Who would be playing on the opposite wing to N’Zogbia ?

McCarthy, just as he was before he got shifted into central midfield. I know that’s his natural position and he’s not a winger but that’s exactly my point, we need to keep it tight and counter, McCarthy can fill in as a central midfielder when we’re defending along with Watson which will give us 10 men behind the ball and Hugo up on his own. I doubt it will happen as it’s not Martinez’s way, more of a Bruce tactic but it might work especially with the cheats being up against it.

I agree, we don’t need to start Moses, we can use him as an impact player. Compare what he did against Arsenal in what, 20 mins or so with what he did at Bolton when he started. There is a big difference and going to West Ham will be a fight, not a football match so for me, Roberto should pick a team to fight but also win a football match.

          I would go for:

Kirkland, Melchiot, Caldwell, Bramble, Figueroa, Gohouri, Diame, N’Zogbia, Watson, McCarthy and Rodallega.

Give Gohouri a free role playing just infront of the centre backs, this will then allow Diame to go forward more as he has the legs to do that job and get back. The formation will remain the same but Gohouri can then cover at the back (3 centre backs) or pack the midfield. We need men behind the ball, break up their play and counter. That will frustrate them and we work well on the break.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bobby plays the same team that started against Arsenal or if he starts with Moses but for me it’s hard to drop Gohouri but Caldwell is essential.

The stats don’t lie, we were even on possesion and had more shots and corners.

We didn’t boss the game but we weren’t quiet and yes, we had chances. We had a couple of chances in the 1st half, Hugo coming close from a corner and a couple of shots on goal. Zog missed a sitter at start of 2nd half, Watson had a good shot saved, we had a header cleared off the line followed by some good defending by Arsenal plus the 3 goals followed in the last 10 mins.

Man for man on the day we were better/as good as they were, without a doubt and just for your information, bringing Moses on and changing the formation/moving players around is all down to the manager!

I never mentioned the word genius griff, i’m making my judgement from the last game, not any previous to that.

In our last game, our very own Roberto Martinez outclassed Arsene Wenger, it’s as simple as that. If a manager brings on 2 players and the team concede 3 goals after those subs it spells out bad management/judgement. Roberto brought on Moses who changed the game in a positive way and we ended up winning the game and deserved to win!

The stats show possesion was pretty even, we had more shots on target and off target, more corners and in the end more goals so, on the whole it was a win we deserved. If we didn’t get anything out of the game it would have been unfair BUT I wouldn’t have been dissapointed with the overall performance.

Fantastic management, fantastic effort and a fantastic atmosphere! What a great day!

                  Hard choice!

I actually thought Mario had his best game for a long time yesterday, Gohouri and Bramble did well for the most part and Figueroa was pretty good as usual.

Moreno ran his socks off until he was taken off and what a substitution it was, Moses made the difference and credit to Roberto, he obviously saw what was needed and showed a lot of faith in the young lad against a strong side.

N’Zogbia and Hugo looked dangerous all game but for me, the 3 midfielders were immense. Diame and Diaby are very similar players and both played well in a tight midfield battle but for me, Watson was the man of the match, especially when he hasn’t featured for 99% of the season.

Well done to the whole team though, we had more than 1 man of the match yesterday!

He can’t help being injured. He actually injured himself in training or a reserve game if my memory serves me right so, as you say he’s only started 1 game and made 2 sub appearences but that’s down to injury. I do believe he was signed as back-up though, i’m not denying that and the fact we have taken him on a short term contract until the end of the season proves Martinez didn’t know enough about him/rate him highly enough to give him a long contract.

He will more than likely lose his place when Caldwell returns from his ban but i’ll look forward to seeing how Gohouri plays against a good Arsenal team on Sunday (providing he starts)!

I take your point regarding the performance but what I was getting at more than anything was the fact we didn’t play badly but didn’t play particularly well. I believe we did enough to win the game and were unlucky not to. I also believe we took control of the game right from the off but had little to show for it at the end. The stats show it as all Wigan but the score shows an even game. We are starting to become a poorer version of Liverpool in regards to controlling and dominating teams, having all the ball but not taking chances. This is maybe the Spanish style with both Benitez and Martinez having similar tactics but the fact remains (in my eyes) Bobby is the right man for the job, he just needs to sign the players to take the club forward with him in charge and I will only judge him after the January transfer window next season (he will still be here, mark my words)!

As for Scotland, I believe he puts in the effort but has struggled in front of goal, maybe this is a confidence issue or maybe he just isn’t good enough but he doesn’t deserve any more stick than the likes of Hugo after last nights performance.

I disagree with what you’re saying about Martinez signing Moses. If you want to sign a player, whether it’s for now or the future you can’t hang around and risk another team stepping in. He knows he can guide Moses into being a top player, just like he’s done with McCarthy and when you don’t have a high transfer budget you have to make decisions and Martinez decided to sign Moses.

P.S. I forgot to mention Scharner in my post, I thought he acted like a child when he was subbed and I hope, hand on heart I never see him in a Wigan shirt again. His attitude stinks and the fact he’s not good enough in midfield or defence as he proved last night and at Fulham!

Boyce was part of the back 4 when we played Spurs away and for me, he was one of the many problems that day.

Apart from that you’re right, he’s been pretty solid and we seem to look better defensively when he plays.

What worries me though is whether it’s in Mario’s contract that he has to play and/or has to be captain as long as he’s at the club. He never seems to get dropped unless injured and although he doesn’t seem to be a great leader has been the captain under both Bruce and Martinez.

                                  Palacios, without a 2nd thought.

I would also say Valencia and Roberts would be 2nd and 3rd respectively.
