Same as Flores, Chow Cosgrove etc I imagine not kicked on. Good policy ain’t it mutt? Farm out your young talent and bring in loan players whose club then holds a gun at your head. Beltin.
Its ridiculous. I read that Latics were one keeper injury away from having to play an outfield player in goal against Forest in the cup. That’s crap. Dan Lavercombe was warming the bench or the stands until 13 Jan, when he went on loan to Rhyl.
The fact is, someone at the club made a really bad call to sign the Stoke keeper on whatever terms they stated, then signed another keeper at the end of January. If the terms of the loan was that he was to play, why on earth sign Gilks, knowing that he would only get game time in the event of injury?
Whats happened to Jussi? He still features on the squad list – so was he unavailable for those fixtures? Surely a combination of Jussi/Lavercombe as backup to Hauggard would have sufficed, or sign Gilks as No1 and have them as back-ups.
The whole scenario stinks of absolute amateurish dealing and no forward planning – and potentially it could now cost you your place in the division.

For once, you & I agree.
What has become of the keeper signed from Torquay almost 18 months ago? Is he the new Lee Nicholls, destined to spend his entire contract playing for any club other than Wigan Athletic?
6. Why would he want to buy a loss-making stadium?
7. Why would he want to buy a loss-making football club?We need someone who knows League One and how to get out of it, whilst bringing through youth.Nigel Adkins would be an ideal appointment.
This is a reasonable shout. 155 appearances for Wigan. Perhaps he could follow Jewell/Martinez in former players who managed the club to success?
The keeper was an idiot. He had cleared the ball (albeit after faffing about time wasting) – he should just have let it go.Had nobody explained to their keeper that Rotherham were already relegated and playing for a point was literally “pointless”? ;)
Ah, but as the Latics’ away form is much better than their home form, if they’d played the game away at the Warriors’ ground, they’d have a good chance of winni…..
…oh, hang on
All im saying is he pulled the plug, that is a fact, thats why we are in the shit.Im sure the rugby mob are in the same boat because your mate Lenegan invests fuck all in that mob.

If you can be bothered, check out Page 17, Para 20 of the accounts filed for period 30 Nov 15.
The figure he has invested so far is £4,758,241.
Anyway – back on topic, where did it go wrong?
As someone who is experiencing pretty much the same style of car-crash season, I’d say it was down to pre-season. Not giving a chance to those who’d pissed League 1 was criminal. Bombing out key players on loan was bewildering. Not keeping the likes of Huws, who despite being an arrogant twat, would have added to what was a half-decent squad.
Others have suggested that the problem stems from DW. I’d say the Chief Exec has a lot to answer. He is in charge of recruitment and strategy. The buck stops with him.
Sub-consciously have you seen some article about that cross-code rugby challenge that Wigan played Bath in the 90s?
Very funny last night at Leicester to see both sets of fans chanting “You’re getting slapped in the morning”.
No they dont. They are as fickle as any other fans. I remember several times in the early eighties and again in the early nineties Newcastle having crowds in the low teens of thousands with average crowds of 16 to 17 thousand.Nuneaton – you seem to be getting very defensive over something. The facts are that a handful of times 35 years ago, Newcastle half-filled their ground. And as much as it hurts me to say it(!), that doesn’t make their fans fickle!
Considering they haven’t won anything of note during my lifetime, have high ticket prices, and have had a succession of owners who treat them with utter contempt, the fact they still get close to 50,000 every home game is remarkable.
Anyway, go and beat the smelly fuckers on Saturday and give yourselves a chance of hosting a bunch of proper fans from that area next season!
Cracking effort then. Hopefully you can dent their promotion push!
What was the allocation?
Although the JJB was built before Whelan took control at Wigan RL, many of the Wigan RL supporters believe that when Whelan bought their club, he paid off their £4m debts with some of the money received from Tesco, and then kept the remaining £8m – which they claim went towards paying Whelan back for the money he’d invested in the building of the stadium.Prime example here:

Maybe I’m missing something but the only accusation from that link about DW pocketing the surplus cash comes from a user name Chris Southworth, who then uses the phrase “as a fellow Latics mon” to another poster.
Well said. It only matters to those who hold a grudge longer than an Afghan Warlord.
Thankfully the vast majority have accepted that its a dual purpose stadium, owned by a company set up by Mr Whelan for that purpose, and both tenants work together when there are fixture clashes. There was a recent change of a rugby fixture, and I recall Latics bringing a league game at home to Charlton forward to a Friday night so a World Club Challenge game could be played at the weekend.
No big deal really.
Its common knowledge that Jack Robinson was the chief architect in the financial problems that Wigan had. Whelan only became unpopular when he prevented a play-off fixture from taking place not long after he’d sold up.
That said, I did find the latest WAFC annual report interesting. Particularly page 23 – para 20. It seems the Latics have a 25 year lease to play at the DW.
