No pissing about with Cloughie and his team, didnt like Burtons style last season under Hasselbaink but watched them tonight and liked what i saw, no fancy Dan stuff or chopping and changing just hard graft and knowing how to get results in the league.

It’s an unfortunate symptom of going up the divisions that decent local youngsters such as Jennings, Chow, Burke, and Flores are now being edged out, especially when it’s in favour of the untested likes of McDonald, Burn and Garbutt. I’d have preferred we stuck with what we had and asked new signings to prove themselves rather than upsetting the equilibrium in such a Rosler-like way.Good shout Martin, i said more or less the same a few days ago on the “Players dropped” thread.

Would have liked the majority of the squad to have been given a chance. All return to pre-season confident after winning the league. Train and play pre-season games together, play the first part of the season together. Keep the momentum going from the second half of last season. If we were having problems then changes could be made in January.

Eggy, your theory could also work the other way around.
One or two of our players can obviously do what Caldwell wants in training (against each other) but are not cutting the mustard on match days against the opposition.
How many times over the years have we had managers that won’t play players then leaves for whatever reason a new manager comes along the players all start with a clean slate players that couldn’t get a game now do under the new manager the player grasps the nettle, plays well, scores goals etc and we hear fans saying “And to think John Smith wouldn’t play him” or “that lad couldn’t get a game a few weeks ago”
We won’t know what these lads can or cannot do in this league if they are not given game time.

Mark lawrenson said years ago on football focus: “you buy players good enough for that division.”Maybe caldwell thinks certain players are not up to it in this league, & who knows, he might have players in mind & be close to deals.
I thought Dan Burn would have been a good signing until i actually saw him play.

They get given a go every day in training to reach certain levels. Maybe some can’tBut they could reach those levels only a few months ago in training?
How does a coach/manager change his training techniques/standards and intensity to fit in with whatever League the club is playing in?
Apart from a few players i cant see much difference in tactics or style of play than last season, not getting away with the silly mistakes/individual errors we made last season at this level.

Planet Studios Tsivili – Zante.Brilliant place with its own Sports Bar. Wide screen tellys everywhere. This is our 3rd time. They even put Wigan v Stoke on the big screen for me on our first visit on the Saturday afternoon (2-2) and the 4-1 League Cup game at Forest the folowing Tuesday. I’ll ask about the QPR game but I’ll be surprised if they can find that for me. ;)

At least give the players signed only six months ago a chance at this level, we wont know if they dont get the opportunity.
Alex Gilbey hadn’t played at this level before but he seems to be holding his own.

Big question is though, Are we any stronger than last May when we were crowned champions?No we aren’t any stronger Donny, the squad from last season is being blitzed and has beens and duckeggs brought in as replacements.
Looks like we are going to lose out on Paterson from Hearts now!
