Quality were desperate for, gone and succeeding elsewhere. We’ve been clueless at this club for some time now when it comes to giving the right players a chance.
It’s a case of where would we be now if everyone listened to me
I do reckon you would have signed a defender when we needed them.such as a Certain John Stones,A bargin for 3 mil. When Everton may draw very good money for him.If only we had payed the asking price of Barnsley. ;)
Martinez knew where he himself would be come the end of that season and so with hindsight it is no surprise that Stones swerved coming to Wigan and went to Everton! He didn’t play at all until the following August when Martinez was manager, you do the math! :)
Or maybe Stones saw Everton as a bigger club, offering higher wages, and with less chance of being relegated….17 August 2015 at 2:43 pm #144104And folk on here like to quote our previous managers as good back up for not giving the likes of these 2 a good chance in the team.

Just seems a little odd to me, especially with the fact that Everton didn’t use him until RM got there, bar 3 appearances on the bench that didn’t result in him making his debut! I believe Martinez was something to do with Stones going to Everton!

No offence but none of us know whether Everton had any prior interest in Stones prior to the 31st January. Unless you know the inner workings of Everton’s scouting system intimately, its just (if not more so) likely that he’d been on the radar of numerous “bigger clubs” than Latics & when Latics had their bid accepted it forced the hand of Everton who may have been looking at making a move for him over the summer (or later)
It seems highly unlikely to me that Bobby went to the trouble of persuading Whelan/Jackson to part with upwards of £3mill for a lower league player without the intention of actually signing him but just so that he could speak with him & tell him to sign for Everton coz that’s where he’d be come the start of the next season anyway.
If Bobby knew he was going to Everton & wanted Everton to sign him as opposed to Latics, then the whole involvement of Latics was a completely unnecessary smokescreen17 August 2015 at 3:37 pm #144114And folk on here like to quote our previous managers as good back up for not giving the likes of these 2 a good chance in the team.

23 August 2015 at 10:00 pm #144364Tavs nets the winner for Rangers against Hibs today!Which just goes to show how shyte that Scottish Championship football is. Fraser Fyfie was playing for Hibs, Kenny miller for Rangers, nuff said. :P

Almost forgetting we were beaten 2-0 yesterday by Gillingham in Division One!
Tavernier and Waghorn are too good for Division One and will be playing in the top division in Scotland in front of 50000 next season. Good move for them both.23 August 2015 at 10:54 pm #144370Remember lads these two were not let go for football reasons. They would have fit comfortably into a side hunting 100pts in League 1 but their pay was for a side striving to get promoted from the Championship. Two things don’t mix in the austerity world of Latics.

24 August 2015 at 3:39 am #144377Some may say they were not good enough. I would say I haven’t got a clue Fil. Maybe if we had we may not have been relegated but who are we we’re just supporters.

Good move for them both.Who has been proven wrong and about what?, grow up man! if you think the standard of football in the Scottish championship is any higher than league one in England you’re a bigger numpty than I thought.
Did you think we wouldn’t, or shouldn’t, get beat in league One? This will be a hard league make no mistake, there will be no gimmies. I would have taken a point yesterday before KO.
Losing 2-0 to Gillingham is nothing to be shamed of, that’s unless your a JCL. There is also nothing to make me feel that having “Tavs and Waggs” in the team would have changed the result yesterday. Both those players flattered to deceive during their stay with us, not impressing the people who managed them day in day out enough for them to hold down a regular spot in a poor performing Championship team.Just remember, Rangers where favs to go into the Scots Premiership last season and failed, does that sound familiar to you?

What a journey!24 August 2015 at 1:14 pm #144380The brain surgeons are out again!
How does this make them too good for Division one? You only need to look at the turnover of clubs in the Scottish Championship to see that it’s a far poorer standard than that of English League One. Hardly impressive that a couple of ex rejects are banging a few in!
It’s not even a full time professional league which is further emphasised by the fact that the attendances of the other clubs that played on Saturday averaged 1200 fans. Fyvie struggled to get in our development side ffs.
