If a salesman is given a target of 100 sales in a year and after 60% of the year has made 60 sales will he get sacked? No because despite not hitting target yet he is in line to do so.
Granted if he had only made 10 sales after 60% they probably would.

It seems quite clear that the new owners are happy to finish 4th bottom – something the previous owners failed to manage after winning League One. As I’ve said before, unless you have an owner who is throwing money around like confetti, then the first aim of a promoted club is survival the following season. The fact that its 26 January, Cook is still in post and there hasn’t been a lot of signings suggests that the owners feel the same as I do.
As it stands, even after a run of fixtures against hardened Championship sides, Latics are still 6 points clear of Reading. No side below Latics has picked up more than 4 points in their last 5 games, so the gap remains the same as it was at the start of the month. After Bolton on Tuesday, Reading now face a run of fixtures against Villa, Sheff Wed, Blackburn and Sheff Utd before facing Rotherham on 23 Feb. At the same time, Latics have some games where they will have a much better chance of picking up points.
I expect the gap between Latics and the bottom three to be more than 6 points come 5pm on 23 February.
