What should he have done differently ? slithered across the ground to make the tackle? Surely every tackle starts somewhere off the ground?
It certainly wasn’t a high tackle! it would have been lucky to hit him in the bottom of his shin! it was a sufficient move to take the player from his starting position to one where he can cleanly take the ball without causing any danger to said play whatsoever!
What more can you ask than that?
That same tackle is made by full backs up and down the country every week!
How anyone can watch the replay back and say it was an automatic red is simply laughable!
We will see what the FA think of it when we appeal it.
I am confident it will be rescinded off what I have seen but if I had a penny for every time I have said that I could buy a packet of crisp so we will see.
19 August 2013 at 12:20 am #119470You could get paranoid about the FA’s view of the town though.
Wigan Robin Park were playing an FA Cup tie yesterday at Emley in Yorkshire and were 2-1 up at 90 minutes.
Emley equalised in the 96th minute, and won with a penalty in the 99th.
19 August 2013 at 12:21 am #119471I don’t know what footage you have been watching Salford but there was no slithering across the ground. He jumped in with BOTH feet off the ground, which in today’s money is deemed reckless and deserving of a red card, regardless of whether he played the ball or not.
I will be amazed if the club appeals that. There is no way that will be rescinded.
19 August 2013 at 12:45 am #119476just watched the tackle on youtube, looked ok to me, not even a booking.
19 August 2013 at 12:57 am #119477Here you go.
The 3rd view is the best. Yes he gets the ball but his foot is off the floor and his other leg takes out the player.
Perhaps if last season hadn’t happened he may have got away with a yellow.
19 August 2013 at 1:36 am #119479I`m sorry but I wonder if some of you support Wigan Athletic we should all have the same opinion as its OUR player, yes both feet r off the ground and laws of gravity say once off the ground you carnt turn round in mid air etc etc etc but common sense to me says NO WAY WAS THAT MALICIOUS he clearly got the ball because of the Newcastle tackle he`s now a marked man Wigan will appeal they will fail (cause of Newcastle tackle) as I said earlier the games gone soft .I carn`t believe some of you being Wigan fans see it different
19 August 2013 at 1:44 am #119480I`m sorry but I wonder if some of you support Wigan Athletic we should all have the same opinion as its OUR playerEr… No. One should make decisions in life based on what they believe is right or wrong, whilst surveying the evidence at hand. Not blindly because they have a particular bias for one party.
19 August 2013 at 1:54 am #119482He must know how careful he has to be, he must know he’s going to be a target for wannabe refs
19 August 2013 at 2:00 am #119483Look originally it was about the terrible refereeing this subject, but its not about blind faith in your team, that tackle was hard but fair the ref should be dropped down to the conference (and that’s to good for him), for all his bad decisions during the game, once again the games gone soft and common sense should prevail when the FA look back on that tackle.

19 August 2013 at 2:10 am #119485use your common sense on that one, he got the ball, as I said the games gone soft you guys r driving me to rum and coke
19 August 2013 at 2:31 am #119486Jumping at an opponent is a foul!
If a player jumps at an opponent, the referee must consider how it was done. Whether the player gets the ball is not a consideration. If it was done;
carelessly, then a free kick shall be awarded and no further sanction is required
recklessly, then the player shall be cautioned
with excessive force, then the player shall be sent off.The referee had to choose between careless, reckless and with excessive force. Yesterday, he chose with excessive force. I don’t see any grounds for appeal.
19 August 2013 at 2:35 am #119487Whether the game has “gone soft” or not is not the issue. Them’s the rules.
I agree we’ve travelled a long way from Nat Lofthouse or Bobby Smith shoulder charging goalkeepers into the back of the net – but that’s how it is now.
19 August 2013 at 2:38 am #119488Grounds for appeal then, but how about all the other decisions he made,i lost count, shocking refereeing.
19 August 2013 at 2:43 am #119490We lost because most of our players had an off day, and Perch for some reason decided to back pass stupidly. The sending off – whether correct or incorrect – didn’t actually make a difference, and had Carson not made a brilliant penalty save they would have been well out of sight (correct call by the referee for the penalty too).
Get over it and look forward to Tuesday.
