Like has been said, there was a game for 25 minutes or so. Two poor goals conceded and that was that.
Shame because after the last two games there was a genuine feeling of optimism amongst us today evaporating at about 3.25. Can’t fault the effort and commitment of the players but sometimes you just have to hold your hand up and doff your cap to a better unit, talentwise and tactically. Although we’re in the same division, we’re not in the same league and we’re not alone.
3 points against West Brom next week will put things right :)
I heard that the actual town of Wigan, rather than the borough, is around 90,000. How it’s arrived at I don’t know
A couple of junctions off the M6 – one north of the town, one to the south – are good ways to arrive at the town of Wigan. ;)
Very clever goodpost
Edinburgh – Some bloke in a pub about 20 years ago. Flat cap, clogs, braces, drinking mild and smoking Park Drive. Can’t remember his name.
At least five of those would have better attendance if it weren’t for ground capacity.
Wigan’s population is misleading because the borough stretches from t’other end of Standish (almost Wiganers) to the far reaches of Astley (definitely not Wiganers) including another full blown town, Leigh, that hates Wigan with a vengeance.
I heard that the actual town of Wigan, rather than the borough, is around 90,000. How it’s arrived at I don’t know but if it is the case, we have a far higher percentage. Trying to explain this particular theory of relativity to the muppets that are always having a pop about our crowds is easier said than done.
Absolutely shocked. He seemed like a true gent of the game.
RIP Gary Speed
13 minutes, in swinger to Di Santo who heads wide.Should be easy enough for Franco
I have been a bit reluctant to post anything on here as it looks like good sensible debate has gone out of the Window….anyway:Problem is that Whelan has just got the club out of debt (hasn’t he??) So why would he put the club back in debt to purchase additional resorces?
Our other main problem is we can’t defend….we need a partnership (been mentioned already on here) like we had with Hencoz & DeZeew….Bramble & Sharner. I watched the game on Sunday and thought we were the better team. We were the better team against Fulham and Newcastle. Its very frustrating as we never seem to be able to defend anything. We looked like a threat going forward and it was the first glimmer of how we play 4-3-3 when we have the ball and are attacking. I think the reason we missed our chances is that we have zero confidence…and probably hitting the post so many times looks like we will never score. I would also bring back Boselli and push him to do better…seems we are going soft on players.
I think we need 2 central defenders who can speak the native language and can communicate. I would dump Gohouri, Alcaraz and Figs and bring in Van Anolt at left back. Play Watson and jones with McArthur as holding midfielder and play Rodders, Moses and DiSanto…I would bollock DiSanto (Bruce/Jewell style) as I think he has it in him to be a great player, but thinks he is Lionel Messi at times…
…I feel sorry for Bob and I am a supporter of Bob but he needs to be screaming at his players in the way Jewell and Bruce would have done. I am Lightside but have to admit, I think he should go if we don’t pick up the three points against Blackburn as something needs to change within the club if we are to make it to next season in the Prem.
I pretty much agree with all you say, especially the bit about Boselli who, granted, didn’t have the best of times first time round but showed glimpses that he is a class act. Sure, he missed chances but he was there to miss them in the first place.
I disagree with what you say about Di Santo though. Not good enough in my mind. Can’t score, showboats, thinks he can play like his pixellated counterpart on FIFA 12 (along with Rodallega) and basically runs and chases around with very little end product.
Sorry to butt into your conversation/argument/debate but I can see a maximum of 8 points from our next 8 games and that’s really pushing it (getting at least one away win and two draws). That’ll be 13 points in the bag at the start of January.
Now call me a pessimist but……….
Who’s John Lennon, doesnt he manage Celtic?
No, and neither does Neil Lennon, to any great degree*
*cue absolutely hilarious Martinez comparison
Maybe we could do a swap? Have Celtic ever played in Scottish Division 1 before? :silly:
It’s a new ‘un on me, but I’ve lived a very sheltered life. :(Me too :(
But I’ve heard that one ;)
One of my Facebook friends said yesterday that if Rodallega had taken six shots at John Lennon he’d still be alive today :woohoo:The old ‘uns ain’t always the best ‘uns :S
Ain’t got a clue who would or could take over but I know it is impossible to make the situation any worse than it is now.
Steve McClaren, Sven, Kevin Keegan, ……
That’s a poor reply. You missed Dale Winton and Julian Clary off that little list.
Anyone trying to defend Martinez or trying to put any positive slant on the current position by offsetting it with where we’ve come from is frankly trying to defend the indefensible.
I want us to stay up but if we don’t, life goes on. The only way to have a chance if staying up is by changing the manager now. He’s had a fair crack of the whip but he hasn’t cut the mustard. Simple as.
People can have whatever opinion they like about Dave Whelan but would have to unanimously agree that one thing he isn’t, is deluded. Unfortunately, if he continues to believe that Martinez is the man to keep his club up, then he is deluded. Almost as deluded as the manager himself with his progressively more bizarre after match comments.
Ain’t got a clue who would or could take over but I know it is impossible to make the situation any worse than it is now.
and your point is darling ?????
When i first started posting on these boards it was alreet. Now its full of tedious reading and the same old people.
Ahh well up the tics.
Dave from Skem/Vat 69
welcome back son :woohoo:
Nah. It’s Parakeet.
Well seeing as, coincidentally, we’ve got City that day, there’s probably more chance of snow than a win. There’s actually more chance of the ‘hell freezing over/snow in Wigan’ double coming up than us beating them.
I think the days of us being their Prem bogey team are over
I’m going for a bit of a long shot on the premise that it’s going to be a mild winter. No more snow in 2011 and the next we’ll see will be on:
