If its any consolation Runcorn I feel exactly the same as you about RM and for the same reason.
Forget what other managers and players have done and are still doing, Roberto Martinez really gave the impression that Wigan was a special club, after all, Whelan did give him the break he needed to start on the road to were he is now.
I openly have been 100% behind Bobby during his time with us and understood exactly what he was trying to achieve with the club both on and off the field. A few others on here felt the same and were sworn like me into the CL “Lightside” club.
Up to and including the relegation I think he had made great progress, whilst being constantly hampered with money constraints, players who did not fit into his way of playing or fulfil their promise, losing our better players, really poor refs decisions in key games and unbelievable injury problems particularly in defence last season. All in all a great effort, but for all those reasons we got relegated. I don’t believe for one minute the FA cup was a distraction, it should have spurred us on.
Now the bit that turns the fairy story sour for me, is the fact that he jumps ship at the time when the troops needed to gather round, fend off the wolves sniffing at our best players and march back to the EPL. I still think we are good enough to play in that league and saty in it for many more seasons.
Not only does he jump ship, but he comes and raids the backroom staff, some I rated others I deffo didn’t and takes two of our better players and will no doubt return for more.
Yeh, yeah, yeah, that’s what all managers do, but seriously I thought Bobby wasn’t like all managers, he is Mr Wigan Athletic and had allegedly turned down Liverpool and Villa to stay with the love of his life.Sorry Bobby but I still care for my team with a passion and you have “thrown the towel in” to join another club when I actually thought you did love our club enough to stay and at least make a one season effort to get back in the prem. Christ your only a kid in football managers terms and have a long career ahead of you, just one season it needed mate, for old times sake just one more season.
So that’s were I am on the situation, nobody can change my mind with reasoned discussion and I don’t want to even contemplate going down the route of trying to change any posters views on here or any other forum.
Bobby made a decision and it involved turning his back on Wigan Athletic, so I hope he gets what he deserves at Everton and fails doing handstands, just like the many players who have left our club to go on to “better things”….. they wish!

What a journey!Due to the low number of Latics fans who are bothering to travel down, I believe we’ve been allocated a small section of the off licence on Dukesbury Street. You’ll find us behind the spring onions and washing up liquid.

What a journey!Yip, he has signed for Boro.

What a journey! From where I was sat, I think we have witnessed goal of the season before the league has started.
Take a bow the new Jason Roberts,…………… Mr Fortune. :cheer:

What a journey!Think mcarthy and maloney may stay till Jan and then look at our league positionThat’s exactly what I think will happen. If you read between the lines as to what’s happened at villa with Benteke, he hears that every tom dick and harry are after him. He thinks the club will just let him go, even though he has signed a 3 year deal less than 12 months ago. Lambert whispers in his ear, you can either withdraw your transfer request and sign a contract extension, or you rot in the reserves for two years and everyone will have forgotten about you.
McCarthy’s big chance of a move will come in January. If he decides he doesn’t want to sign a new deal which will probably double the wages he his currently on, then we have to cash in on him. Unless the big moves of Bainsey and Felini come off nobody else will afford Macca.
Even Spurs are reported to be trying a cash plus players deal. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!Didn’t Maloney not sign a four year contract last January?
If Coyle wants to keep him he can. We are holding the upper hand on this, its not like he’s in the last year of the contract like McCarthy is.
I still believe we will lose no more players, basically cos we don’t have to. B)

What a journey!Very poor opposition, mind you.
I would say they are slightly better opposition than Barnsley.
I very much doubt that actually, John. We’re not talking an MLS side here. Pub team with a smart ground, really.
Yes your right Griff, its college football but they are fit lads with feeders straight to MLS.
A bit like our football league have feeders straight to the EPL. Its interesting reading to see how the MLS are made up of ex pros [well past their best]with players who have gone through the college football and joined their elite.
Would the win been better if the likes of Beckham, Henry, Hesky had played? From Matlock to ManU

What a journey!4-1 to the tics goals from Holt and Gomez second half to add to Espinoza’s and Boycies in first.
Out of all the goals Holt’s pleased me the most. Proper poachers goal beating the defender to the ball to drive it past their keeper.
Disappointments? non really, perhaps energy levels dropped second half, but that was to be expected with all the work they have put in for 5 days, 3 games and scorching heat.
Things that pleased me; clinical finishing, Crainey’s ability to swap from right to left back.
The performance of Adam Buxton when he came on second half, full of confidence and drives forward linking up well with mid-fielders and forwards. The fact that we still continue to pass the ball, but seem to get forward quicker.
the fact that every free kick is walloped into the box and we look a threat with the new boys and Boycie.
Great trip for the boys, I look forward to seeing them at LSV next Monday. :cheer:

What a journey!Winning 2-1 ht and a great finish by Grant Holt ruled out for offside right on 45 mis.
I like the formation with Crainey playing right wing back and Jean Beau the left wing back. The two Maccas and Watson bossing midfield. Not sure what position Gomez is playing its sort of on the right but linking up with Crainey and Holt.
They may be a poor side, but it’s men against boys since the 2nd minute when their left winger blasted in an unstoppable shot off the cross bar.
Perch looks very calm at the back and likes to bring the ball out a la Alcarez.
All in all great first half, just hope this artificial pitch doesn’t cause any injuries, although it does look as realistic a plastic pitch I’ve seen.

What a journey! That game saw the best tup I’ve ever seen on a football pitch. Administered by our ex player and assistant manager Graeme Jones.
He was trudging towards the tunnel having just been red carded when one of their players must have said something to him and boooshak!
