Difference last season, though, was that we managed to grind some results out, largely due to 4 factors.
Heskey, Palacios, Cattermole, and Valencia.
Hate to play that same old tune……..but it’s right.
Really think we are in serious decline.
In the first ten games last season even with the likes of Heskey, Palacios, Cattermole and Valencia in the side we didn’t do that well as we only picked up 8 points.
It was only the games between the 11-19th games that we really picked up points and even then 3 penalties won us matches 3 of the matches.

Strip away the four penalties from the first half of last season and Bruce’s record wasn’t that impressive.
So far I don’t see that much difference between this year’s start compared with last year’s. However, we’ve won Villa away and West Ham at home gaining 6 points whereas last season we only gained 1 point from these fixtures.

So to argue we are in ‘serious decline’ is rather premature, particularly at this stage of the season.
According to this report http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8211531.stm our board is doing rather well compared to some of the clubs in the Premier League.
Stewardship means handing something on to the next generation in better shape than you inherited it.

2. Arsenal
3. Wigan Athletic
4. Everton
5. Blackburn Rovers
6. Stoke City
7. Birmingham City
8. Hull City
9. Burnley
10. Bolton Wanderers
10. Sunderland
10. Wolverhampton Wanderers
13. Manchester United
14. Manchester City
15. Chelsea
16. Fulham
17. Portsmouth
18. Tottenham Hotspur
19. Liverpool
20. West Ham UnitedThe Wigan Athletic accounts for the year to 31 May 2008 show it was £66.4m in debt; £23m was owed to Barclays Bank which I suspect is the debt Dave Whelan was referring to when he said it had reduced to £15m in March this year.
This summer the outgoing players were sold for more than the ones we brought in so is apparent the club will have made a profit on these transactions even after all fees are taken onto account. So it is likely that the £15m debt has reduced even further. Hopefully the club is now compliant with the Premiership financial rules.

http://www.notapatchon.net/forum/4-the-popular-side/12643-that-subject-againThe board anticipated the Premier League’s ‘Going Concern Test’ and quite rightly reduced the club’s debt levels so why should they be sacked?
Finances
“They will all have to annually submit accounts and future financial information,” said Scudamore.“At all times the board of the Premier League will be applying a test which basically says this: can the club fulfil its fixtures, pay off its creditors when they are due and also to meet obligations to the Premier League’s contracts and partners?
“If the board believe a club is at risk of not meeting those obligations, it has to then step in and agree a budget for the running of that club. Any transfers can be embargoed.
“It’s absolutely crucial that these clubs are run as ongoing viable concerns. These financial rules apply immediately.
“This is tied in, and we passed the rule during the summer, to a ‘fit and proper person test’. At our club meeting last week, the clubs absolutely endorsed our position of not linking expenditure to income.”

Irrespective of what we should or shouldn’t have done during the Summer transfer window it’s now shut until January so now all we can do if fully support Roberto and the team.
It is quite clear it will take time for the new players to bed in because of a number of factors:
1. Although some speak Spanish they can’t all communicate properly yet.
2. Some players families are still settling in so unless the player is happy at home he’s hardly likely to be performing to his best if his mind is elsewhere.
3. All the players are getting used to Roberto’s style of play. Last season it took Zola a while before West Ham adjusted to his style of play.We need to get fully behind the team tomorrow. WestHam’s right back, Faubert, shows how fans can have and impact on a player’s performance when he says the following on the West Ham official board:
Having switched to his preferred right-back berth from his former position on the right wing, the 26-year-old said the sound of supporters chanting his name had given his confidence a huge boost.
“I feel more confidence and when you have the fans pushing you, you can run a little bit more and you don’t feel the fatigue. I am very happy about this. When I heard my name I was very happy. It’s good for my confidence and it’s good for the team.”
http://www.whufc.com/page/News/0,,12562~1793327,00.htmlBe honest with yourselves and tell me what we will ever win? We can forget the league, forget the FA cup and forget the Carling cup as we obviously don’t want to win it playing reserves. The attendances are poor, but worse than that the actual support is non existant. We don’t invest and really have no future? Is there any point to it anymore or should we accept defeat and just wrap up?I am getting back to the ‘not having anything good to say’ stage
Try supporting Accrington Stanley then you’d really have something to moan about.
http://www.saveourstanley.co.uk/You’re being far too sensible, the season is always over after 4 games isn’t it?For some of our overly pessimistic supporters it occurs much earlier than that. With 102 points to play for it must be really depressing.
Going up obviously fulfilled Whelans dream, but how many Wigan fans are happy? The day of any promotion looks good, but do you think of who you have left behind? Games against say Tranmere would be special, but there are none of those games any more. Going to the match, do you ever feel happy or actually meet Wigan fans who are happy? This weekends home game, just on the off chance we win the game 6-0 you would still see home fans diving for the exits with 10 mins of the game left wouldnt you? Be completely honest if you do it and say why, but if not you must still see it and do you believe we deserve a premiership club with support like this? We can see the chairmans losing interest and if as looks the case the fans are losing interest, do we really have a future?I see you posted the same depressing thread on Wiganer.net

Yes, I’m very happy going to matches.
I stay until the end of each match and only leave when the players have gone up the tunnel.
I don’t give a damn who else turns up to watch the game as long as I do. I find other people make too much noise, sing out of tune and tend to spoil my view. ;)
Try reading about the ‘Going Concern Test’ then perhaps you’ll understand the reason why the club wants to reduce its costs.
No one knows what the future will bring, but who cares; I live for the moment.
Winston Church_ill the Wiganer said:
“We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in Dougy, we shall fight in attack and defence, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our goal, whatever the penalty may be, we shall fight the opposition, we shall fight when landing on the ground, we shall fight in midfield and along the touchline, we shall fight our corner; we shall never surrender.” -
