Spot on.On paper our squad is drastically under performing and Clarke in Vaughan out is baffling. Ipswich played 65 mins with 10 men and to be happy with the late rescue after what crap preceded it is blind faith at its worst. Cook has a fit squad after all the bleating about injuries and still can’t motivate them in a banker home. Powell will spend the rest of season being cuddled on the bench with a few advertising cameos thrown in. As stated Boltons debts cleared and now a group of tough fixtures for us means in this vein of insipid form we could be sucked right into the mire. However people cover it up Saturdays performance is the latest instalment in the “we can’t get any worse “pantomime .
25 February 2019 at 2:59 pm #176649It’s Cockney Latic Groudhog Day…..
Stop panicking everyone. Five points clear of the drop-zone with a better goal difference.
We’ll be fine.
*closes Cockney Latic tab again until after the next defeat*
25 February 2019 at 4:25 pm #176650If you expect us to be in top half of this league with our budget and crowds I would fuck it off and watch another side as you’re only gonna be disappointed. We are miles behind the majority in terms of infrastructure and size and avoiding relegation will be a decent achievement in a league we have struggled to get to grips with the last two seasons we have been in it.
Well Preston seem to be doing alright and they ain’t a bigger club than us these days. Their squad on paper is no better than ours and they have had their fair share of injuries as well.[/quote]
Preston have 20 players on or under the age of 26 in their squad with only 3 players over the age of 30 and just the 1 player 34+ so Preston are clearly aiming for a more young youthful energetic get up and down the park type of squad which showed against us, totally outran.
Wigan have only 10 players in their squad on or under the age of 26 with 8 players of those players over the age of 30 and of those 8 ?, 3 are 34+. Wigan are looking at a more experienced mature type squad, a player that’s been here before. The problem is with that is fitness and have the legs to compete for 90 minutes in the Championship. When you hit a certain age in a long career in football you cannot maintain those high levels so this is were the younger players step up to the plate.
With age, injuries and fatigue become much more common and what was then just a small short term injury suddenly becomes long term and bit by bit the good old body starts to say enough’s enough go easy will ya !.
If the IEC get their wishes then at some point the player age/youth balance has to severely addressed with some of the younger players in our youth systems given a chance to try and evenly balance the player age equation.
Some say “Well what has age got to do with it ?” it has alot to do with it and when the gas tanks empty at 30 plus it’s empty, that’s when the younger fitter and more ambitious younger lads step up to the plate.
25 February 2019 at 4:29 pm #176651Preston have … Different Manager, different tactics, different players – we can not compare our club to anyone else’s because of these very reasons. We are where we are because of a combination of all those.
25 February 2019 at 4:34 pm #176653No sh1t Sherlock, and it worked good enough to get them on a run and out the mire. lets hope they don’t do what they did to us away and they have an off day on the 22nd April because any kind of performance from us similar to that or Saturdays dross might just make for a long afternoon
When we played Preston , Preston 24th, were bottom, we were 9th,
Preston are now 10th on 47 points we are 19th 35 pointsSo, who’s plans working ?.
Your honor I rest my case as the defence will clearly need to remove his oversized rose tinted glasses for it to continue25 February 2019 at 6:09 pm #176654Isn’t this a Preston team that finished 7th in the league last year, two points out of the play offs? They have finished well above us the previous two years in 11th in the championship so will have greater levels of income and are well established where as we have only just come up into this league. A league we have previously struggled to stay up in.
How is James Vaughan being replaced a surprise? At this level he has scored around one every ten games over the last few years and is currently warming the bench at Portsmouth. Like him or not Leon Clarke scored twice as many last season as Vaughan has in his entire career at this level. He’s no world beater but I’m not convinced he’s any worse. We’ve hardly lost a game with him in our team so far!
25 February 2019 at 8:36 pm #176657“We’ve hardly lost a game with him “…Oh come on.He’s hardly touched the ball in the last 180 mins, and that’s against 2 of the bottom 4 .No better than Vaughan so why get him.??
25 February 2019 at 10:48 pm #176659That’s a fact. When Leon Clarke has started we haven’t lost a game. In his four games he has set up goals, scored goals, had defenders sent off with his movement and got in some great goal scoring opportunities on Saturday and missed. The other facts are he has scored loads more than Vaughan in his career and many more at this level. How’s that not better?

From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!26 February 2019 at 12:21 pm #176671Leon Clarke, Wigan’s saviour! Who’d a thought it eh!
26 February 2019 at 12:51 pm #176672If we stay up will the Cook out brigade give him any credit?
26 February 2019 at 2:09 pm #176673If we stay up will the Cook out brigade give him any credit? If we ‘just’ manage to stay up then I don’t think Cook will be part of next season’s plans, a sort of “That was a little too close for comfort” situation that may need reevaluating! ;)
26 February 2019 at 2:44 pm #176675correct me if I’m wrong but if the cook out mob get there wish would we not have to pay him some compensation as he just signed a new deal in the summer?
26 February 2019 at 5:23 pm #176676I’d give Cook 6/10 for the season so far.
Unless we show unexpected form against the top teams, against our direct rivals, and improve our away form. I could well see the others closing in. Right now it’s 50/50 whether we stay up.
Since key players returned from injuriy I’ve yet to see any improvement in performances.

He’ll have to play them from the off first instead of warming their tuche’s on the bench, puzzled me how deep Powell was told to play at first then in the latter stages moved forward and we got the goal is he still bloody injured and Massey must start with him.
