going to go.

Gekko, what the hell is that final paragraph about?

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

Why did you ask for my bank account details for a “refund”?

I paid by credit card ;)

You paid sport options a deposit by credit card, I am not sport options and have no connection with them whatsoever other than having to use an ATOL bonded travel agent to sell this flight package, as I said to you I will refund your deposit personally seeing you are that unhappy, I cannot be fairer than that, it will leave you plenty time to book on the official club VIP trip.[/quote]
Tell you what LMB, f’ck ’em. Most unofficial trips organised by Flight Options etc don’t offer refunds if you don’t get a ticket.

You’re offering a service over and above the norm and getting sh1t for it.

Gekko, what the hell is that final paragraph about?…….

I know you like to side with the club but the only information coming out is half cocked and rumour

There are people that have booked flights ,week long holidays and done everything to get time off work etc for this trip

Instead of a we will just wait and see lets have a proper statement from the club with a bit of empathy attached

If folk showed the same passion for getting out of bed yesterday morning than they have shown abusing fellow fans and the club the last 24 hours am sure they wouldnt be complaining. Suddenly the club shows contempt to its fans and certain posters are smug thieves! Facts are this club has done nothing but look after its fans over the last ten years with the best value ticket prices in the country on average. Even a bloody VIP trip with the team is 475 quid and folk complain. Our club doesnt decide away allocations, have given everyone two months notice and still they get lambasted.

How much do you want for your tickets bigun? Seeing as its a match against some shitehawk Slovenian side or however you put it.

              Gekko, your bang on lad.

I’m not in the category of slating anyone that’s organised the day trip btw, fair play to them. There didn’t appear any risks attached when that one was booked.

When people talk about the club not having to release these tickets now or we have the cheapest tickets or the VIP package isn’t expensive foe what it is etc, wtf has that got to do with the price of fish in Taiwan?
People on the phones yesterday ended up ringing 10p per minute numbers over the course of an hour and ending up with ticketmaster, who knew nowt about nowt. Meanwhile others were getting through to the ticket office and snapping up tickets.

Then there’s the realease of the VIP tickets, with the timing of it, if you’ve got the money spare and haven’t already arranged anything.
Which brings me to my next point. Who is going to go on the VIP trip? Surely everyone has already booked flights/hotels etc(unless 150 close to the club knew about this trip?) So if the package doesn’t sell, who gets the 150 tickets, players mates, the tea ladies husband? Wouldn’t suprise tbh.

if the club had sold all the (642) tickets on a first come first served-type basis (season tickets first, etc.) then I don’t think there would have been too much of a problem

the issue seems to be that the club has seemingly put aside 150 tickets for selling with “their” trip (*)

BUT there are (lets say, for sake of argument) 150 people who have already made their own travel arrangements but have now ended up without a ticket

so, the club has the match tickets but won’t sell them to the fans (unless they book on their trip)

it is not unreasonable for those people who have (currently) missed out to feel a little bit miffed provided the (*) assumption above is true

It is all probably a case of bad judgement, unfortunate timing, and possibly inaccurate assumptions. I am pretty sure that somebody at the club is already weighing up the options.

One scenario is that nobody books on the club trip and all 150 tickets become available, probably just after everybody has cancelled their flights!!

We’re not upset by the low allocation; we’re not upset by the speed at which they sold out. We’re not upset with those people that got tickets (except where they have got the gall to tell us we should have tried harder).

Fact is that it was not a fair crack to get the less than 642 tickets available. The phone system was fcuked. The travel arrangements policy was fcuked and abused. And the VIP package is blatant exploitation.

Thing is, unless you tried to get a ticket fair and square and missed out you wouldn’t understand.

LMB – by “fraud” I mean the dozens of fans who just quoted Vital Latics even though they’re not travelling your excellent package or even made any plans yet

Roy – some of us had no choice but to rely on phones when we live 300 miles away

Jay – based on Zulte, how on earth did the club not anticipate demand? And if the club had done everything they could then how do you explain the phones and the shonky travel details policy??

                #122302

Something went wrong with the phone system yesterday & i can understand those who got caught up in that being miffed at missing out on a ticket. The club should apologise for that – whether they could offer any of them any of the 150 VIP tickets is open to debate as it’d just lead to a flood of people claiming it affected them & I suspect demand would again outstrip supply.

In fairness to the club, the official advice given to us supporters shortly after the draw was for people not to book & pay for any flights, hotels etc.. (& presumanly book leave at work) until the club was able to confirm ticket & travel details, locations, kick off times etc..
Had people followed that advice (I didn’t & knew the risks) they wouldn’t now be out of pocket if they haven’t got a match ticket. Yes the club was asking for this info yesterday before releasing tickets but I know from a friend who phoned the ticket office on Monday that if you hadn’t booked anything (coz you were waiting to find if you got a ticket), they would take your planned itinerary as a kind of deposit & release the tickets to you when you confirmed that these had been booked. Again, following this route no-one would have been out of pocket.
The big problem with asking for these details (either those already booked or planned travel) is that the club had absolutely no way of checking these details (other than knowing how many seats were available on various flights to various destinations on certain days) & so really you could have told them any old bumpf. To get round that the club could have asked for proof but some people would have complained about that.

The club can’t be blamed coz they only got given 642 tickets &/or the fact that it seems some people took a post on here that we’d get as many tickets as we wanted as gospel even though that poster stated that this had not been confirmed officially. I do think though that when they put the selling system in place they had no idea how high the demand would be for tickets.

The timing of the VIP package announcement stinks a bit as I said yesterday coz it does look a bit like “All tickets have gone but if you’re desperate we’ve got 150 more but you’ll have to chuck £500 our way to get em”. That said, people are jumping to an assumption that this 150 has come off the 642 total when in actual fact, nobody knows this for certain & they are just as likely to have been an additional amount

150 tickets featuring in the club’s trip are over and above the allocation.

These tickets are VIP tickets – ie. on the ‘long side’ sitting club oficials, the directors, the sponsors etc.

I very much doubt they’d want to put these tickets up for general sale – otherwise they could conceivably end up with the flare chuckers sitting a couple of rows behind Whelan.

Jay – based on Zulte, how on earth did the club not anticipate demand? And if the club had done everything they could then how do you explain the phones and the shonky travel details policy??

Sorry but there’s no way that the club could have anticipated the demand based purely on the Zulte game.
Yes we took 2500 to that but that wass to northern Belgium which someone could drive themselves to there & back in under a day. It’s likely that most who were looking to go to any Europa away games would have said “I’m gonna go to one” (all my mates did) & so chosen the cheapeast, easiest & nearest.
Maribor is a heck of a long way further & into eastern europe, meaning more time off work & more cost & so they would expect demand to be somewhat lower – which it no doubt is.
No doubt they would have looked at the info on various Latics fans websites & seen that there are still places available on both the fan organised trips & thought that was indicative of demand.
They had/have no way whatsoever of knowing how many people have independently booked on flights to Ljubljana, Graz, Zagreb, Venice & various other places.

In hindsight maybe the club could have asked for us to register an interest with them in advance for tickets for this game & put a different system for purchasing them. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though

I would doubt anyone thought we would get more than the 642 initially but actually on open sale yeterday there weren’t that many, as stated elsewhere. I doubt the club could have done anything more initially about the amount of tickets we got.

In terms of being out of pocket by booking early, you would have been more out of pocket than a £95 deposit, if you’d have waited till now for an easyjet/lufthansa flight or the day return had been full.

galac thanks for clearing that up.

I must hold my hands up and say that was a cock up on my part, I realised well after I had posted it that it could/would be open to abuse, the problem I have is I try too hard to be all things for all people, and was again trying to make things easier for the ones on our flight when they went for tickets, I had already been on to the ticket office and given them details(ones that are available to date) to make life easier for both parties. I fully except I was at fault over this.

As far as anyone claiming they booked flights based on what I posted on here I can only apologise, I was given information from two separate sources, I will not say from where at this time, that discussions had taken place between WAFC and Maribor officials while they were over here, and ticket availability would not be an issue, I also stated that this information was (not yet confirmed officially)

There are two months yet before this game takes place, one thing that has not been considered is we could be already eliminated by the, will there still be the same demand if this is the case. There is no obvious reason that more tickets will not become available.
