Wigan 1 – 0 United :obscene-drinkingdrunk:

I can shed some light on this…
Unfortunately gents, as amusing as the conspiracy theories are, clubs always have either/ or options in place. If they didn’t have, they end up with a week of no football, with all the other clubs on either training camps or playing – and therefore stealing a march on them.
It’s not a case of someone at the club booking a package deal with Thomas Cook. The camp, transport, hotel and flight seats/ private charter will be held, and names are submitted at the last minute (they’re a football team, so they’re allowed to do things like that). If the first team don’t use the flights etc, the Reserves will, or even the Academy.
Nothing more sinister than that I’m afraid, and, a lot of these training camps are sponsored – as destinations like Tenerife and Cyprus are trying to compete with Dubai, La Manga, Portugal etc, so it will cost the club very little or fook all.
Tea Bag, ask your friends from Quay Radio about Pompey’s trips away in years gone by. All were planned for twelve month, but hurridly arranged at the last minute, and at least two (Portugal, Dubai) were fully sponsored.
standish i knew along that what you say was the actual/probable answer to the question i asked – my problem with the whole thing is the management and players also know these facts and the players also would have known that in the general scheme of things the manager was not worried if we lost last night – and that is why the performance was so poor.
all we as fans want, win or loose, is some honest commitment to winning a football game.
when the players/manager treats us with a ‘why bust a gut when we dont want to progress and i will still get my considerable wages anyway’ atitude, it says the people of wigan who bother to turn up and pay hard earned money in the process can go and stuff themselves, and that is nothing short of a disgrace.that is what my problem is with football now in general, not a jolly in some sunnier clime for an bunch of mercenary nomarks, not one person in this whole corrupt, insular, self regulating gravy train, that is proffesional football gives a dam about ordinary fans, and i never ever thought i would include that about my own club.
some say that the club monitor this board i bloody well hope so.
Totally agree with what your saying but most of the lads that played on Wednesday would of given 100% for the fans with the exception of Gomez & Lopez.Redmond and Mustoe were just sitting on the bench. Should have got them on in a straight swap for Gomez & Lopez.
Just bought 60 tickets, anyone interested. :shifty:

Sat in the West stand last night and seemed to have missed all the fun.30 supporters throwing coins you say? Should have took a net, might have made a tidy profit. :animals-chickencatch:
From what I gather there wasn’t much chance of people collecting the money. It was more like :teasing-blah: :angry-boxing: :happy-jumpeveryone: :obscene-drinkingdrunk: :romance-grouphug: :teasing-knob: :violence-instagib:
Everyone make an effort and get down to Robin Park for the Villa match. These youngsters need our support!
Didn’t go last night because of the fact I went to watch the reserves on Tuesday. Was that the only good thing I missed?
I thought he did pretty well tonight and was our MOTM. Pretty bad performance by reserves tonight on a whole though
I’ll start of by saying the population of Wigan compared with the home attendance is the best in the Premier League.
There’s a rugby club in the town, Orrel Rugby Union. Oh, and Wigan Warriors. :?
We are by far the newest club in the Football League and only 2/3 generations have past since we began life in the old 3rd divison – and were ammited to the football league.
With so many well established clubs already in the North West, people in the town already have a club to support unless (like griff) you change team … which not many will do.
We aren’t the most attreactive team to support with us being smashed 9-1, 4-0, 6-0, 4-0, 5-0, 3-0, 8-0, 4-0, 5-0, 4-1 etc….. all under Roberto Martinez. Lets not forget being knocked out the cup by Notts County last season.
Unemployment is hitting the town hard and with so many pubs providing Latics games live it’s hard for the club to get them filling the seats. Also, WishFM have all home and away games on their station.
People that support the Rugby Club 1st off are likely to support a club like Man Utd, Liverpool or Everton because loyalty to both Wigan clubs is hard to come by.
Away support at certain grounds have sparked a bit of talk this season … including Everton (where we took more than Bolton) and Spurs (which we weren’t far off Bolton).
The ‘joy’ of Prem football is fading away and many hardcore fans are starting to drop off waiting for the club to be relegated … then starting following us again.
Ok, there’s my points … i’m ready to be ridiculed. :teasing-knob:
P.S – We took about 400 fans to Arsenal with some not being allowed tickets because the away end was ‘sold out’ Only a few Arsenal fans were in the away area too ….
Have to say, you’ve left yourself wide open, saying we are the newest club in the Football League. Actually, I think that title belongs to STEVENAGE.
Stevenage don’t have better supporters than us though …. not even close. :naughty:We should help them out ;)
Most of us are behind OUR football club, but i’d rather have the foreigners in than extra empty seats.
Like Bolton, they have lots of foreigners … there a town full of them in-fact
He flew in to Wigan last Monday if my sources are correct.
Gotta give him credit for spending all this time, effort and money on Wigan Athletic.
Gotta give him credit for finding an airport in Wigan. That’s a good effort in itself
He could have flown into wigan using a helicopter……..
He could have, yes… I didn’t consider that.
Always expect the unexpected :banana-skier:Cool :geek:
