What Bobby means is that he is short on numbers who he can realistically call upon for first team duty.
So for example, if he gets rid of 6 dross and brings in 3 lads who are good enough to push for a first team place , his “numbers” have actually increased.
It’s fekin easy this football manager milarky!!.

What a journey!I think Burnley were doomed with OC in charge or not. I sit right behind the away dug out at the DW and can usually judge how good a team is by whats sat on the bench. Although they’ve not been to the DW yet I know I’m going to see a load of dross when they do. That will also coincide with suspensions and injuries to shall we say ” the better players”.
Every year we see the same thing happening to these type of clubs and that included us a few years back.Last year when Hull were riding high during the first part of the season I tried to bet my mate that they would be struggling with relegation and that we would finish higher, the same fete will happen to Birmingham.
Wolves are also doomed. ;)From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!I remember a few years ago I made this song up to the tune of “hi-ho silver lining”. We played away at Derby and I went to a gang of young lads and went through the song with them. Sure enough they kicked it off 2 or 3 times and my chest was level with the pitch even though I was sat on row JJ.
Never heard it again after that game though.
The song went something like this and could easily be changed around a bit to include “Roberto’s”, “are playing in the prem” and “were staying up again”
And its Hi-Ho Wigan Latics,
Everywhere we go, we’re singin’
Paul Jewell’s barmy army
Are marching to the Prem…….We’re goin up again!!From Matlock to ManU
What a journey! Is that Cadimaterri the ex-leeds player?
And you have the nerve to criticise someone else’s spelling of Fryatt? ;)
Haha apologies, I C&P’d Fatfan’s spelling of it if im honest :P
I knew I’d fooked up on that one and couldn’t be bothered google-ing for the correct spelling, thats why I put [sp] after it.
yes it is the same one, made his name at Everton and had a spell at Bradford if I recall amongst others.

What a journey! And since when have the Jocks been the font of all knowledge on football matters?Gretna and St Johnstone? Give me a break
Good call Griff. Watched the celtic v rangers game the other day and for the talent on show and class of football, might as well been watching Yeovil v Rochdale.
The players who are making the headlines up there at the moment are the likes of Danny Cadimarterri [sp] and Danny Invincible FFS.

What a journey!whelan has learned ,and that is how not to spend on good players ,but bring in crappy cheep players .FFS you lot are as thick as the falling snow!!
When will you realise who we are. There is no fekin chance of Wigan Athletic attracting “proven premiership players” at the current time.
Firstly, we couldn’t match their current wages and secondly would they really want to come to a team just above the bottom 3.
Just look at the “better quality ” players we’ve attracted so far:-
1) Emile Heskey -was stuck at a championship side, not scoring and looking overweight and passed his best. were you one of the fans who couldn’t believe we had bought this donkey at the time. Wigan Athletic did wonders for him.
2) Lee Cattermole – up to his neck in all kinds of off the field trouble and nobody wanted to touch him with a barge pole at the time we got him. Great player but limited ability. Good deal done eventually for us and Sunderland. We may have not seen Diame or Thomas getting their chance if he’d stayed and I think next season these two will be awesome.
3) Mario Melchiot – Looked to be past his best at the time we got him. Had a few run ins with his manager at Birmingham at the time, was a gamble but one thats been worth taking. However, time for him to move back to the championship now, legs have gone!!.
4) Charles N’Zogbia – totally out of form at Newcastle, publicly ridiculed by his then manager Joe Kinear. Looked for all the world a player with loads of ability but king of the sulks. Again Wigan Athletic have done wonders for him and now he is doing wonders for us.
5) Chris Kirkland – the gamble of them all. Mr “Treatment Room” had shown himself to be world class whilst at Coventetry then liverpool but again, which other premiership club would have taken a gamble on him at the time. Yet to convince me he is our future with erratic form and constant injury problems.
There may be others I’ve missed, but this is about as good as it gets for Wigan Athletic for now. Who do you think we can get, a player that is playing regular in the prem for another club?.
Let’s get back into the real world guys and hope that the likes of Matty Fryatt can come in and take the step up to the prem. It’s as much about having a bit of luck as well as the ability.
The boy Fletcher at Burnley looks like he may have found his feet early and I bet the Burnley fans were moaning like fek when Coyle brought him in from struggling Hibs.

What a journey!Id stick with him……..A proven ‘championship’ manager will serve you well next season ;)And what about your proven soup or leek coach?

What a journey!I have to agree with Melchiot. He has had a terrible season and looks like he’s just playing out his time here at the moment. I’ve not once seen him shouting at players either encouraging them or boll-ocking them after a mistake.
Running him close is Kirkland, since Nigel Spink left he has lost all confidence, doesn’t command is box and gets injured getting out of bed. Great shot stopper, but you need more than that in your armoury to be a great goalie.
Jason Scotland despite not scoring yet is nowhere near my list of failures this season. How anyone can call him lazy is beyond me.

What a journey! It isn’t just new players we need at this club. I love to go watching the lads win or lose, its part of being a fan. But what we need is the Wigan Athletic fight back in our team. Like I said i used to love watching them but in all honesty it doesn’t bother me anywhere near as much if I have to miss a match anymore because when we are losing it is like we roll over and die, we need the fight back that we had under Bruce and Jewell, Maybe Martinez should look at that before it turns January as we do have some real quality in our team already in certain positions, certainly individuals who are capable of changing the course of a game. Instill the confidence back into our team and get them actually fighting for Wigan Athletic and for the fans, we deserve at least that, and it’s what they’re paid for. I don’t think there wouldn’t be as much moaning and complaining about us losing if they just showed some effort and passion.I saw passion and fighting for Wigan Atrhletic in abundance, during the second half on Saturday. :o
