He did great things during his first spell in Holland and I think the Dutch approach to football would fit in well with what Martinez has developed.
However, he struggled at Wolfburg, at Twente second time round, with England, and a lot of the Boro supporters wanted him out despite getting them into Europe.
I still like the sound of Rene Meulensteen.
30 May 2013 at 4:15 pm #115044Theres a lot of speculation doing the rounds at the moment, DW says he has no idea, but there is interest?. I cant believe DW hasnt got the Manager he wants firmly fixed in his mind and that the process is not underway. At the last home match, Coyle was sat behind us, also there was David Platt, now without a job, Rene Meulensteen now wants to leave United and Steve McClaren is also available. The only one of that lot I wouldnt want is Owen Coyle, I dont rate him and he has done similar trecherous tricks in the past, as Steve Bruce did to us.
Out of our past players I would love back at the club in some role or other is Lee McCulloch, but I dont know how far advanced he is with his coaching badges. So thinking about all of this, a couple of names stand out,McClaren with Meulensteen as coach, that would be my ideal choice, but then I am not holding the purse strings!!!!
30 May 2013 at 4:50 pm #115046Stuart Pearce was mentioned in the Mirror apparently.
Could do a lot worse (Coyle, Kean… )
At least he will put more attention on the importance of defending
30 May 2013 at 4:52 pm #115047I like the thought of Meulensteen because I’m sure a few of the Utd coaches would follow and they’ve not done too bad a job.

It is likely that at least Jones and Bergara will follow Martinez out of the club.
Phelan and Steele as replacements wouldnt be too shabby at all!
I think the important thing due to the amount of players we need to sign between now and the start of the season is to get someone in ASAP.
30 May 2013 at 5:32 pm #115051I think it’s ridiculous that we’ve not even been told who’s applied for the job. Typical of Whelan and the club to let the fans down by causing all this speculation when really all we want to know is who the next manager is going to be! And us fans should be first to know, not Sky, BBC, newspapers etc.
Bloody rubbish Wigan!

Lee McCulloch has his A, B and Pro License.
Wouldn’t surprise me to see him link up with Davie Weir at some point in the near future.

I think he should also tell us how much money he’s offering them. I have a right to know.

I think he might be referring to Bruce the first time round, when he let 4 or 5 players go and then left himself the next day. Even then, I think he was possibly acting with Whelan’s blessing.
The only treacherous thing Bruce did really was give me a crick with his dull brand of football.
Don’t rise to it, Tyldesley – it’s been done deliberately to wind you up ;)
30 May 2013 at 6:51 pm #115057the dutchman steve mclaren is the new bookies favourite at 3/1.. i think owen coyle is more likely..
di matteo for me…16/1 shot.
That’s strange because every betting site I’ve looked at have Meulensteen as favourite.
What’s your source for that?[/quote]heard the same
30 May 2013 at 7:06 pm #115060I”ve heard the same ,wish it was sorted who does everybody else want
