Well Standish I would agree with you on the point that we looked like we were playing the kind of football Bob played in the later rounds of the cup and the year before when it was back to the wall stuff but it was also reminiscent of some of the Jeweler performances in league one and championship.
Whatever it was it was a marked improvement and if we can mix it a little bit more with the passing at the back we should be spot on
Hopefully soon we will be looking at the Caldwell style rather than comparing him with past managers.
Fingers crossed there is very little Rosler style tinkering and the team can gain consistency and momentum.

Well what a difference a striker makes. Well two actually.
Perkins MOTM in his Kavanagh Sheridan Brown Bradshaw Cattermole role bossing midfield. Davies looked the part in the partnership with Grigg and hopefully they can stay in that role together.
All together a very positive attacking performance. Just wondering if Gary has lost Bobs number and gave Paul Jewell a ring. Whatever a very Jewell like performance which also contained some lovely passing moves.
Hope that we see the same set up and side on Saturday. Well done tonight GC and the boys.

A little bit of a consistent team before Christmas alone could have helped. That was in team selection alone.

Don’t think there will be many Wigan folk who do not regard Wigan as Lancashire along with people from Barrow, Ulverston,Coniston, Widnes, Warrington, St Helens, Southport, Oldham, Rochdale, Bolton, Horwich, Todmorden, Salford, Standish, etc etc.

And he wrote off in the sense that everyone in the world would expect us to lose. Wrote off in the sense that any point gained against them would be a bonus.

The quote of all time “Jewell never even tried”
                  FFS. Never heard such crap.
Winning league one with all those goals and points alone was one of the greatest ever achievements from a Latics manager. He never tried against the big boys though but kept us up twice, the first time with quite a few of those league one winning heroes. Don’t suppose he tried against Arsenal in the League Cup either. Paul Jewell our greatest ever manager.

I wouldn’t describe it as our greatest ever season. It was a pretty dismal season but the FA Cup win was our greatest ever achievement as a club and also probably the greatest ever achievement by a manager. From Huddersfield onwards Bob got the tactics spot on, it would be silly to argue against that and as an ex player we were all so proud of his and the clubs great achievement. However in the league the story was a really dismal one and one where given the opportunity the players could have achieved more but that is just an opinion and others would not agree with that and I respect that.
Meanwhile we have to do something on the field not to be worried about Scunthorpe or anyone else in League 1. Surely there must be a way to play with two strikers and still play a passing game and equally surely there must be a way to entertain and win and still look good as a footballing side. Others have done this like Norwich Bournemouth and Watford last season and Burnley and Leicester the previous year. Milton Keynes played with Grigg as a lone striker last season and scored for fun and Bristol City pissed the league playing positive football. We have all these models to look at so are there no videos around for our coaches to study?

Thing is with Bob though we used to lose a lot too. Set out for a draw and in the end still lost. With Paul Jewell we played some of the best football during a most memorable period in Latics history. Earliest memory of Bob was the home game against Wolves and it was bewildering what was happening. Jason Scotland up top on his own and a slow monotonous style that was awful to watch. What made it all the worse was that we were expecting to see football how it was supposed to be played. It was to many equally as bad on the eye as the football styled by John Beck at Cambridge and Nob End. Even more frustrating was when Bob let the players become more cavalier it could work. Most shocking was the beginning of his relegation season and we were all expecting a start to the season similar to how we finished the previous season with positive pressing football but oh no it was back to the horrible slow negative game that was being shoved down our throats as the way the game should be played. No thank you Paul Jewell any day. Paul should have a bronze statue at the main entrance to New Springfield to commemorate our greatest ever manager.

We may attract ten thousand but it is going to be on very rare occasions even if we go on a good run.

My preference to keeping clean sheets is scoring more goals than the opposition. Emphasis on MY. Sorry Standish I either mis-interpreted the quote or used the wrong words myself. Sorry about that.

Its just about the football with me Tez. I don’t mind how many we concede just as long as we score more. Football styles are soon forgotten in a all out game between two attacking teams. Of late we are not an attacking side. Actually Martinez Coyle McKay and even Rosler despite his promises have all been pretty boring apart from the occasional glimse of what we cam do. Gary seems to be continuing that trend. All you ever get every time you comment on this type of football is criticism.

Well I can only comment from the quotation initially put up from Robins and I would say a positive direct style of play. I take it you are not a fan of positive football with lots of goals. My preference is win 3-2 rather than 1-0.

Holt with Grigg. Holt with McKay. Holt with Davies. Grigg with McKay.Grigg with Davies. McKay with Davies. I will pin my hopes on any of these rather than watching our strikers struggle and being set up to fail.
