I want to reiterate and emphasise and give it all a bit of context.
Folks, You have all demonstrated perfectly why my Wigan experience has been so memorable. Your super kind comments are really, well, just that – super and kind.
The truth and ‘fess-up’ time is that in your own way you kinda saved me. I have ‘dark’ patches, there have been 2 particularly low times and Wigan was my therapy and counselling. For 3 hours on match day I could be totally absorbed in what was around me, I would be with you lot having fun and saying daft things, I could forget all the other shite and then when I was at home I could get lost on these forums. (some of you may remember I did a sponsored silence in aid of ‘CALM’ the charity for mens mental health).
Thanks again.
This is fascinating!! and such a very nice thing to say. I’ll get such replies, as yours has just tingled me with a tad of emotion, and I wonder ….. who is he!? Like the guy who asked me about my ParkRun times. Annonimty can be fun sometimes, it stimulates the curiosity.
Thank you!
I’ve only watched 1 game so my sample is clearly representative.
I don’t like the fake canned crowd sound, reminds me of watching bad american comedy shows in the ’70s.
I liked the football mainly because the players got on and played the game and forgot about a lot of the theatrics.
I really really liked it that there seemed to be minimal spitting.
Seemed to be a lot less arguing with the ref. That’s gotta be good.
I didn’t like not being there. My goal celebration just didn’t have the same joyous umph!
Cedric to the rescue following a blinding pass from Balugon.
Horc, if you can muster the time and energy to keep the game going …. then please do. It’s a good bit of Wigan irrelevant quirkie fun. Thanks.
When I get a point the celebrations will be greater than those in Liverpool.
EFL and the Committee said it should have been decided on points per game. Bearing in mind I got ‘nil pointes’, according to Eddie wearing, I reckon the season should be null and void.
HORc … Thanks a lot for all the time and effort you have put into this bit of fun.
Oh NO!! Looks like I’ve missed the team coach. I’m running like hec to catch up and hop on. Maybe I’ll sneak on at Watford Gap and shout out very loud ……. 278787 … oh hec, I’m so dopey I’m on and didn’t know it. Too many cans sneaked on. It’s already there. How, I don’t know.
Next game 1.
Strange times indeed. We arrived in New Zealand for a little holiday and bike ride on 13 March. We managed to get to the airport for our flight for the bike ride, checked our bags in and then got them off as the AMAZING NZ PM said only essential travel and then lockdown.
We’ve been with some friends for 4 weeks on their life style block and I feed the chickens at 5.00pm, plant trees, cut grass, split logs and dig holes deep enough to come up at the centre spot at the DW.
Somehow in the circumstances of hundreds of thousands dieing football has paled into insignificance.
Flights back have been few and far between with fares at eye watering prices from £1500 upwards one way, the sky is not the limit as to how high they try charging, and shortly after you book the airline e mails and says the flight is cancelled you are moved to …. This can happen 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 times.
The UK govt have put on 5 flights to get the thousands of brits back. Elderly, special needs, medical conditions, families with under 12s first. My wife and I are front line NHS staff, but we are not priority!!! If it weren’t for a job and an 84 yr old mother in law I’d almost certainly stay.
We are staying in Martinborough, a fine wine area and we cant get our hands on the bloody stuff because of this rubbish lockdown!
Jacinda, who is GOD, in my eyes. She makes a certain johnson and his team look like incompetent dimwits who are performing in a circus that only employs clowns. What can I say? Sack them all; keep Cookie. Jacinda for manager. Manager of the world.
I agree. Null and void. Circumstances have taken over. For me, right now with so many people involved in this pandemic, adn we all probably know someone affected …………
………. football pales into insignificance and feels a tad irrelevant.
It was recently deiced at the most esteemed and prestigious meeting of the EPL, FIFA, FA and Guess the Crowd committee that Who ever is top at the end of the season, hard luck, there is a moral duty to forfeit that position, Leeds style, to HORC. The queen sat stroking her corgi and Harry, with Megan’s hand up his back were in attendance. Philip just played keepie uppie in the background.
Mr johnson said, simply, with half closed eyes, “you must give it to Horc” as he punched the air with his fist trying hard to convince everyone he was right. Personally it is the first and only time I’ve beleived him. As the situation seemed to be getting out of his control, Dominic simply ran away.
The vote was carried unanimously.
HORC is automatically in the automatic promotion spot, for doing an amazing job and keeping us all entertained and in a true Wigan game, on the edge of our seats until the 93rd minute has passed.
Thanks for the fun HORC, it’s been great.
For our next game, on Monday, my prediction is 0. Points please.
Gracias, thanks, merci, asante sane, dankershern HORC. When so many people are dieing and I’m sure by now most of us know someone, football pales into insignificance and seems irrelevant, at the moment.
Vince is right in that they should first and foremost help the people at the club who are struggling. That way the clubs save money but nobody loses their job. If they wish to help elsewhere then they can do (and have) https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52219771They are quite right that they have been unfairly targeted. Nobody has criticised the likes of soap stars, musicians, other sportsmen or other rich people like GG says. You’ve got the likes of Piers Morgan sitting there slagging off footballers, how much of his wealth has he given up?
Footballers wages are obscene but so are many others throughout the world and plenty of footballers will already either have a charity of their own or will give to causes that they never get the recognition for because we love to have a go at them based on their wage. The simple fact is, if we didn’t watch them they wouldn’t get paid half as much.
And the likes of Branson and philip green who are asking for Govt bail outs.
Oh hang on …. lets not forget the MPs who are getting an extra £10 000 for working at home. FFS!
Maybe footballers who are receiving massive wages should be asked to take a cut, BUT if they are then so should all the others who have such massive wealth. Reece Mogg, Branson, Green, Dyson, Camoron and the rest. It’s not just footballers who earn a lot. All those on more than say £80 000?
GL hi!
This is an amazing trip.
Ali planned everything perfectly, as she does, like a well made jigsaw, infact like the perfect Paul Cook game plan. She’s like that.
We got off to a great start, having a wonderful walk in Tasmania and the anxieties of Barry’s 2 – 2 commentary on the Huddersfield game, which I totally believed to the point that I thought the BBC were rubbish!!
Then we came to NZ and Covid picked up pace, like Yanic running head first at goal.
We compared johnsons bluffering directionless non commital ballshit with Jacinda’s concise proactive planning for the future and doing all she can to prevent the spread of the bug.
Every 2 hours we sigh with relief that we have made a decision, for it to be changed by someone else 2 hours later.
So we are still in the southern hemisphere, I can’t go back to Australia to Ali’s aunt to collect some stuff, my seniors rail card and my UK passport (I’m travelling down here on my NZ passport), and my return Qantas flight has been cancelled!! I may need to look for a different carrier but I see the season has been delayed to the end of April, so there is no need to come back until then.
With every player on the pitch playing out of position and the manager constantly changing his mind I think we should just sack ’em all.Soddit, I would have voted for the trivia quiz. But I’ve been out of touch for a while having every decision I’ve made about our holiday in NZ and Aus being changed for me every 4 hours. I did get to see Wellington Phoenix beat Melbourne Victory 3 – 0. I saw 3 goals in 1 game. That was novel!!
Added to that I guessed the gate ‘spot on’ at 7519. 3 points please Horc.
