Christ even Yootha would have got us out of this league with this squad and backing from the board.

Now I know your on the wind up

The late great Brian Clough always said that football is a simple game. Would he still say it today?. At the top end of the game the most skillful super fit world class players can make these modern formations work like clockwork and wing backs make the game beautiful to watch. At our level your asking average journeymen players to replicate it. Too many jobs expected to be done by players not skilful enough to do them adequately. I love watching the way we play and the fact we genuinely try to play good football but it just doesn’t get the juices flowing like flying wingers and proper centre forwards always did. It may be the way of the game now but sooner or later normal service will be resumed. I hope.

Donny, grigg has himself stated that he prefers to play as a lone striker as opposed to being in a partnership.

Nonsense. He would be better in a 4-4-2 with a big lump of a centre forward who can win headers as the ball is pumped forward from the keeper and the centre backs.[/quote]

I remember it well super stu, when the likes of bobby campbell (rip) would knock it down for the likes of paul jewell to score. Likewise, when the lazy simon howarth would do the same for you or sir andy liddell. Perhaps your right. Bring it back.

It proves a point that following our win over oldham, only 10 people posted a comment. Lose a game however, & we are now into the 3rd page of why we need to play 442, we have blown our chances, cook not up to it etc, etc..

Are some of our so called fans ACTUALLY waiting for us to lose? I bet they’re sat there waiting by the keyboard foaming & drooling at the mouth ready to post the usual drivel. I bet said people hate it when we score a late winner, or we have played that well & totally dominated the game.

The simple question i ask is, Why so negative?

Technically we didn’t play 4-4-2 when Haworth, Liddell & Barlow were playing for us. It was a front 3 with Liddell given a licence to roam

      Just saying ;)

Best strike force I have seen at Latics.

Now now egg. You are taking controversy to a whole new level. You saying that strike force was better than ellington & roberts? Now there was a partnership.

        Big shout egg.

It is yeah. Obviously Duke and Roberts were class and it shows how blessed we were in that rise to the PL with some of the players we had. Ellington, Liddell and Horsfield weren’t bad and of course Jones and Lancashire in 96/97.

Personally though that front 3 of Haworth, Barlow and Lidds is my favourite. In fact that whole team in 2000 is one of my favourites and as Haworth said himself it’s amazing we didn’t actually go up that year.

Nah, Scotland on his own was a revolution and took us to another level of exciting football.
