I see the club made a big thing about Mclean and Maloney potentially facing each other.

The way our luck’s going at the moment what’s the betting Mclean goes clattering into Maloney in one of his red mist type challenges…..Maloney broken leg out for season, Mclean does his ankle in the process…also out for season

To take the positives out of that scenario, Rosler would then have two less players to think about when selecting his starting 11.

You can talk about formations on paper all night, but I’m a big believer that how the the game starts and the quality of opposition, in a lot of instances, dictates the formation.
I’ve seen many a game that we have on paper, played “one up front”, but at times it looks like we have 3 strikers. The opposition is pushed back cos we are bossing midfield and that’s how the game has panned out.
I’ve also seen us line up 442 on paper and it has looked like we have only had one striker, cos one is constantly having to come deep to look for the ball due to us getting bossed about in midfield.

I personally don’t think it’s a formation issue we have got, its more of a team not gelling issue and that is due to the constant changing of 4 and 5 players per game.

Rosler has ended up with a squad full of pished off players instead of 4 or 5 who are not making the starting 11 every week.
All the squad bar Carson, are not making the starting 11 every week and that is the main issue IMO.

So if you are listening Mr Rosler, get your preferred formation, pick your preferred starting 11 and stick with it unless injury or form tells you otherwise. The formation is secondary here and IMO is getting far to much air time.

I think you and everyone else here has said/thought this (or something similar) over the past few months and it could be a solution. What I think he should do is off-load/loan some of his players to other clubs; this would ensure that they get playing time and keep their edge and fitness, but more importantly it will reduce the pool in which he has to select from therefore forcing him to keep a more settled starting 11.

Is his problem keeping his entire squad match fit by giving them playing minutes or that he wants to try and please all of them all of the time? Whatever it is he needs to sort it out and sort it soon.

I think that Dave Whelan is probably the only man who would ever give Malky Mackay a job in football again after what happened at Cardiff. So, it will probably happen.

Now this opens up the debate on whether what Mackay did (oh! those scandalous texts  ) was unforgivable or the fact that he achieved promotion, took Cardiff to the Final of the League Cup (beaten on penalties) and was awarded the LMA Championship Manager of the Year in 2013.

I’m not saying that Rosler should be ousted, just that if Mackay was put in the frame then I would back him as he does have a fairly good CV.
I’m not debating how good he is or not as a manager, or how forgivable or unforgivable his actions off the field at Cardiff were. I’m just saying that my understanding is that, within the game, there is a view that it will be very difficult for him ever to get another job. Personally, I think that time will soften that view, but I wonder if Wigan wold be “brave” enough to be the first to bring him back.
And that is, indeed, your prerogative, however I was rather hoping to open it up to a wider discussion among others to glean their opinions.

I think your understanding would have rung true, when it happened. However, I think that would have been on the back of the complete and utter distasteful treatment he received from the Holier Than Thou, never sinned, left wing, pinko, self righteous media we seem to be stuck with these days. And – if Lord Triesman had had his way he would have been horse whipped, boiled and banned from the game for a whole season (if I remember he would have pushed for a longer ban if it was proven not to be private conversation) what a complete and utter twat.

You reason right about it being a brave decision for any club to take him on but I think it would be a masterstroke as not only is he a credible manager but would need to work extremely hard for the club to throw off the shackles placed upon him by the gutless no marks from the FA (Oh! and if it were to happen I suspect he would come cheap – which would tick Mr Whelan’s boxes).

Anyway, it’s just speculation at the moment as we still have a manager.

the total opposit
yes i do take piss but ive watched this club for a while through thick and thin seen chairmen and managers come and go
traveld all over the country non league and through the league been on at springfield when only a thousand on
when i see shyte i know its shyte and who is shyte
after seeing likes of bill kenyon and so on and i get annoyed seeing what is going on
at the club
so how about you sammy you a johnny come latley type or like me one of the old school ?

I’m old school bicky so like me you must know just how much worth Mr Whelan has been to this club yet he is constantly slagged off by some on here. You must also realise that being a championship club is still punching above our weight for the Latics we started to support still yet again the club gets lambasted by those who think that we should be at the top end of the Prem. Like you I get annoyed but when I think back what the club has give me over 40 odd years I can forgive anything.
Amen

The thing is most of us can remember Grant Holt being a useless piece of shite last season, and he was! The thing is Rosler asked him to lose weight and he did, he asked him to work harder in training and he did and he asked him to move up here and he didn’t. If the latter request being turned down was the reason for him being ostracized from the whole squad then one must question the actions of the man in charge! Can he become a true pie eater? A humble pie eater!

From what I have heard, that is the reason he has been sent out on loan.
He apparently had it written in his contract he signed under Coyle that he could commute from Carlisle as part of the agreement to signing for us.

Rosler didn’t like this arrangement and told him unless he moved nearer to Wigan he would never play for us again.

If this is true then Rosler is a bigger prick than we all think.

I know Holt didn’t set the world on fire when he did play, but he didn’t play many games and was injured early on here at Wigan.
When came back after the summer he was a lot fitter and slimmer.

I am sure he could still do the job we need him to do, score fucking goals.
I don’t want my centre forward running his bollox off down the wings etc, I want him in the fucking box either laying it off to his fellow striker or banging the fucking ball in the net.
Eloquently put Horc, and I’m sure the majority of those reading this agree with that sentiment – I know I do.

Must admit you should start building from the back then you are guaranteed 1 of 2 results a draw or a win earlier in the season people said we were strong at the back , they must be watching a different game than me as i thought we have been poor in that position all season , I`ve every confidence we`ll get it sorted as in this league at the moment everyone is beating each other , top six on the cards for me but we need to turn it around and soon .IN UWE WE TRUST (wers me wine gone) :)

I would have agreed with you a few weeks ago, but it’s taking a bit too long to turn around for my liking. It will take some run now to get top 6. Not saying it won’t happen, but it looks a long way off right now.
Agree, and I think the next 5-8 games will determine the end of season outcome.

in reply to: Rosler out #135081

No Sir. In my opinion Sir. Ok there were a few shining lights in the darkness of the Bobby reign. The times he didn’t play the trademark own half tippy tappy bilge.

My post didn’t refer to one of those few shining light moments! Quite the opposite! read it again or am I missing something here?
I notice the picture seems to have gone from Twitter. I hope someone (maybe Rosler, maybe DW) has b******ed him and asked what the **** he thinks he’s doing.

It’s a good job I don’t swear :)

Does your boss dictate to you what you can do in your free time?

Why are people getting stressed about this, he was at home on his own time because Rosler had chosen to leave him out.
No, but his boss does. They have a code of conductguidelines regarding social media that they must adhere to. And that’s not my opinion, it’s a fact.

I’m quite sure that there is no formal clause that stipulates they should not post half-naked selfies on Twitter while there is a match going on but unless he’s completely thick (not beyond the realms of possibility) he would pretty much know that that is the kind of thing that would, at best, be frowned upon.
if it is frowned upon or barred then its only because of the over reaction of some people to what a footballer not selected for a match day squad should be doing whilst that game is on.
Personally I wouldn’t have expected him to have travelled down to the Amex to watch it, or go to the DW to watch the beam back nor watch some dodgy feed on his own pc, so I couldn’t care less if he posts a photo of himself on twitter.

I haven’t seen the photo however so if he’s waving his tallywhacker about, I take it all back
To be fair, it’s irrelevant whether you – or anyone else – cares or not. If they are told not to do such things (and they may or may not have been) then they are in breach of management policy.

The fact that the photo has been removed indicates that either he was told to remove it or he has thought better of it.

For the record, I couldn’t give a toss either.
That’s irrelevant – ;)

Well then Back in the day. Thank goodness some fans are starting to show some emotion about this mess created by Rosler. It is just not good enough. The football churned out is now even more of a bore than than that shite we had to endure under Martinez and his record is abysmal compared to Could. The team and tactics change more than my grundies and watching players struggle by playing out of position is getting beyond the joke. Fans have a right to show they are not happy with this mess created by Rosler. Its crap!!

I’m all for a bit of passion donny but the manner in which it was displayed was an embarrassment to all around and especially coming from an man of his mature years. I agree that if the system/management/players/owners are all to cock (and it is obvious – just look at Blackpool at the moment) then yes, and it would be backed (in general) by the majority but he was out of order.

Call me old fashioned (cue Griff ;) ) but I go there to support and shout (when throat allows me) encouragement – I have been known to tut loudly at times. As LaticinLeigh said, the same team played the top of the league, at theirs, and beat them. We don’t see what goes on in the background so we (I for one) have to trust him for the time being; but if what this sad arse did constitutes support for the team then I am in the wrong stadium.

I must be seeing something different than some, thought Cowie was our MOM, closely followed by Fortune.

Forshaw just needs some consistency, so does Tavs. The central defenders were both woeful and should not see any further first team action for a while, one forced due to 3 match ban, the other is a no brainer.
Not sure who should play alongside Ramis on Tuesday, but would put Maloney in there before Kiernan. :woohoo:

As Paul Jewell once said, the fans are superb at picking the team AFTER the game!

Totally agree with you there JR

in reply to: The good and the bad #134827

I had the misfortune of taking up a Corporate offer yesterday. I say misfortune as, although the meal, service and padded seats are a welcome bonus on a matchday – I was sat several rows behind some real sad arse venting his spleen at Rosler. We all have our “why did he put him in the team moments” but this sad get really bust a blood vessel trying to let him know it. Sad, very sad.

Like many I enjoyed the match, good to see little change from the last outing, and was pleased Roger had the game he did in front of the doubters among us. I think that had he been given the opportunity to have played more games, last and this season, then his true potential and positive impact on the team and energy levels would be more appreciated.

Let me start this next bit by saying that I like Kiernan, however, in my opinion, I feel that Ramis would have been a better selection to start and that would have been a much stronger back four. Also Kiernan has the little annoyance of heading the ball at every opportunity instead of a quick look around, checking time and then trapping the ball. Ramis, however, is not without his faults as well – that long pass at the end of the game was shocking when he had so much room to maybe take it up a little, but he can mix it with central midfielders as well and knows how and when to just clear the ball.

Like someone else mentioned I felt McManaman was played out of position on the left and should have been on the right wing from the start where he is obviously more dangerous – but that’s the managers prerogative.

Again, a little surprised we played only one striker up front and, although I have great respect for Fortune, he really is a hold-up striker and can work better with a nippy, in-the-box striker, but again I’m not selecting the team nor have I seen the injury list or how the team have performed over the week on the training ground.

Negative: we conceded that penalty so late in the game. We need to learn to know when to stop the game and just run it down, and if that means lashing it upfield whenever it enters our half then so be it.

Positives: The players didn’t let going behind get to them (again). Gritty determination to play the ball. Better understanding between players (is that because there were not many changes?) and finally a faster paced game getting to the second ball more which really upsets the momentum of the opposition.

in reply to: Ali #134776

I think this is a good move for him to get some serious game time under his belt – that is if they play him of course. What is the reasoning behind this, do you know?
