Macmanaman was idiotic….he’ll spend more time suspended than playing if he doesn’t channel his aggression. As for the game less said the better, we were poor even before the sending off.Great opportunity to get back on track next week.

Just read Coyle’s report about the tackle and the referee, 100% correct ref needs reporting but Coyle it was a poor poor performance, now get it out of the system we know its us against the rest bring it on .

Firstly hats of to all the Wigan fans who travelled down to Bournemouth today, …..

        Thank you.

However – it wasn’t at all a good performance but it was down to individual players not playing well. Holt struggled to make an impression, Maloney wasn’t on top form, Beausejour was rather off the pace. We gave away a stupid goal and didn’t really create many (any?) real chances.

Great tactics by Carson at the penalty though. Without seeing the sending off again on the Football League Show I can only report on what I saw at the time and I didn’t think it was a red-card foul (if in fact a foul) and I think their players reactions (and maybe his reputation) got him sent off.

It was a long way back, but I’m not in despair. In some ways it was a good wake up call. We’re going to need to battle harder. We may just have underestimated Bournemouth, and it’ll now be interesting to see how we bounce back.

This division particularly is a marathon and we haven’t left the stadium at the start yet.

Is this the same wicked organisation that gave Wigan such a favourable draw leading up to the FA Cup Final and then let them take the trophy home too?

But you’re probably right; they won’t ever make it so simple again.

We always play terrible after international break don’t we? I’ll reserve criticism till I’ve watched us play a few home games. You get odd results early on in the season. Worry for me is this knock it long to Holt tactic. Be don’t seem to win many long balls and it isolates our midfield as many have pointed out.

I was surprised and disappointed by the lack of rotation in the starting lineup. I would have loved to see Dicko, Espinoza, Gomez etc in the lineup because of the friendlies. We’ve got the squad to do it, so I don’t see why not play McMAnaman from the start and take him off at half time if he’s not fit to play a full game yet.

Even though there are a lot of haters, Gomez’s creativity has been missing and he’d be far more effective against weaker defences and midfields. Off the top of my head, I think he scored about 15 in the championship with Swansea – and despite everything, he chipped in with some class and important goals in the Prem too

I am not sure what planet some of you live on but on planet earth that was never a red card.

Anyone unsure of that can check the replay on the football league show on bbc iplayer clearly showing Mcmanman winning the ball with next to no contact on the player whatsoever.

I thought the reaction of the players and Bournemouth bench was a disgrace.

Firstly I think you have to say while Bournemouth did what they set out to do we should of made it a lot harder for them.

Brilliant penalty save by Carson but I lost count of the amount of times his goal kicks ended up with a Bournemouth player.

He can kick them out all day long but if its not finding anyone in blue and coming back at us then what is the point? We should play it out from the back and move it into the middle of the park where we have strength in numbers.

Grant Holt is getting a lot of balls in the air but he is a far cry from Heskey in terms of being a target man in that situation although to be fair to him he looked out there on his own half the time.

I would love to see the likes of Gomez playing just behind him.

The less said about Perch’s back pass the better.

I think Maloney is wasted on the right and has always looked best for us either on the left of a front three or with a free role to float about around the box.

All in all there was very little creativity yesterday but it is very early doors and no need to push the panic button.

                  #119458

And to add to that I cant think why anyone other than Maloney should take our corners.

Unfortunately on Planet FA/Referee if they deem it dangerous then it is a red. :(

Having seen it a few times now I do think in hindsight it was harsh, but he was daft for diving in like that.

Hopefully that’s a harsh lesson learned and he won’t do it again.

Surely we had this debate last season! Times have changed – the question isn’t whether he got the ball cleanly or not.

The question now is – Did the referee think that he put the other player at risk of injury? In this case, his foot was in mid air and the referee thought that he did. And there are other referees who would reach the same conclusion.

He got away with a tackle at Barnsley and, if he doesn’t learn from this incident, he is going to land in hot water. Martinez knew that he was a temperamental player, and handled him with kid gloves. Coyle will have to learn how to get the best out of him.

                  #119464

Not quite sure about his foot being in mid air as the ball was on the ground which he cleanly took.

No danger to the player whatsoever.

Are we now saying all sliding tackles must be made by a player sliding along the floor through some sort of magical mechanics?

The game may have changed but this highlights it is not for the better when a player cant make a dedicated challenge, win a ball cleanly without people talking about it as if he could of decapitated him or something.

                  Dangerous play my arse.

The replay from the linesman’s view who incidentally didn’t call the foul is the clearest and available on iplayer

                  #119466

The ball is on the ground – but his foot is clearly in the air.

The players know how referees interpret the rule.

And the rule doesn’t handicap Wigan – it works both ways.
