To compare him with Ellington (a man who managed to average almost a goal every two games for us) is ridiculous. Though I would agree he has limited opportunities on the chances he has had he has looked slow with a poor touch and to most watching has looked out of his depth. Rosler and Mackay also must have watched him day in day out and decided he isn’t the answer. He’s been working around the club and the training ground for the last year or so, getting to know the ropes. In the absence of a willing, wealthy Arab sheik, it seems like perfectly adequate succession planning to me.

Having just read this article on David Sharpe, I am even more convinced that he should not be let near the Chairman’s position for several years.
