Unfortunately Sky have a stranglehold on football in this country and that isn’t going to change any time soon.
Oh please, come on! These signings weren’t mercenaries until yesterday at around 5pm!
How many people were complaining when Alcaraz (best defender in the world cup), Boselli, McArthur were brought in?
It’s one game and I’d be surprised if they play even as close to that badly again this season. The fact still remains that a large majority of people living in Wigan actually support Man Utd or Liverpool. If I went up to Blackburn I’d probably see a very different story. The club need to work on turning more heads. Plenty of folk jumped over from United, Liverpool, Everton, I even know one lad who used to support Blackburn (Hiya Paul Ashy ;) ). 250,000 people in the Wigan borough and no other professional football league clubs. Advertisements were up in St Helens and Skelmersdale too and that’s got to be the way forward. This is the biggest league in the biggest sport in the world and with such a large number of people in the borough the club sould be looking at making marketing and community work their priority.
2-2 Boselli double ;)
If you’ve got a season ticket aren’t you counted whether you turn up or not?
Blackpool officially had 4,500 there but to be honest looked like the North was pretty much full.
Whether there are 16,000 or 20,000 on, the most important thing about the Chelsea game is that the lads show some passion and interest in the Latics cause.I genuinely think it’s more of a pro-Blackpool thing than anti-Latics.
If they’d have beaten West Brom, Bolton or Villa today you’d have had the same.Just ‘Came’ on national television, I think. In his preview of MOTD, his elastic-like face and jug-eared disposition saw him gurning out an orgasmic smile as he previewed tonights programme, finishing off with the line:
“….a story to put a smile on your face..” smiling/gurning as if Cheryl Tweedy was secretly chomping away on him, out of camera shot.
BA*TARD! Utter, f***ing, BA*TARD!!!!!!!!
They are all LOVING it, make no mistake. Bloody News At 10 are about to make the most of it as well. FFS! Nobody WANTS us in the Premiership. And frankly, I’m tired of us battling against it.
I genuinely think it’s more of a pro-Blackpool thing than anti-Latics.
If they’d have beaten West Brom, Bolton or Villa today you’d have had the same.Maybe it won’t be the last game on tonight
A few of us were saying today, it’s getting that way where we’d rather see us playing in the lower divisions with a team full of hard working, BRITISH players, rather than have a team of half-hearted mercenaries who are just looking for a bigger-club move.I was absolutely disgusted by that performance today.
I was THAT angry, I actually turned my Iphone, with mobile internet browsing facility off. :(
Not sure about the lower divisions bit ;) but I’m with you all the way with the rest. I’d love to see serious money pumped into the academy set-up, which in the end will save the club millions and reduce the need for these, as you so succinctly put it, mercenaries.
 How old are you flower?
Mercenaries.We have a keeper with a glass-back and a bad shoulder……
A midfielder who can die at anytime……
Only Latics…..I’d love to see some Wiganers in the squad at some time in the future. Even if they weren’t from the town but close by like Billinge, Leyland, Chorley, Skelmersdale, St Helens, Lostock, Warrington it would be welcome.
Apparently not. Maybe the Guardian and the Telegraph etc. meant terrestrial television… maybe they didn’t.
the man who nearly attacked Martinez ?
OR
the man who threw his season ticket and his shirt with Martinez 16 on the pitchWhen was this? He might have one of them walking over the bridge at half time.
Get rid of Figueroa. The lads not interested in Wigan Athletic. Are any of them?
The fact still remains that Wigan didn’t give away any tickets.
If I wanted to be a **** I could slag off everything the rugby are doing and give them no credit.
I haven’t because they have done some great targeted marketing on a selection of games. This is something I hope Latics replicate when the new Chief Executive takes up his position.
Hiding behind technicalities to justify your ‘no free tickets’ stance is a necessity on your part as rugby fans have slated Latics for similar initiatives.
By giving even an inch of ground you’d label a whole host of rugby fans hypocritical. You praised the rugby club for their marketing and it’s true that the Latics could take note and use similar techniques and ideas. I don’t see how this needs to be a rugby vs football thing. Surely the best thing for the town of Wigan would be big crowds for both sports week in, week out.
I’m not hiding behind technicalities when I say that Wigan didn’t give any tickets away. The fact is that the tickets were purchased from the club.
Don’t tar all Wiganers with the same brush when you talk about people knocking the Latics’ initiatives. As I’ve said, I’d much rather see both clubs pulling in big crowds on a regular basis and friends and family have taken advantage of football offers in the past and would do so if there were any more in the future. -
