I suppose you are right there Griff its so rewarding watching all the goals we are scoring and to see the amazing goal scoring record of our lone striker. It would be such a stupid thing to change this style and also such an unobvious question to ask the man who has it in his hands to change things we are doing to a low scoring side without a prolific goal scoring striker!!!
Again when are we going to give up this one up front nonsense.
Defo the best period under the Jewler. Should be a bronze statue of Paul our greatest ever manager outside the main entrance at New Springfield.
How about a Pardew and Allardyce joint management team in charge of England when Roy finishes.I know what you mean about the all time Latics best or favourite 11 and to compete at all in this league we should have at least half a dozen or so players who would get in Paul Jewels squad that won the third division. That is squad and not starting 11. I don’t think there is one. Sad but this is where we are now. Selling players and replacing with journeymen/below average players to balance the books will always result in this. Remember Kenyon continuously selling off the assets to do the same. Surely though those Kenyon years must have been worse than now.
Well at the start it looked like it could be pretty positive. It looked like Maloney playing alongside or just behind Fortune, but alas no! Sean out left and McClean was sort of in that role. Figs at centre half again was questionable. Ben Watson too. Why has he a god given right to start. It all seemed like changing for changing sake. Malky has said he was pretty happy in general with the first two performances apart from the finishing at Sheffield so why not play a similar line up to the Boro game at home where Sean and McCann looked solid in midfield instead of switching players around. We could afford to drop Callum or McClean for a second striker or even play Callum as an out and out striker alongside Fortune. This seemed to work against Blackpool and Birmingham but Rosler changed things around instead of sticking with it.
Is it not glaringly obvious that Fortune needs someone alongside him. Again Fortune worked like mad but he will not score goals if he doesn’t play in the box. Often he was out left or out right or even back into midfield looking for the ball. Saying this a striker playing from centre spot to penalty spot with long passes to run on to doesn’t seem to happen anymore at Latics. Its long gone. Five or at one stage yesterday six midfielders on the park at once seems to be the way.
Well that needs changing and changing quick before next years derbys are Fleetwood Town and Rochdale.Plus he introduced us to the lone striker bollocks. Remember the first ever home game with the mighty Jason Scotland flapping around on his own doing a Fortune!
He indeed put us in this shit in the first place then jumped ship to line his already bulging pockets!
None of our players are anywhere near as good as any of Paul Jewels Third Division side.
That is the benchmark for what is required. The present side would struggle to get promoted next season if we were to get relegated this season.Sorry, he hadn’t been involved in matches at Brentford.
Maybe if we signed players at the end of the season and they had a decent closed season of gelling together it would make a difference. We signed Forshaw weeks after our fiasco of a closed season and he hasn’t been involved in matches at Brentford.
Get him back now. Coyle out!
Mr Brownbill the problem is our insistence in playing one striker. From my first observation of this tactic with Jason Scotland fumbling around on his own against Wolves at home I have found this to be a boring and negative way to play the game and now part way in to our sixth season of this droll garbage is it not about time we played with two strikers on the field.
It doesn’t have to be 442 but please let us not rely on midfielders to get amongst the goals anymore and play our bloody strikers. AS mentioned before how the frig can our solo striker get on the end of their own crosses because our striker seems to be deep and out wide most of the match. Saying that they cant get on the end of Callums crosses because he is played too deep and McClean must have an eye problem because he can never find a blue shirt.Personally I have a lot of respect for Clarke Carlisle and Jason Roberts who work tirelessly to rid football and society of Racism and discrimination in general and funnily enough equal respect with many who have got on to the anti- Whelan bandwagon. There is no room in society for racism, sexism, homophobia and discrimination against sexual orientation, disability or religion. Problem is the protesters are always seen as the loudest voice and common sense seems to get lost along the way. It is easy to shout, but everyone who shouts out their protestations should look at themselves first and they will find that none of us are totally squeaky clean.
Keep up the good work Clarke and Jason but keep it balanced and somewhere mention the fine work Latics and Whelan have done to become North West community club of the year and equally the fine work Latics and Whelan have done for the Kick it Out campaign.Perhaps the bandwagon is too full and Duleep is playing the cards differently just in case Mr Whelan comes out of all this smelling of roses. Anyway it is a change to hear a reporter who likes to look at the story from an alternative perspective.
Must admit that there are very few people I have spoken to who believe Whelan has done much wrong and those people are from a diverse range of backgrounds. Everybody seems to be in agreement in that they can not open their mouths without something being branded offensive by the PC Police or what wasn’t offensive last week is offensive this week.Good points those including the Buffoon bit. Wouldn’t mind Kone back on Loan though.
