That’s strange because every betting site I’ve looked at have Meulensteen as favourite.
What’s your source for that?

Steve mclaren. Works in a chippy on wood house lane. Whelan would have to pay up his contract to the value of 17 English pounds, which is thought to be a major stumbling block. Target may be set at a cat that lives in a bin who is said to be available, and when pressed for comment, the cat said “no chance, I’m a cat, not a person”. The club have not commented one way or another on this development.

30 May 2013 at 1:20 pm #115028He has European experience, played the 3-5-2 football back in his boro days and the dutch club.
For me I would take him.

All joking aside, EL, I was actually thinking the same once you think about it.
He is an experienced and succesful manager (his England reign was hit by having a pretty poor bunch of players to pick from, and the umbrella saga was maybe ill-judged in a macho world, but hardly a hanging offence).
United were very succesful when he coached them, Middlesbrough reached a European final with him as manager, and Twente won their first Eredivisie title with him in charge.
The main criticism seems to be a dull and defensive style, but maybe we need to tighten our defence.
On reflection maybe not the worst call.
30 May 2013 at 1:32 pm #115030Agreed ….forget all the tabloid dross, the “wally with the brolly” and Dutch speak etc …He knows the game and was a highly regarded coach at Man Utd ….he did a good job with Boro even if they failed to get the Champions league spot they no doubt felt entitled to !….he allowed them to fulfil their potential… whether their supporters or the press realised that or not is a different matter.
Successful in Holland (less so in Germany admittedly) and whilst his time managing England wasn’t good at all, I’ve long thought it’s beyond anybody to get our lot playing international football with any conviction/creativity or purpose.
He’s still a ‘name’ that could attract players from within the British or European games I would have thought.
30 May 2013 at 2:04 pm #115031I’m coming round to thinking McLaren wouldn’t be too bad a shout. Made his name primarily as a coach and I think there is stil la lot of coaching some of our lads could benefit from.
I quite like the idea of Rene, but he’s a bit of an unknown quantity. You don’t get to work too closely with Alex Ferguson by being being useless though.
Interesting times.
30 May 2013 at 3:23 pm #115032Heard on radio Owen Coyle is now favourite
He is and always will be Bolton scum and i for one will not support this decision…
For me Rene M, Jonesy, Gaz Neville and even punt on De Zeuuw coming back :woohoo:
Do not go back to Paul Jewell either – thats a step backwards in my opinion, needs freshening up and for me Rene M would be perfect for that bringing with him Mike Phelan and some of Uniteds old staff and possibly loan players from united next season. :woohoo:
Up the Tics!!!
30 May 2013 at 3:32 pm #115035Two things.
1) When McLaren was mentioned on here as a possible replacement for RM way back the suggestion was ridiculed by loads !
2) Why was he a wally using a brolly in a fuckin deluge ? I would say he had some sense rather than get pissed wet through ! -
