I suppose you can only hope that there is something in his contract that allows him to be sacked if found guilty.

Wasn’t Pep the Whinger-in-Chief about too many fixtures? He’s got his wish now, with a guaranteed 5 less games a season. It would have been 6 but Man City will now have to enter the EFL cup a round earlier.

No matter the outcome of our season we should start next season with a new one.

The irony of course is that he is a good League One manager, and just the sort of manager we would be looking for if we go down and get rid of him.
The really hard decision to make would be getting rid of him if we get back into the Championship. Hard to do if he gives a promotion.
    Something of a Catch-22 situation.
The difference between Championship and L1 is probably the biggest around. You have found out twice already that a side who looks very shit in the Championship can piss L1, only to look shit again the following season. If you do go down I suspect you’ll stick with Cook, and only pot him if you are not ripping up L1 next October. If he does get you back up, then he’ll have the job for half of the season to see if he’s learned any lessons.

That Charlton result is an absolute killer, but we should have won last night.

Only as much as the win at Leeds was a killer to them. You’ve both had unexpected away wins at sides that should have put you to the sword, so there is no real damage done. Its about how you deal with the sides that you should get points from. Last night was an opportunity spurned, but as your run-in after WBA isn’t that frightening, it is still about how you deal with sides that have nowt to play for, and sides who are scrapping for survival.

If you were in charge, how would you react to those refereeing decisions including the lino at the south end of the ground giving a goal kick at the north end of the ground?

How should he react at Lowe’s piss-poor attempt at tracking back for Preston’s 2nd goal, where he jogged back watching Johnson stroll into space to pass the ball into the goal?

Or how should he react to the defender who played everyone onside for their first goal by not keeping up with his fellow defenders?

Poor defending cost you the game not the officials.

I think you’ll stay up with room to spare. 8 of the last 10 games are against sides who will either be still around the bottom 3 or with nothing to play for. The advantage you have over Charlton (who IMHO will take the 3rd spot) is that you had the same relegation scrap last season and succeeded, so the players know how to stay up.

The challenge is then how to make sure you don’t repeat the season after. As we both know with disasterous consequences what happens when you are eventually relegated after years of hanging on by your fingernails.

    Good luck!

I can see where he is coming from, but its not just Man City and the premier league sides who field vastly changed teams and could be seen as disrespecting the FA Cup. Reading made 11 changes, Cardiff made 7. WBA made 8 changes. Even Hull City made 4 changes from their previous league game.

Surely a club as MASSIVE as yours would expect to be in the top 2.

    Why?

We’re a 3rd division club with 3rd division players. Our centre midfield is Max “Point then pass it somewhere else” Power and George Dobson, who was relegated with Walsall last season. Our keeper and starting centre forward have never played higher than L1. Our LB and LW are academy products. Our CB’s were signed from Coventry, a Turkish 2nd division club and QPR. Our RB was signed from Wycombe.

We are only MASSIVE in the eyes of those who see us that way – mainly because of our history, honours board and attendances, but none of those count when the game starts. But its nice to see that you think of us that way though.

SSB – You are just a sad troll – grow up.

Clearly in the eyes of JR and Egg, he is still a top class striker, so buy him back then

Clearly you haven’t read my first post in this thread
I did but I chose to ignore your sly dig.
Wasn’t a sly did I was stating a fact, unless you feel your team are pulling up trees having just drawn at home and failing to score against Doncaster?
Your comment about not pulling up trees was made approx noon yesterday. We kicked off at 7:45pm and didn’t finish until almost 9:45pm. Prior to that game we’d won 4 out of 5, scoring 11 and conceding 2. All of it without Grigg.

in reply to: Grigg ? #184319

If he’s that good, why has no club in the entire league come in for him this window?

Its been pretty much shown that he is a League One striker and I would imagine that due to you spending 3m on him that most clubs in that league can’t afford him
I think we’d give him away right now, and most of the fans would pay for the taxi fare. The issue now is he is picking up £10K a week for sitting in the stands and doing the bare minimum in training and seems to rather like being a highly paid seat warmer, hence my comparison to Jack Rodwell. If he really wanted to play football, he’d be on his bike, as he’s not wanted up here. His attitude and style of play does not fit in with the current manager, who wants his players fit and running till the 90th minute.

The reason we are not pulling up trees is because our previous manager had allowed the squad to get unfit – the straw that broke the camels back was a widely shared photo of McGeady & Maguire tucking into a pile of McDonalds. Since that surfaced, Maguire has trained his arse off and is now running for 90 minutes instead of needing to be subbed after 65. McGeady hasn’t featured since and clearly wasn’t interested in knuckling down and getting fit.

Grigg is finished – no fucker wants him.

How we so much for him at the time God only knows. Sunderland were in desperation mode blinkers on

Stuart Donald has admitted that he paid way over the odds as he’d been forced to sell Josh Maja to Bordeaux the week before. With hindsight, keeping Maja and losing him on a free would have been the better option in terms of both on and off the pitch. The £3.5m received for Maja was largely invested in a now worthless Grigg who is reportedly on £10K a week. Maja was reportedly on £600 a week.

However hindsight is a wonderful thing and signing dud strikers is not unique to Sunderland – no doubt DW regrets the day Grant Holt put pen to paper.
