Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega is courting attention as Stoke are preparing to offer £7m and forward James Beattie to land the Colombian.
Full story: SunNow, assuming that Rodallega is going to go, £7m plus the kind of rough and tumble striker with a proven goal-scoring record that some have been crying out for doesn’t seem like a bad deal.
It wouldn’t have me reaching for the tissues but worse things could happen – as I say, IF Rodallega is definitely looking to leave,

Personally I don’t want a Stoke reserve player signing for Latics. That said, regardless of who he plays for currently, I don’t rate him either

I am assuming that a) there is no other interest him, either at £15m or not and b) the lad is determined to go.
Either may or may not be true. I hope he stays. I don’t like Beattie myself, but at least he is tried and tested.

I have been one of your few allies on here because, more often than not I think you talk a lot of sense. However, when it “appears to be” your rag week you don’t half test everybody’s patience.

Thee and me will never agree, Griff. Chalk and cheese, Clough and Taylor, etc, etc. No need for the childish dig about the PM, either. Actually, it was only last week I was thinking of suggesting we meet for a pint, before the Blackpool game. But no, I’ll not bother now.
Sorry but I test everybody’s patience, do I? Don’t make me laugh. You come on here and you talk down to people ALL THE TIME. No Griff, you do. It’s like YOU are the authority on all things Latics. Never mind about ME testing everybody’s patience, THE CLUB is testing my friggin patience. For the 25th consecutive season, I have got a season ticket. And you know what? I’m beginning to wish I hadn’t bothered.
I wouldn’t mind as much if we were selling, or looking at selling players to bigger clubs, and by ‘bigger’ I mean, not from the bottom echelon of the Premeirship. Our relegation-battle rivals.
And the prices we are selling our players for, it’s ridiculous. Now, is there really something going on behind the scenes? Has the accountant said to Whelan “Er…..we are in deep financial sh*t….you need to get rid of players”? Because I am thinking that there must be some explanation. Bloody TELL US, if there is a major problem. Then perhaps we can all understand it and say “fair enough”. But when you are being told that one of your key players, and captain to boot, is being ‘sold off’ for the paltry sum of £750,000 (despite a reliable source telling me it was 3.5 million-still low anyway) it does kind of rile you. Well, it does me. Today it’s Rodallega, a player being priced at 15 million a few weeks ago. Today he’s being linked with a move to Stoke, one of our realistic rivals, for 7 million, plus a has-been striker who is lazier than a Mexican village. At siesta time. If Martinez goes along with that, then I will no longer have any faith in him. (Though in all honesty, it’ll probably be down to Whelan)At the end of the day, the way we are doing business is no different to the Kenyon days. It’s just that it’s being done on a higher scale, with a bigger profile. Letting our best players go for low fees.
I think the club are conning everybody, including themselves. They aren’t playing IN the big league. They are playing AT it.In all honesty, and I AM being honest, I don’t know if I can face another season of a load of heavy defeats and embarrasing capitualtions (giving up with a whimper, for all the kids out there). It’s no good beating a couple of the top clubs……and then going and getting hammered by a bottom four club the following week. (4-0 at Pompey, Bolton) We got lucky last season, with the very poor sides at the bottom. We won’t be so lucky, this season.
I guarantee I will get slaughtered for saying what I’ve said, because people don’t like facing the truth.
