But not bottom four
31 July 2014 at 4:58 pm #1325617 million for Bosselli and 3 million for Scotland, compared to these two 28 million for Lukaku looks a steal.Hindsight is a privilidge that Managers dont have unfortunately.
If you told me that you didnt think Boselli and Scotland looked like good signings for Wigan Athletic at the time of purchase, I would have to call you a liar.
It was reported as £6 million for Boselli and £2 million for Scotland. Why not add an extra million to each for effect though eh?
31 July 2014 at 5:13 pm #1325627 million for Bosselli and 3 million for Scotland, compared to these two 28 million for Lukaku looks a steal.Everton and Martinez are going to be spending c.50 million pounds this close season and basically getting last seasons side back, the best they can hope for despite that massive investment is fighting it out for 5th, 6th or 7th place in the league, madness.
They raked in about £40m on the sale of Fellaini, Jelavic & Anichebe so the net outlay will be much less than that.
Madness yes, but nowhere near as mad as some others.
31 July 2014 at 7:00 pm #132563I’m sure someone on this board had previously posted that they had no chance of keeping hold of Barry and Lukaku…I think its a real coup to keep hold of both and fend off the interest in Baines for that matter but if the £28M fee being reported is correct then I think Martinez and Kenwright want to get their heads checked.
Money aside though they look pretty strong as a squad going forward so all the Martinez cry babys on here can look forward to another season of egg on their chin.
Pretty strong squad egh? They are almost identical to the one that failed to get champs league football last season that BK was promised. They have not moved forward to the squad that failed to jump past their biggest rivals who are playing champs league football this year.
As for Bainsey what a foolish man. By staying at Everton he has spurned the chance of doubling his wages, playing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe, getting 3 or 4 premiership winning medals and a few major cup winners medals. Anyway no worries Leighton you get to play nice tippy tippy football and win the possession stakes in most matches.

Nobody knew anything about Boselli other than his supposed pedigree, but it emerged that John Benson had told Martinez that in his view, after watching him on a number of occasions, that he did not have the attributes to make it in the premier league, that is not hindsight on Martinez’s part it was rank bad management.
As for Scotland he was a journeyman who had had a couple of decent seasons in division two or Scotland and been poor/ordinary everywhere else he had played, nobody thought he “looked like a good signing” and as it proved he wasn’t even as good as that.
But “why not” let your hero worship of Martinez shine through “for the effect though eh?”.

Yes almost identical to the one that finished with Everton’s highest ever points tally in the Premier League. Whatever you think about Martinez and completely putting him aside for a second, Everton do have a very good squad of players IMO.
I think they will do well this year. Tottenham and Southampton will nose dive and sack their managers before Christmas so I think Everton have the best chance of any to break that big 5. That being said if they finish 6th or 7th after finishing 5th the season before then Martinez will be happy, Kenwright will be happy and 99% of Everton fans will be happy.
Having a pop at Bainesy too? The dark side is clearly consuming you ;)
31 July 2014 at 10:40 pm #132566Not having a pop at Bainsey just saying it as I see it. Just like Steven Gerrard he will forsake any chance of a premiership winners medal in order to play for his childhood dream team. Let’s see what fortune and fame bestow Bainsey and Luke Shaw, who can’t lace Bainseys boots at the moment IMHO.

No hero of worship for Martinez loudmouth. I’ve moved on with my life and so should you. I cant believe people are still talking about the man. Its been over a year!!
And as for your opinions like I said Hindsight is a wonderful thing. A player with a “supposed pedigree” and another who has scored 20 odd goals for your new manager the season before wasn’t questioned by anyone, including you.

The thought of posting a pic of Gerrard holding up the Champions league cup did cross my mind.

Out of that 40 million they paid out 20 million for McCarthy and Kone, if reports are true they also paid a loan fee of some 6 million for Lakaku and 2 to 3 million for Barry on top of their wages, plus other signings it doesn’t leave much out of 40 mill received.

Well either way you decide to write it, I dont agree. Would you rather have a champions league medal with Wigan or a few premier league medals with Bolton?

Wigan and Bolton? That’s a silly comparison and I still firmly believe that Bainsey, Martinez and more importantly BK will not get that CL place they are striving for. Someone earlier on this thread said that Everton had not got the finances to compete with the top 4, well perhaps not quite but talk about putting all your eggs in one basket!

What a journey!1 August 2014 at 9:27 pm #132579No one knows how the transfer is being paid though do they it was reported that when Valencia went to Utd the fee was paid over three years and probably same with the Wilson move to Spurs It could be the same with Romelu Lukaku transfer fee

£28m is a bloody lot for a player with Everton’s financial position no matter what the annual or monthly installments are. He was signed by Chelsea for about £10m, was then loaned out to two other premiership teams having failed to score once in 10 games for the Londoners, :woohoo:
Fair do’s he did have a good goal per game ratio for both West Brom and Everton, but just think, Bobby could have signed nearly 5 Arouna Kones for that.
