Thought you were out of this thread?

Love how people just drag stats off Wikipedia and don’t go into the real detail!

The other day I was chastised on here about Harry Kane’s loan spells before he made it at Spurs, well James Tavernier is 23 and his last 2 loan spells have been hugely successful, in seeing him promoted both times from this division. He made 30 appearances for Rotherham and scored 5 goals, a far better return than say Fortune last season despite being a defender. At Bristol City he started 9 games from the 12 appearances quoted and scored 3 goals. He has so far scored 2 goal in 3 games at a massive club called Rangers no matter how many fans he played in front of FFS!

In my opinion given regular football the lad is proving himself to be a talent despite the ridicule by the football mensa brains on here. Don’t forget he played for us at a time when that daft German was chopping and changing like nobody’s business and masterminding our downfall, don’t forget this fella was sacked on the basis he’d lost the plot. He didn’t sign for Rotherham as they couldn’t compete with what we were offering, I don’t know why Bristol City didn’t pursue him, I know their fans were very keen but I’m sure he’d rather be at Rangers and I can’t blame him for wanting to be away from us & this division. I’d imagine he just wants to play football and get some success.

OK now I’ve slapped you about a bit with Tavernier and the actual facts, Waghorn.

40 appearances for WAFC, 21 starts, 8 goals. Would have led the line far better than Fortune, would have scored more goals than Fortune, never given the chance. One more clueless decision by the management. The Millwall sending off was daft but pure frustration. We were already down after the failings of the management, to say he sealed our doomed is clutching at straws, in your faltering argument. If you actually look at his goals per minutes played (career) it’s at 1 goal every 268 minutes or a 1 in 3 games ratio.

I also know how old Kenny Miller is and that paragraph you spout about him shows you up as Mr Irrelevant. WTF have Pele and Maradonna got to do with Kenny Miller playing for Rangers at 36 when he can still cut it.
Saying that you were probably arguing with someone about Kevin Phillips comparing him to a 95yr old Eusabio when he was still banging them in at 40!

Delort is doing well, I’ll leave it at that, the only reason I’m still here about Tavernier and Waghorn is to answer the point of view that both are shite just because they didn’t look very good to some, when the whole team was dirt due to terrible tactics and mis-management.

To slate a division or Kenny Miller or Fraser Fyvie or Pele or Maradonna just because 2 lads we let go are doing well is just childish.

Up the Gers!

Slapped me about a bit over Tavernier?? ? I suppose all your stats where straight out of your head.
Lets discuss his appearances for Bristol. He was bench warming as usual and got a lucky break when the player keeping him out of the team was injured. So your reference to a successful spell should read, not deemed good enough by the league 1 team to start games, but was fortunate to be the only fit right back at the club so managed to get a few games. Check Wikipedia I doubt there is any mention of this.

I’ll answer your question why didn’t Bristol sign him, because he just wasn’t good enough.

You can’t knock him for scoring goals, but it needs elaborating on, as most of them where probably free kicks. Agreed, Fortune had a hopeless return for Latics, but might have got a few more if given free kick duties around the edge of the box.

You say “In my opinion given regular football the lad is proving himself”… is he really after just 3 or 4 games??
Just remember is average games per season over the past 6 seasons, what makes you think it will change after just a few games?.
Good luck to the lad I to hope he does well for Rangers, but for you to give the ner, ner, nener, ner just cos he and Waggs have had a decent start for Rangers is ridiculous.
I very much doubt, anyone who has managed him at Wigan will be thinking “If only I’d played him”

Now that I’ve took your slap without blinking and kicked you in the bollucks over Tavernier, lets move on to Waggs.

Your bold statements about Waghorn would have done this and would have done that are based on exactly what? an inkling?, a feeling in your water?, a secret crush on him?
I actually liked the player, always wanted him to come into the team and secure his place, but he just didn’t make things happen.

Led the line better than Fortune? Don’t think so, MAF was good at holding the ball up,running the channels and linking up, he was just absolute garbage in front of goal. The system being deployed by the various managers was one lone striker, like it or lump it.

I notice the jury is still out on Waghorn at Rangers, have a browse round their forums. I also wish him well there, but have not lost any sleep over the fact he’s gone.

I’m still of the opinion that the class of football both Waggs and Tavs are currently playing at is no better than league one. Miller is passed it and Fyvie has never had it, it was you who started the childish remarks off, with that ludicrous statement about 35 year old Kenny Miller. You set yourself right up for the Pele / Maradona statement,

Finally when are people going to understand that attendances don’t bring good teams or good players. Yes rangers play in front of a massive crowd -EVERY TWO WEEKS, the other weeks they will be no bigger than League One in England. So your point is what?
So You’re ignoring the Rotherham games and his previous regular football?making things up about Bristol City not taking him. The evidence is there I’m hardly quoting only 4 Rangers games am I? As for attendances I wasn’t the one talking about them in the first place was I?
You are all there aren’t you?
OK we’ll talk Rotherham, another team who didn’t fancy him long term or thought he was worth spending any bucks on.
He played 27 games for Rotherham, almost twice the number of games he played for any other club, the next highest being 16, still not good reading Terence.

Did or did you not mention that these players would be playing in front of 40,000 fans? Sorry I must have dreamt it.

If you are not just quoting the Rangers games [see original post / topic] what are you weeing in your pants over these two for?
I’m beginning to think your 9 cans short of an 8-pack.

I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again, both Rangers and Hibs would beat us and most of the others in League One, they are above average sides for the division they are currently plying their trade in! As for clubs not wanting Tavs, I have been wondering of late why MK Dons didn’t want to buy their leading goalscorer ( Grigg ) from last season? Funny old game ain’t it!

And we would win the Scottish Championship. Based on opinion and bugger all else. Reason MK Dons didn’t sign Grigg is that they couldn’t afford him. They placed several rejected bids but couldn’t come close to ours.

You can say it a million times and I still wouldn’t be convinced. There is nothing to base your argument on whatsoever.
At least I’ve pointed out that the top team in the Scottish Championship contains a 35 year old has been up front and two players who have come from a team that got relegated to league one last season, yet both couldn’t break into the side on a regular basis.

Ask yourself this, would Tavs and Waggs displace James and Grigg? My answer would be categorically noooo!!

Take a look at the rest of the teams in that league, Queen of the South, Morton, Alloa etc etc. I would probably pick most of the league 2 teams to beat them.

Queen of the South who are currently level on points with Rangers and above Hibs had a crowd of just over 1,000 for their cup game with Morton and 1,700 on for their league game with Alloa the other week. I’m actually moving more to it being more conference standard as I type. How the hell can they afford to buy players unless its for a 5 figure sum or less, yet rangers couldn’t get out of that league last season.

Do a bit of research fil and stop listening to people who think they know more about players than the qualified staff who work with them day in and day out.

Nah. The million pound fee and the contract handed to Grigg would have covered Waghorn no problem had we really wanted to keep him. Facts are we didn’t.

I thought I’d answered this one, in that Rotherham couldn’t compete with us on the money front, they aren’t a wealthy club like us. You making things up again just makes you look a bit thick. He played 30 times for Rotherham and scored 5 goals as a defender and won player of the year, does that not make good reading in your mind then?
Did or did you not mention that these players would be playing in front of 40,000 fans? Sorry I must have dreamt it.
You didn’t dream it you’re just making things up again, my exact comments were these, read it, process it, understand it, if you are capable “Tavernier and Waghorn are too good for Division One and will be playing in the top division in Scotland in front of 50000 next season. Good move for them both.”

If you are not just quoting the Rangers games [see original post / topic] what are you weeing in your pants over these two for?

What I am doing is responding to your idiotic comments, if you can’t see that I am not just quoting a handful of games at Rangers there’s no hope for you. I’m simply backing up the fact that I think both players deserve more credit than you were giving them

I wasn’t going to respond again but I’ve just read back through your post, I whizzed through it this morning, and it needed ripping apart.

Final take for me on the subject.

And McManaman and McClean are getting playing time at West Brom too.

They may not be one of the better Premier League teams, but they are still above Championship – and League One – level.

The “coo shed” on the east side of the ground was replaced by an all seater stand in 1995 and was named the East Stand. A challenge game was held in April 1995 to commemorate the opening of the new stand and Queens’ 75th anniversary against Rangers.

Rangers, fuelled by the guile of Nathan Oduwa and the lively front play of Waghorn, dealt Livingston a decisive blow five minutes from half-time. Oduwa was involved in the build-up, Waghorn holding up the ball and rejecting all passing options to work his way free and precisely angle a low shot beyond Jamieson.
