10 September 2011 at 5:30 am in reply to: anyone got or know anyone with an 8 seater or bigger #71195Nope. Wigan to London (depending on stops) can be 1 hour 58. Quicker if you drink all the way.
Would love to see the site that they advertise that journey on Mr Griff…..It’s quite close actually – I’ve seen them boast 2 hours 2 minutes (never sub 2 hours)…….
…..and I would defy ‘any’ rail company to get a passenger from Wigan to London in ‘under’ 140 minutes. Put bluntly…..BR (oh how we hanker after the ol’ days eh?) are just “not getting there”. (I know BR left etc etc blah blah) point is – Mr Nuneaton is quite correct…..
….those who have used the Tey Jey Vey (TGV) in France will understand that ‘one can set their watches by their timetable’ – unlike our system where ‘one cannot set a f0Okin calendar’ by our train timetable.
The Mayans had a better concept of time and order than we do….. roll on 2012
;)
MickyC – Swinton Lions are no more a Manchester club the the Salford City Reds are. The town of Swinton falls under Salford city council & from the Tyldesley side of Manchester you have to drive through it to get to Salford. The last time I heard they were playing at Salford City FC’s ground tooThank you………. ;)
who’s ever heard of a white bloke playing Man Friday anyway?Oh I don’t know…..
Laurence Olivier didn’t do a bad job of Othello
(and what about all them Black and White Minstrels? :o )
Well I’m going to have a punt at 1-1 with them being a little sloppy (through arrogance) and us snatching a surprise leveler on the break.
:)
R.I.P.Cardiff fan killed at wembley toneet!
RIP….my respects to the man and his family
Initial news from Sky…..
“Six men, all believed to be Welsh fans, have been arrested in relation to the incident.”
 (I have my own opinion on this)

newcastle – The Newcastle Rugby League is a rugby league competition in Newcastle, Australia. It is one of the oldest rugby league competitions in Australia, founded in 1910. (Be specific please)
bristol – Bristol Rugby (or Bristol Football Club as it was formerly known) was formed in 1888 and over the years some of the greatest names in the game have played for the Club from Len Corbett, Sam Tucker, Jack Gregory, John Pullin and Alan Morley through to Jason Little and Agustin Pichot in recent years. (No history there then)
leicester – Leicester Storm RLFC
norwich – Norwich City Saxons
nottingham – Nottingham Outlaws are a rugby league club from the city of Nottingham, England. They were founded in 1999 and their first team plays in the National Division. They have a junior section and in 2006 launched an academy team, which plays in the Midlands Rugby League. They play their home matches at The Bay. They are also known as the green and whites. (No history…..but in context neither do we!)cardiff – The first attempt to bring rugby league to the capital was in 1949 when a Welsh League was formed. Cardiff were joined by teams from Amman Valley, Llanelli, Aberavon, Bridgend, Ystradgynlais, Neath and Pontarddulais.
wolverhampton – Wolverhampton Wizards

manchester (salford not there) – Swinton Lions (founded in 1866 – JCL’s)
plymouth – Plymouth Titans
oxford – Oxford Cavaliers were founded by Lionel Hurst in 1995. The club’s name and colours refer to Oxford’s English civil war heritage. The club crest is the red and blue royal standard that was flown when King Charles I held his court in Christchurch College. (What a completely rubbish story and so jingoistic)
brighton – Sussex Merlins
in fact all of the entire south coast of england – (errrrm ……………see Plymouth and Brighton.

Having a fancy CAPITAL name with fancy outrageous opinions, I suppose, could get you a name on here. However, without doing your research (and we all understand that you played your ‘joker’ – “teams that people have heard of”) – you stand to make yourself look like a right prat….if that was your intention then the phrase you are awaiting is ‘Job Done’.
[insert: //shakeshead@youwanker: :getafeckinlifenodnod: :wemightlikefootballbutarenotfoolsyouidiot: //]
This is not about ‘thugby’ (as you and many others call it)……….(me I can’t be @rsed…I’m too long in the tooth).
……it’s about coming on this board spouting uncolaborated sh it. Have an opinion by all means but leave the facts to those who know what they are talking about (if, that is, you are not prepared to do your homework :o /research).
Oh!…keep up the input. ;)
Your really debating this after 3 games?! :naughty:Actually, not a bad time to commence the ‘debate’.
The ‘cr@ppy’ window has closed, and everyone has had to declare their squads……… Competition for places in teams that had already looked settled have/have not upset the Equilibrium?……….Will Owen Hargreaves get more than three games and upset their position? (Insert name here…… and the same concept for smaller teams)………Is youth and pace with a 4-5-1 formation going to win or will it be traditional 4-4-2 (hey! what about 4-3-3, diamonds, pack the midfield etc?)
Yes……these and many questions (this early in the season) make for a better footballing, debating, statisticing (made that one up) experience.
If some ‘dcikhaed’ on Match of the Day can say “Oh what a goal…….a contender for Goal of the Season”……………(because there will only be eight more goals scored) – on the second game of the season then anyone can talk about/debate what they want.
A little like the Fantasy Football concept…. ;)
how did the presentation go micky – well i hopewas it as imaginative as the as the rubbish you post on here ;)
if it was no doubt you entertained your audience today if nothing else,i was glad to keep you company but even a night owl like me who had got up again because i couldnt sleep finally gave up to the call of my bed again.
“was it as imaginative as the as the rubbish you post on here ;) “………Ouch! :D
Thanks for asking; it well enough for the ‘after business soiree’ to last way into the wee hours………again.
I always adhere to the 6 ‘P’ principle –
Proper Planning Prevents Pish Poor Performance.
Fair decent squad too – looking forward to seeing the news guys get a run out………(awaits cricket puns). ;)
if he was that desperate to get to london perhaps there was a reason why he still lived in lymm for 12 months after his move to fulham and travelled as much as he could just to come fishing up here – he still goes to stay in warrington with a mate he met while living here just to go fishing.Indeed…..and as one myself who has moved around a lot (sometimes for the cause) I can understand the need to make provision for those around you before a move (there are lots of considerations – have you not a family LMB?) – make no mistake he may have stayed (according to you) in the local, however, his loyalty (and bank balance) lay else where.
take my word jimmy is daft as a brush -but hes sound, perhaps not as “gullible” as me but still sound.but why believe bullard when two of the most honest fellows in football jewell :o and whelan :o :o say otherwise.
Look LMB….I’m not having a go at you, however, I see your loyalty to him (as a fellow angler) is a little clouded. He is not as ‘daft as a brush’ as you make him out to be, and on a better day maybe worth a story and a pint in a local somewhere – but, he went for the cash……
…..end of.
Further, I think that was a little unfair, your comments about Paul Jewell and Mr Whelan………
FFS you only have to look at ‘brown envelope taking cockneys’, (Swede’s for that matter), Spanish Scousers, French Londoners and Jock Mancunians et al before you cast that first stone.
Our position – in this top flight, and for so long, is because of (not inspite of) good management (fiscal and technical) and that, Sir, is the truth.
PS..thank you for you company tonight….. you have been a welcome distraction from this ….errrrrm!……. ‘Plan’ I needed to complete for presentation later on.
cheers fella……. ;)
jimmy bullard sat in the star inn at statham -lymm nr warrington and told a group of us the exact story and you are wrong anything later i know nothing about .dont blame him for what happenen at hull – they paid too much money for him, and gave him the contract/wages they did when he got injured do you expect him to say “hey its all right you dont need to pay me” —-
lets get real here
For one who, at times, can display flowing prose I have to inform you that they have taken the word ‘gullible’ from the Oxford/English dictionary.
jimmy bullard sat in the star inn at statham -lymm nr warrington and told a group of us the exact story and you are wrongGive me strength…………
What exactly did you expect him to say to ‘wet eyed, dyed-in-the-wool, life-long, GULLIBLE, Latics supporters.
“Hey! F£ck you lot I’m off for more cash”…………
Yeah!…Let’s get real here, mate. ;)
So…….I’m wrong (am I?)……… and anything later you knew nothing about?
sorry you have got mixed up with what i typed –bullard was not a take it all type – he didnt want to leave – he just wanted the increase in pay that had been promised to him when he signed a new contract on the friday before our opening game v chelsea – the same contract ellington turned down and roberts was given(though roberts was and improved deal) – the contract gave them a massive pay rise if we managed to stay up, it was latics that circulated his availability and chose to force him out.
I beg to differ sir,
Bullard became a glory hunting, money shaking mercenary……….. however, he was known to be free with his love of the ‘cash’ – one season with us in the prem then the ’till’ rang in his eyes (admitedly he had received many plaudits….his head had been turned…….financially).
Now Paul Jewell had said…
“Life goes on. No-one’s bigger than any club and obviously I didn’t want to lose Jimmy but it was his decision to leave and now he’s gone.”
To which Bullard said that Fulham had made him an amazing offer that was quite simply too good to refuse……..
……..in a TV article – a few years later, involving his dad and friends – Jimmy was quite open about his desire to be closer (at that time) to his family and to have the extra ‘kerching’ that the transfer brought………………again the emphasis was on ‘how much he was earning/worth’.
It is further reported that he spent 2 and a half years at Hull, made 24 appearances and earned (reportedly) fiftyfuckingrandaweek.
I know this “gets on peoples goat”…….however,
2 Samuel 1:27
Sorry….I missed the ‘Roberts analogy’….I had just forgot about him.
will you bl00dy re-read what you have previously posted before talking sh it yourself……..
you said
Most of them dont give a sh it if they’re on the bench or not. Just how much goes into their bank account.Bullard was exactly one of them – Mr LMB was spot on with that………(I forgot about Roberts!)
there were also the stories of him in the clubs pished up and acting like Harry Enfield “loadsamoney” .
By the way, Mr Opta, the average distance run during a season is just under 7 miles – I suppose if you add Jimmy’s run just after the game into Wigan to check his bank balance at the local Lloyds then you might be nearer the mark.
Are you happy with your new signing ?
RAF redunancies released today – will this be McGoose ‘signing off’.
Crikey….
Captain Obvious and Mr Motivator – you pair wouldn’t be out of place leading men into battle……
Of course, Mr Garswood, they are ‘professional footballers’ and there should be a healthy competition for starting places, however, my point was I could hardly see Roberto’s selling pitch as a “Yeahh!…great family club…….happy dressing room……..improving every day……great ambition….you might get a few games if any of my lot ‘c0ck-up'”
“Ooooh!….can’t wait gaffer”.
…..and to those already here – “listen nice brace t’other day Franco, but I want to try this new guy out…..hey! and you Figs, go walkabout into central defence again and the new boy will have your shirt”.
Motivation, clarification, inspiration and communication – key aspects of what makes a good leader/coach – what I want to see is how he deals with this in what can be considered an already ‘settled and happy’ dressing room.
Oh! and Mr Arkwright…..if I felt at any time that any of our playing staff didn’t “give a sh it’ they would get short shrift from me……..the Bullard and Koumas days should be well and truely behind us.
I’ve no idea whether any of latics new signings are any good or up to the job but I have to say that just looking at the balance of the squad this morning I’m the happiest I’ve been with it in a long timeEvery single position has good competition for places now all from players who are specialist in that position as opposed to midfielders filling in on the wing etc.. It now looks like the squad can cope with injuries & suspensions without it damaging the balance of the team to any real extent.
Well done Bob
I’m not going to get too excited just yet……..
Roberto’s prowess, tactically, has been well debated on this (and other) boards – ad nausium. However, I want to see how his football brain copes with his man-management skills as he tells those who have provided a good service to the team that they are benched or that the new aquisitions are ‘not really’ that pivotal and can prepare for (at best) a half season of ‘bedding in’ before being considered for one of those coveted starting positions.
They all ‘can’t play’ at the same time……….the trick/skill will be maintaining that fine dressing room morale we have worked at over the past season…..
Good luck Bob
