Just wondering if it is important or not. 7000 tickets sold by the lodgers doesnt make it look that important.
If it is I would just like to wish Warrington all the best.

Where did you get that figure from? Was it just a made-up number that was less than 12500, just to make you sound superior?

There doesn’t seem to be much space available in the East Stand which is the designated Wigan end. Then of course you have those who have bought tickets down the sides:

Someone who appreciates a good performance on the field. I may be corrected by someone who can be arsed trawling through my posting history (35 whatever….!), but I cant recall ever criticising the team. I found it an entertaining game, and that 60 seconds or so between Carson’s amazing save and Powell’s stunning solo goal summed up the highs and lows of a sporting fixture, and the difference between success and failure.

My only beef is with a handful of the people on here who seek to knock everything that Wigan Warriors and their fans do, both on and off the field.

Great result last night, and that 3rd goal was pure quality.

What Myth?.

Wigan RLFC, Every one of the townsfolk who follow the stupid sport supports the Worriers.

Wigan Ath FC.Surrounded and playing in the backyard of 4 of the biggest clubs in Britain who the good people of Wigan traditionally support. Yet despite this on entering the football league in 1978 the average crowds for this year were in the region of

Wigan Athletic 9000

Wigan RLFC 3500

So, what you are saying is that in the last 35 years, Wigan Warriors have more than trebled their average crowd, but Wigan Latics have only managed to increase theirs by 50%, despite moving up at 4 rungs of the football ladder.
You know full what he’s saying.

Wigan RL’s average attendance had dropped by 75% from previous seasons due to their relegation.

So let’s spin it on its head. Has Wigan Athletic’s average attendance dropped by that amount following relegation? Oops. No.

You’re a fickle lot, no?

Keep it coming Mutty. Fish in a barrel springs to mind.
If that was the case then he should have done his research a bit better.

Firstly, Wigan were relegated in 1980, not 1978.

Post relegation, their crowds increased, and continued to rise for 9 successive seasons. Probably their success meant that the disgruntled Latics fans of the mid-80s just went back to watching rugby after the novelty value of soccer wore off.

As far as I can see, they’ve never averaged 3500. The lowest was in 1978, but it was 4505 – that’s a 33% error!

Mutty, Mutty, Mutty, old chap

You really aren’t understanding the principles of fan message boards, in particular this one. So I will explain.

(1) Latics fans posting positive messages about Latics.
Rare on here I know, but fine.

(2) Non-Latics fans posting positive messages about Latics.
Fine, and actually welcome.

(3) Latics fans posting negative messages about Latics.
Disappointing, but acceptable. This is after all a Latics’ fans board. We do not operate the same policy as for example Red & White Kop, which deletes and bans anyone not toeing the “party line”.

(4) Non-Latics fans posting negative messages about Latics.
Not acceptable, in the same way that C&W moderate such things out (and there is sufficient evidence from people here that have tried to do it that it happens frequently). Why should we have to listen to outsiders’ views? See point (3).

(5) Latics fans posting any comments about non-Latics issues (eg rugby league, rugby union, cricket, basketball, baseball or synchronised swimming) . Allowed as long as it’s in the right sub-forum. But don’t expect a flood of replies.

(6) Non-Latics fans posting as in the point above. Likely to get deleted as being not at all relevant to this board.

You are in danger of consistently breaching points (4) and (6).

Taken from the front Page:

“The rules are quite simple, treat other users how you expect them to treat you. Racist and homophobic comments will not be tolerated and niether will defamatory remarks to people on or not on these boards. Please take note that this is an open forum and so the younger element does get on here to read, so please keep the language and images clean. If you have any queries, please email us on editor@cockneylatic.co.uk or click the report buttons on any posts you feel may offend.”

So you have now added a whole heap of rules so that the conversation is controlled, and as long as anyone agrees with your view(ie the constant slagging of Wigan Warriors and their fans), then they are allowed to post.

Freedom of speech is clearly lost on you fella.

Speaking of attendances down 9,35% Mutts

Not much on the box tonight so thought I’d just have a little number crunching session. Last season Wigan had a total home attendance of 208k giving an average of 16,043, which was 1% down on the previous season. 2013 figures are total home gates 189084 giving an average of 14,545, down roughly 9.35%
Wondered why we had not had urgings from the club to break attendance records

Not much on the box, so I worked out what % difference is between 19,359 and 14,663 is. 24.26% less. Makes 9.35% look pretty impressive!

I wonder what would have happened had the chubbies lost

great game only to be spoiled by wigan fans bricking leeds coaches, and smashing windows

Keep ya fans under control mutty

Were those the coaches that were bricked away from the ground, whilst the Wigan supporters were still in the ground saying farewell to Tomkins, Richards & Mossop?

My money is on them being the Latics Brigantes – throwing bricks because they’d run out of stocks of flares.

Would Wurriors wouldn’t take 2,500+ for a midweek night match in Belgium…no chance!

Nor would they only take 134 for a midweek night match in London.

Belgium was a one-off novelty. Lets see if you can pack out the visitors end at Charlton in 4 weeks. At £6 a ticket, you cant blame the prohibitive cost.

That may be because of their moderation policy.

Or it may be that they really dont care…

Are you suggesting that we should do the same?

Because I’m very happy to.

Yes. Why dont you get rid of every anti-rugby thread? The added bonus is that you’d get rid of me, as I only come on here to reply to them!

I don’t know where you get this “myth” from. Your FA Cup win gave you worldwide exposure – nobody doubts that.

However, face facts. Your crowds are likely to average 25% less this season. You’re now a mid-table championship side who barely get a mention on 5 live and feature for about 30 seconds on BBC1 sometime around midnight – long after Hull City, Fulham, Crystal Palace and all those other well-known clubs.

Supporters of Wigan Warriors have often been accused of living in the past – isn’t that what you are doing now?

Now, why don’t you just forget about the rugby team in Wigan – rather like C&W have forgotten there is a soccerball team. I cant remember the last time there was a mention of you on there.

Strange how the article never mentions that last Sunday saw the lowest league attendance at the DW for over 7 years, despite it not being on TV, and being one of the warmest September afternoons for ages.

Come on it’ll be ace watching in the sunshine and it will solve the world cup problem.

Are you sure about that? It seems that 6,000 former Latics fans found something else to do on a sunny day today.

in reply to: Slovenia #120625

My brother went to Slovenia recently. He flew to Venice and then drove, as the cost and timings didn’t work for him. He said it took about 3 hours to reach his destination from Venice airport.

Several low-cost airlines fly to Venice. Ryanair also fly from Stanstead to Trieste (even closer) on Wed 11, returning Friday 14 Dec for around £65 return.

Good luck in finding a cheap way!

A question and I really don’t know the answer to this…Have WAFC players paraded the FA Cup around the pitch at a Warriors home game ? Genuine question ! If the answer is yes then how well were they received and if not, why not ?

The answer is no. The first Warriors home game after the FA Cup Final was 28 Jun, by which time the manager and 7 of your cup final squad had left the club. I guess the remaining players were on their summer holidays by then.

To have the likes of Owen Coil, James Peach and Grant Halt parading the FA Cup round the DW now would look a little silly, seeing as they had no involvement.

However, I think it would be great if both trophies were on display as the teams came out on Friday – if nothing else, it would give the city of Hull something to aspire to!
