Anyone any ideas when tickets for the City game away are available? With 7 working days to the game and the majority of away ans being abroad next week it’s pretty appaling that there’s no information on the website!
Surely that’s not a dig at our club/ticket office? They can only release details when City forward them the information. As it happens there’s a rumour tickets are £15 and pay on the day.
So how many tickets have we sold now?ST’s club said 8000 had renewed by the renewal deadline (out of 10k?)
Comms Shield? Any ideas?
I’ve heard 9,000 season tickets, 3,000 (roughly) Wembley tickets and as of Saturday (at the game) 1,200 Barnsley tickets.
So a thread on here with split opinions is irrelevant as the stewards and police are not capable of spotting these flares when entering the stadium. They also seem to ignore the culprit and just get rid of the flare. If/when there is a serious crack down on them you will notice the craze fizzles out.

a very good signing free as wellThere’s no great saving in buying a player on a free transfer. It eventually costs just as much as buying a contracted player.
Agents aren’t stupid! Instead of paying a transfer fee to the former club, the new club pays the money to the player in higher wages.
I would like to point out Dave Whelan isn’t stupid either and if he believes an agent is after too much money he’ll wave him out of his office.
Signing a free agent is much cheaper than buying a player in contract. The player will more than likely remain on the same wage he was on previously (unless there is a bidding war for his signature) as clubs do their homework and the only difference is the signing on fee which tends to be slightly higher on an out of contract player. You’re still saving a lot of money though depending on the length of the players contract.
So, they are banned in every/most grounds yes? I’ve seen a flare set off at almost every home game we have played since around February (in the away end). Think there were 2 against Liverpool and 2 against Villa. Don’t quote me on that though.
I go to a lot of away games and our fans seen to get them in all/most grounds including both visits to Wembley.
So, directing you back to my previous post why are stewards/police not confiscating them when doing the checks? I get searched at almost every away game. I’ve seen people thrown out of games for standing up, swearing, trying to enter the pitch, etc but never for setting off a flare/smoke bomb. I have only seen the flare/smoke bomb removed from the ground, never the fan. Are stewards/police getting their priorities wrong or like me do they just not care?
I am not sticking up for or defending anybody. It is up to them if they wish to run the risk of being caught and maybe banned.
My point was basically that I don’t give a shit. If you don’t agree with it don’t get involved with it. Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t they sold in stores with no age restriction, etc? Also, almost every ground you go to will search you one by one. Can they not identify a flare/smoke bomb and confiscate it?
Without knowing anybody who takes them personally I would like to imagine they have no intention of harming anybody. I don’t know what sort of risks are involved with them as I’ve never seen one in person but to be sold in shops with no age restrictions it’s unlikely they’re life threatening. Some shops even have age restrictions on eggs!
Either way, opinions are always going to be divided no matter what the majority think.
Wigan already have a significant Scottish contingent on their books – Maloney, McArthur, McCarthy, Caldwell and Fyvie. I wonder if they are watching someone at Dundee.David Goodwillie is back at Dundee United, on loan from his disappointing move to Blackburn Rovers. He scored against Dunfermline last night – his first appearance since his return.
If we have an eye on anyone it’ll probably be Gary Mackay-Steven but he’d be costly.
I should also point out I really like the colours, smoke and smell :P
It is something that has got really popular over the last 12 months or so. Almost every club is doing it and those doing it seem to be the young generation. I for one couldn’t care less. I enjoy getting drunk at games, home or away. Not everybody does that but it’s my choice. If I was you I’d just make sure I was more towards the front of the stand as they tend to be set off towards the back. Instead of reporting those doing it just accept it, enjoy the atmosphere and like they do support the club in your own way.
I think it’s pretty obvious we’ve been lining up with a 4-3-3 in all the friendlies so far with only 1 main striker (Holt or Fortune).
I’d go for:
Carson
Boyce
Perch
Rogne (if fit)
CraineyMcCarthy
Watson
McArthurMcManaman
Holt
MaloneySubs: Al Habsi, Wisdom/Caldwell, Espinoza, Beausejour, McCann, Fortune, Adomah/Gomez.
I will be there yes.
It’s yet another historic occasion for our club. The Charity Shield is a game of football that is basically reserved for the 2 elite clubs in England. A. The Premier League Champions and B. The FA Cup Champions.
Just to be a part of this match no matter what the circumstances of the game itself is an honour for our club.
A 3rd visit to Wembley from as low as £25 a ticket with return train tickets around £20-£30 is very affordable.
Another addition to our trophy cabinet? Let’s hope so.
I believe in judging a manager on what he does at Wigan Athletic.
He took Bolton down, surely he should be a legend already!!!
I think it’s quite obvious he impressed Whelan. Whether that was because he’ll accept a low wage, not ask for a huge budget or because he may actually believe he can get us back up and deliver the goods.
I think Coyle himself will be delighted and he deserves our full backing. He is the manager of the currect FA Cup champions and the only team (at present) to be representing England in the Europa League next season.
I hate all this ‘I won’t be renewing my season ticket’ bollocks!
You support Wigan Athletic, not the manager. Regardless of who manages the team, plays for the team, etc they come and go. We as fans are the ones who will stay regardless and be here till the end.
I would expect it from a kid but grown men saying that’s it, I’m not going again. Grow up and give your head a wobble.
I applied but didnt even get a reply! What sort of amatures run this football club!!
Thank fuck for that! :P
Adrian Lopez is Piscu
Alex – I suspect he knew that :S
In that case I really don’t understand his post and feel sorry for the time he put into it.
