Do you remember James McCarthys debut for the tics?

If you do then I presume you also wrote him off as a lump of lard.

No, this thread is about some mates who have bagged cheap train tickets to an away game that they are quite looking forward to!

Ok we’ll leave it at that then.

About 28 players in the last 10 seasons that have left Wigan.

Shouldn’t Millwall FC and the police be working to change fan behaviour at Millwall – or is football a licence for antisocial behaviour?

Segregation just makes the situation worse. Look at the extraordinary plans that the police put into place for Blackburn/Burnley games. They should be working to make relations between the fans better, not worse.

Nobody wants to go to a football match and end up in hospital. Wouldn’t you like games to be suitable occasions for all the family? At least Wigan has the benefit of a generally friendly atmosphere.

This thread is not about trying to find solutions to ASB at football, it has been going on since the first kick of a ball was made. You are just stating the obvious.

It has improved over the years, but will never be removed as long as you have shithouses, and drugs & alcohol around.

There are a lot of fans who have bad memories of Molyneaux, people need to know the history and take the appropriate action or make their own minds up about mode of transport and behaviour.

I deal with ASB in a lot of Wigan public buildings and parks and believe me, no matter what action you take, the shithouses will always be shithouses even if they are tagged up to the hilt and have done time.

Talk about raining on someones parade!

It was not meant to put people off going, it’s just to warn people of what they could face if they wear the colours and stray into home territory. At most places you would just get a few sulky faces and the odd scowl from the losing home fans, I would not take any chances personally at this place.
I missed a few other things from my account of that day, George will know what things went on, it was pretty horrendous.

People go on about the Den being the worst place to visit, I have Millwall down as the safest place to go by coach. You get driven straight into a cage with all the Millwall animals banging on the mesh and shouting stuff.

Molineaux closely followed by Elland Road are the worst IMHO.

I personally know simmpool and know that he would not go down by train singing latics songs on the way to the ground waving blue and white scarves, its others who may try this that may be at risk, especially if consuming plenty “pop”.

In the incident I’m referring to and probably Garswood to, on leaving the ground Wolves fans immediately mingled in with the Wigan crowd, selected their prey and then began their intimidation routine. There is a steady incline back to the coaches where you are not protected, its not that far so you really don’t expect any trouble.

I had a middle aged chap standing on my toes and bumping into me trying to get a response. This was happening to loads of Wiganers despite age or gender. In a crowd situation this is nigh impossible to pick up on CCTV.

Their aim was to get a physical response from you and then bushak, they would wade into you claiming it to be simply protecting themselves against your aggressive behaviour.
I quickly had this sussed, so simply nibbled back without making it too obvious. My other mates were getting the same, the odd fan did react and that’s when the attacks / fighting started.

It didn’t end there, as the away crowd reached the top of the hill, some geezers who looked like officials, where directing the fans down a street to the right. We could see the coaches to the left in the distance, so we ignored them and carried on. Those who took the right turn, thinking it was a safety measure to keep fans apart, were met with a possy of Wolves fans despite coppers being all over the place. It must happen regular, so why the coppers didn’t intervene god only knows.

I’m making this out to be the worst option for travel, the fans traveling by train may have missed all this, but my thinking is if it happens so close to the ground with a heavy police presence, then town centre areas must be a nightmare.
My advice is do not wear the club colours if going by train, keep a low profile especially if we win.
Hopefully these idiots may have grown out of their thuggery, although like I said, the majority looked to be between 30 and 40 years old.

I’ll still be there for the game and just hope that 10 years on things have changed. :woohoo:

No one knows how the transfer is being paid though do they it was reported that when Valencia went to Utd the fee was paid over three years and probably same with the Wilson move to Spurs It could be the same with Romelu Lukaku transfer fee

We could say that about every signing then, will Barca pay Liverpool their £75m or so over 5-6 years?

£28m is a bloody lot for a player with Everton’s financial position no matter what the annual or monthly installments are. He was signed by Chelsea for about £10m, was then loaned out to two other premiership teams having failed to score once in 10 games for the Londoners, :woohoo:

Fair do’s he did have a good goal per game ratio for both West Brom and Everton, but just think, Bobby could have signed nearly 5 Arouna Kones for that.

Not having a pop at Bainsey just saying it as I see it. Just like Steven Gerrard he will forsake any chance of a premiership winners medal in order to play for his childhood dream team. Let’s see what fortune and fame bestow Bainsey and Luke Shaw, who can’t lace Bainseys boots at the moment IMHO.

Nicely snuck in the edit about the premiership winners medal…

The thought of posting a pic of Gerrard holding up the Champions league cup did cross my mind.
Don’t know what u on about mate.
Well either way you decide to write it, I dont agree. Would you rather have a champions league medal with Wigan or a few premier league medals with Bolton?
Wigan and Bolton? That’s a silly comparison and I still firmly believe that Bainsey, Martinez and more importantly BK will not get that CL place they are striving for. Someone earlier on this thread said that Everton had not got the finances to compete with the top 4, well perhaps not quite but talk about putting all your eggs in one basket!

I’m sure someone on this board had previously posted that they had no chance of keeping hold of Barry and Lukaku…

I think its a real coup to keep hold of both and fend off the interest in Baines for that matter but if the £28M fee being reported is correct then I think Martinez and Kenwright want to get their heads checked.

Money aside though they look pretty strong as a squad going forward so all the Martinez cry babys on here can look forward to another season of egg on their chin.

Pretty strong squad egh? They are almost identical to the one that failed to get champs league football last season that BK was promised. They have not moved forward to the squad that failed to jump past their biggest rivals who are playing champs league football this year.

As for Bainsey what a foolish man. By staying at Everton he has spurned the chance of doubling his wages, playing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe, getting 3 or 4 premiership winning medals and a few major cup winners medals. Anyway no worries Leighton you get to play nice tippy tippy football and win the possession stakes in most matches.
