31 May 2013 at 12:25 am #115110I don’t think that DW would ask him back considering he has just gained promotion to the Prem any how the fact is Bobster has won the FA Cup and Bruce didn’t any congrats from yourself for that feat ?
Martinez will have my eternal gratitude for the amazing feat he achieved by winning the FA cup for us, something we had no right to even dream about, but I also thank previous highs that both paul jewell and bruce gave us.
I was not a big fan of jewells attitude to the fans and was not sorry to see him leave, I was disappointed to see bruce leave and agree it left a sour taste in the mouth over the circumstances.
Because of the relegation I feel that martinez has betrayed the faith the fans bestowed on him, despite what the ‘lightside’ claim/believe he was given an easy ride off WAFC fans over his four seasons, and he has not even tried to repay some of that faith by using his perceived ability to regain premier league status.
well said that man31 May 2013 at 1:10 am #115114much of it was dull, boring mistake ridden dross far worse than anything seen under bruce
Who made the mistakes? It wasn’t Martinez, it was the players! Martinez didn’t send them out to play mistake ridden dross. Bruce did instruct them to play his way.
Yes, if Martinez had bought better players and paid higher wages, he might have achieved better results. And last season, a bigger squad would have been useful too.
Some fans, I think, have been waiting to attack Martinez. The FA Cup run got in their way, but now they are seizing their opportunity. It’s a shame they can’t show just a little gratitude – or even say nothing at all.
I honestly believe we won the FA Cup despite Roberto, not because of him.
In the early rounds he picked the poorest teams possible to try to get us knocked out, but even failed to do that.
In the later rounds and the Final we played like a different team than we did
week in week out in the Premier League (bar 3 or 4 games).
I think in the Cup games they were told to go out and enjoy themselves instead of playing to the rigid game plan of Premier League games.
Thank you Bob for being a legend in your playing days at WAFC, thanks also for giving it your best shot as a manager, and most of all thanks for letting the team play their own game in the Cup and winning us our first major Trophy. What a great feeling that still is.
You’ve gone now, and you will be remembered with fondness for your playing days and being the manager that let his team play themselves into Cup Final winners.
Although I have criticised your managerial prowess, overall it would have probably been best for our club if you had stayed and tried to put right the mess you caused, but alas you have gone and we will have to move on.
We will never forget your input in the history of Wigan Athletic.31 May 2013 at 1:24 am #115116I think in the Cup games they were told to go out and enjoy themselves instead of playing to the rigid game plan of Premier League games.I didn’t notice any difference in our approach or the way we played in cup matches over league games. The difference was we got lucky against Bournemouth and Macclesfield and managed not to make any monumental cock-ups in the others.

FFS. Even if it’s through gritted teeth give the bloke some credit.

When we lose or get relegated, it’s because of the players Martinez has signed. When we win the FA cup with those players he has singed, the players get the credit not Martinez.
No wonder you’re leaving Roberto!

The players played to Bob’s instructions and that included passing out of defence and how many times did we concede soft goals??? If your going to praise Bob for his style of play you also need to admit at times it was our undoing.

Unless Bob reads CL he’s had a very easy ride off the fans when you consider his results. He would have been sacked at any other club :woohoo:

I wouldn’t give him the chance. If he doesn’t think he’s up to the job and doesn’t want to stay then he can fook off some where else and please take Caldwell and Gomez with you

It’s a shame they can’t show just a little gratitude – or even say nothing at all.No shit – and it’s been the longest four years of their lives waiting to dive in. Quite sad really.
Back on topic, I’m more and more keen on the idea of giving that Rene Anagram fella a bash, if he’s up for it. You don’t get to work for SAF for five years by being a dickhead
31 May 2013 at 2:05 pm #115133So when bruce put “himself” first a bunch of “no-mark pricks” went into a feeding frenzy of hatred against him and relished in his ultimate demise at sunderland, but now the shoe is on the same foot with martinez he is forgiven. The words double standards don’t do you justice.
One thing in the bruce v martinez ability debate which is undeniable, bruce never “bottled” the challenge of getting a team back up that he was responsible for relegating, unlike lilly livered martinez.
Double standards? How so. Just like I don’t blame Martinez for leaving I never blamed Bruce for leaving. My dislike of Bruce was solely related to his style of play.
We’ll never agree on this. You have repeatedly expressed your preference for agricultural football whereas I am bit more classy. ;)
31 May 2013 at 2:52 pm #115136we all know the score on how to get the managers job here very simple really
all you do is
1) when asked how much would you be willing to work for, answer just above minimum wage mr whelan sir
2) when you ask whelan how much is available for team strengthening and he says after coughing and nearly choking on his coffee, well there is very little to give you see ,ive just bought a hotel in barbados for ten million
there wis a warchest but cant remember where i left it,just reply ok mr whelan sir
3) just be a yes man and lick his ass ,jobs yours dont forget mr whelan sir every time31 May 2013 at 10:35 pm #115159Kenny Jackett has gone to Wolves.
That eliminates him but leaves Owen Coyle free.
31 May 2013 at 10:58 pm #115162Uwe Rosler – just you wait and see.
