Wow wow!! Sure this thread should have been blocked a while back! B)
I have personallly met LMB.. He’s alreet.
To be honest don’t understand too much more about the thread as I don’t know any of ABL’s other guises as I don’t stalk people and constantly accuse them of being multis.
It is a forum, peoples opinions may differ and there may be debate, but this just seems to have got a little aggressive ;)
Why doesn’t everybody kiss and make up?? It is the end of the world today you know. ;)
Oops, Arsenal at Bayern it should have read :silly:
If Arsenal don’t play to their best then they will do more than just struggle at Bayern! Will be a good game though and could go either way if Arsenal perform well! B)
Arsenal have had an inconsistent season so far but just might have turned a corner?
Not a man u lover by any stretch but that tie does look to be the pick of the lot
I myself am a Man Utd hater, hate everything about them and the majority of their fans. Admittedly that is the most lucrative tie, but I think it will be a massive anti-climax when it gets to the game, really don’t enjoy watching Utd play its quite boring, and think they will ruin what should be a good match for the neutrals. (Not sure if I class as a neutral as I will be cheering on Madrid all the way in this fixture) B)

These coaches are almost full.

Thanks to those who have booked.
Arky aka suddy, wiganmon, james c,dave, prince charles, rod stewart and Henry the V111 th. :PNOT JamesC.. Think this has been established already. By more than one person on this board!!
Unless I am everyone else too?
Regardless of the next four results how about a moan free, only positive thoughts on this site until the New Year (and then we can let rip ;)Anyway have a good one.
Beannachtai na Nollaig
You may get that idea going… But only on this thread, it’s never going to happen on the whole board!! :woohoo: ..
.. Actually scrap that.. There will probably be some negativity on this thread too!! B)
ABL.
Fair point with regards to the ‘Support somebody else’ comment, as it is a little childish, I did realise this. I was just getting across the point that, if you are going to support a team why constantly complain.
Of course we all WANT to improve and progress quickly but at what cost are you willing to try that?? Financial stability and a healthy future for the club HAS to be priority. And for Whelan it looks like it is, thankfully.
I don’t believe it is boring per say, I still get exited at matchdays when they come! And it’s November at the moment.. You should maybe wait until season end before deeming the season boring.. as who knows, we could go on an unbeaten run starting Saturday! Stranger things have happened ;)
Believe!
No worries, JAMESC.
It’s easy to post something and then think “shouldn’t have said that”.
I hope we DO go on a good run. When I said I found it ‘boring’, I was talking about overall over the past few years. I just think we’ve hit a brick wall as a club.
Mind you, when clubs like Liverpool can’t compete for the league, it shows what a task it is. The greed league. I said to an Everton fan the other day “If you finish 4th this season, I would celebrate like you’d won the league, because with the power and spending of United, City, and Chelsea, you’ve as good as won the bloody thing”.
I’ve been told that Everton rely on a full-house at Goodison to break even, given their wage bill.
It’s NOT the league for us this, and unless some Billionaire from the Middle East buys us as his ‘play thing’, (Sheikh Envak, anyone? :cheer: )
We won’t ever compete at this level. But we are at this level on merit, so just have to put up with it.**
**This is why I like jetting off and watching a game abroad. No pressure, just enjoy a game. Planning on going to watch Barca again before end of season. Just waiting for cheap flights to come on sale! Does you good to watch a game away from the pressure, and it helps when you are watching the likes on Iniesta and Messi!
It really is!! Like I shouldn’t have posted that it was November haha :)
It is right what you say regarding ‘If Everton finished 4th’ and I understand (In a sense) why you say the league is boring in that sense, as 4th is the best that some teams could EVER hope for (Everton for example) but it is always decent and interesting to see how the bigger teams compare to each other (Last seasons climax was brilliant).
I think this is the league for us though, we have waited a long time to be here so just enjoy it ABL as I predict we will be here for a while longer ;)
Never actually watched Barcelona play live but I have been to the Nou Camp on a tour.. Would love to go back to watch a game though.
As I might not get on the net after tonight**, I’d just like to wish everybody a very happy Christmas and a very prosperous and happy New Year.Decent site this, and to be honest, although many of us have different opinions, it tends to stay within sensible peramiters. (For the most part!)
All the best!
**hopefully not on moaning after Saturday!
All the Best ABL…
You won’t need to be on here moaning on Saturday, if anything you will be on here praising the team for their tremendous win!! B)

We are in the exact same position with almost identical points and goal difference for the 3rd year running and so I don’t see why some of us are surprised ! I will say it again, this club has gone as far as it can possibly go !

Deja vu yes so what is negative about that?-teams never get relagated in december do they?
Each year the final points tally has been improved upon under Martinez and i have no doubt that this will happen again. He does an incredible job on tight resources which is why other clubs keep hovering about each close season.
We have seen some fantastic games and some amazing results against the top 4 that we certainly didnt get with Bruce and Jewell.
His teams are inconsistent and drive us all up the wall at times but you cannot argue with his loyalty and comittment to Latics. The improvement will come and we will defy the odds once again.
Easily three worse teams than us this year and i am confident we will survive this year and improve the points tally as usual.
Go on then, name 3 worse teams than us? I’m not seeing it, myself.
Going off our current average, I predict we will end up with around 35 points.
QPR, Southampton, Reading and Sunderland are 4 teams I believe we are better than, probaby a few more.
In honesty I don’t think Sunderland are that bad but I think we are a better team.. Especially when our defenders are back I think we are easily better than the aforementioned teams. If we start banging couple more goals in you can add a few more teams to the above list too! B)
QPR- We’ve just drawn with.
SOUTHAMPTON- We beat at their place and MUST beat them at home.
READING- I agree they didn’t look much….yet we nearly only drew.
SUNDERLAND- Have already beaten us at their place.I’m still not convinced. At the moment, WE are among the three worst teams….the table doesn’t lie. And out of the next few games, can you honestly see us picking up many points? I can’t.
Not going to go too far into this as it is obviously just a difference of opinions pal.
In regards to where we will get points.. Arsenal on Saturday.. Watch this space.. 3-1 win for the lads… B)
KEEP THE FAITH!
Adrian Lopez is waiting on the results of a scan on his injured hamstring but Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez believes he will be out for between six and ten weeks.Great news.. Just what we needed!!
Feel for the lad though, he’s just starting to show what he can do. Been pretty solid in recent weeks.
I think we should be thankful we don’t have the right to bear arms* in this country and that’s not just for the sake of our furry domesticated friends.
* although there would be certain advantages in having arms like a bear.
I echo those sentiments, Sammy. The events of the past week in Connecticut have shocked me to the core. To the point that I’ve not bought a paper for a few days as it was simply too hard to look at and read. I read it the other day and I can honestly say I never slept that night. Shocking beyond words.
Was talking about this topic with a friend the other night…
If everyone has the right to own firearms.. Then this will continue to happen.
If you think about people that go out with the intention to kill/harm a person/people, imagine how much worse it would be if these people have easy access to firearms. Especially with the type of people that seem to be around these days!!
It has happened in the past and will continue to happen if nothing gets done very soon!!

Ah the old Portsmouth chestnut ! Don’t expect to ever finish in the top half then or expect the club to have enough depth in its squad to go on a good cup run because it will not happen ! I think I would prefer to compete on a more level playing surface and glean more satisfaction from our home performances than merely survive every season. The odd win every blue moon against the big boys (which I hasten to add shouldn’t really be a surprise because we are after all in the same league)just doesn’t do it for me because in-between there are too many lac lustre performances ! In my opinion ( Stats back this up ) under Bruce we had more success and to be honest the football wasn’t as bad as many make out. The sight of Camara running on to a lofted pass had many of us rising from our seats and there did seem to be a hell of a lot more penalty area action back then ! The wages have since been cut and the purse strings tied in a double knot but had we continued in the same vein financially as we did under Bruce I really don’t think there would have been an implosion !
At the risk of being a pedant, Camara didn’t place for Bruce. He got shipped out on loan…. ;)
Anyway, that not why I’ve posted.
So, on the matter of investing and taking a risk, how much investment were you thinking of?
For each Premier League place, a club is awarded £750k, so based on last season, we’d earn an extra £7.5 million if we finished in 5th (I’m not being too ambitious and factoring in Champions League)
For winning the FA Cup, a club is awarded £3.4 million
For winning the League Cup, a club is awarded £100k
For reaching the Europa League Group Stage, a club is awarded £500k
And if this success filled our stadium each week and we charged £20 per ticket for the 5k extra – based on an estimate of 25 home games, we’d earn an extra £2.5 million
In summary – for finishing 5th, winning the FA Cup, winning the League Cup, reaching the Europa League Group Stage and filling our stadium every week, we’d bring in an extra £14 million.
Yes, it’s a simplistic view of it before anyone points that out, but the general theme is that it is one heck of a hope and a wing and a prayer for not a huge return.
Take out the League Cup win, and that’s the route Portsmouth took.
With those figures we should snap Messi up immediately and pay him what he wants!! :P
At the end of the day some fans are just happy with their lot even though it aint a lot ie club run on a shoestring but financial stability and others would have liked to have seen Uncle Dave take a gamble to back up his sound bites ! I am in the latter camp and so therefore will forever be disillusioned ! :S
Again this is just an opinion, but if some aren’t happy with the club and how it is run.. Why do they continue to support the team?? Surely they could support someone they would be ‘happy’ with.. But in all honesty I think some people just like complaining, simple as that.
And what do you recommend filmoss.. Do you want us to attempt greater things (That aren’t possible) and follow in the steps of the Glorious Portsmouth F.C etc??
I personally would prefer to watch and support my team, and see financial stability aswell.
Don’t expect to finish in the top half then??.. Talk about defeatist!!
I fully expect us to finish in the top half at some point in the near future, and if not I still like to dream, you just seem to want to insult what si happening. If we invested a lot more money into the club (And risk financial difficulty) then what do you expect to gain, to finish a few places higher?? Would that make you happy?
We are coping well on a well run budget, and with the right work done and put into place I believe we can grow into a better team, we don’t need lump sums of money needlessly splashed out to be competitive.
We have coped and progressed over the years without overspending, and done well by sticking to our budget.. And I fully believe and have hope that we can continue to do so, so why not again? No need to put the Club at risk by spending/wasting big money. B)
Keep the faith!!
