Salford, if you – and Coyle – don’t know the rules of football, then you cannot expect to understand the referee’s decision.

McManaman jumped at his opponent – that’s a foul. You say he took the ball cleanly, but that’s irrelevant. I can’t put it any more clearly.

It’s up to the referee to decide how severe the punishment should be. Many referees would have agreed with the decision to send him off.

By arguing about the referee’s decision, you’re just encouraging McManaman to do it again. Can’t you see that if he carries on like this, then he’s going to land in very hot water? He isn’t a marked man, but he is going to be penalised for tackles like this.

And if Coyle is foolish enough to appeal, he may well get McManaman a longer suspension. Is that really what you want?

Calm down dear its just a discussion.

You were the one referring this thread to FIFA rule 12 so I suggest you go back and read it properly as it clearly defines when a player should be uncautioned, yellow carded or red carded instead of repeating yourself about what a foul is when we are discussing if it was a red card not a foul.

Do you really think Mcmanaman will be influenced by what I say on here? Really?!?

Tyldsley while I do think you talk tosh most of the time I do have to respect your refereeing opinions as you are clearly more qualified than me to comment on the subject.

I just cant see how Mcmanman’s tackle is any more dangerous than any of the tackles in my previous clip.

I am led to believe it becomes a red card once the player has been deemed to have used excessive force? I don’t think that is the case with his tackle as any less force and he wouldn’t have won the ball in the clean manner he did and would of probably clattered the player good and proper.

Overall the timing of the tackle was very impressive.

[quote=”salford_latic44″ post=117591I am not quite sure jumping at an opponent is a foul but I will give you the benefit of the doubt with your wording.

As to your carelessly, recklessly or excessive force criteria I don’t think it was any of those.

It was a brilliant perfectly timed one footed tackle! nothing dangerous about it and I would be devastated if our players were not committed enough to try and win the ball back in such a manner!

It’s not my wording – it’s from FIFA Rule 12 Fouls and Misconduct. And so are the criteria.

McManaman landed with both feet in front of him – like an Olympic long jumper. He caught the ball with his right foot and Pittman with his left foot.

He jumped at his opponent! It’s irrelevant whether the tackle was perfectly timed or not.

And Coyle was hardly an impartial observer. He should support his squad, but this makes him look ridiculous. Perhaps he will look at it again, but dispassionately this time.

There’s very little more to say.
So which of three do you consider the tackle to be ? Careless, wreckless or excesive force?

    in reply to: shocking #119497

Here is a collection of some cracking slide tackles all of which can be deemed far more dangerous than Mcmanman’s.

    in reply to: shocking #119496

He jumped in with BOTH feet off the ground, which in today’s money is deemed reckless and deserving of a red card, regardless of whether he played the ball or not.

How does one “jump in” with one foot on the ground?
Both feet are clearly OFF the ground. There’s no doubt – it’s a jump!
Correct.

I was asking how does one avoid the necessary action of taking your feet of the ground as to create the momentum required to slide in for a tackle?

I look forward to our players moon walking into tackles from now on.

Jumping at an opponent is a foul!

    If a player jumps at an opponent, the referee must consider how it was done. Whether the player gets the ball is not a consideration. If it was done;

carelessly, then a free kick shall be awarded and no further sanction is required
recklessly, then the player shall be cautioned
with excessive force, then the player shall be sent off.

The referee had to choose between careless, reckless and with excessive force. Yesterday, he chose with excessive force. I don’t see any grounds for appeal.

I don’t know what footage you have been watching Salford but there was no slithering across the ground.

The footage I mentioned previously that can be found on the football league show via iplayer.

Exactly my point how does one slither across the ground to make a tackle?

He jumped in with BOTH feet off the ground, which in today’s money is deemed reckless and deserving of a red card, regardless of whether he played the ball or not.

How does one “jump in” with one foot on the ground?

I will be amazed if the club appeals that. There is no way that will be rescinded.

Back to the football league show where Coyle has already said he will appeal it.

in reply to: Coyle Out ! #119469

Off the pitch I think he has been great but there are certainly things I don’t agree with after yesterday.

That is going forward anyway and to be fair to Coyle defensively I cant have too many complaints.

Very early days and he is learning just like the players.

You can always count on Arsenal fans to see their arse!

Think they have a right to be at the top.

    in reply to: shocking #119467

What should he have done differently ? slithered across the ground to make the tackle? Surely every tackle starts somewhere off the ground?

It certainly wasn’t a high tackle! it would have been lucky to hit him in the bottom of his shin! it was a sufficient move to take the player from his starting position to one where he can cleanly take the ball without causing any danger to said play whatsoever!

What more can you ask than that?

That same tackle is made by full backs up and down the country every week!

How anyone can watch the replay back and say it was an automatic red is simply laughable!

We will see what the FA think of it when we appeal it.

I am confident it will be rescinded off what I have seen but if I had a penny for every time I have said that I could buy a packet of crisp so we will see.

    in reply to: shocking #119464

Not quite sure about his foot being in mid air as the ball was on the ground which he cleanly took.

No danger to the player whatsoever.

Are we now saying all sliding tackles must be made by a player sliding along the floor through some sort of magical mechanics?

The game may have changed but this highlights it is not for the better when a player cant make a dedicated challenge, win a ball cleanly without people talking about it as if he could of decapitated him or something.

    Dangerous play my arse.

The replay from the linesman’s view who incidentally didn’t call the foul is the clearest and available on iplayer

    in reply to: shocking #119458

And to add to that I cant think why anyone other than Maloney should take our corners.

    in reply to: shocking #119457

I am not sure what planet some of you live on but on planet earth that was never a red card.

Anyone unsure of that can check the replay on the football league show on bbc iplayer clearly showing Mcmanman winning the ball with next to no contact on the player whatsoever.

I thought the reaction of the players and Bournemouth bench was a disgrace.

Firstly I think you have to say while Bournemouth did what they set out to do we should of made it a lot harder for them.

Brilliant penalty save by Carson but I lost count of the amount of times his goal kicks ended up with a Bournemouth player.

He can kick them out all day long but if its not finding anyone in blue and coming back at us then what is the point? We should play it out from the back and move it into the middle of the park where we have strength in numbers.

Grant Holt is getting a lot of balls in the air but he is a far cry from Heskey in terms of being a target man in that situation although to be fair to him he looked out there on his own half the time.

I would love to see the likes of Gomez playing just behind him.

The less said about Perch’s back pass the better.

I think Maloney is wasted on the right and has always looked best for us either on the left of a front three or with a free role to float about around the box.

All in all there was very little creativity yesterday but it is very early doors and no need to push the panic button.

    in reply to: Rumour #119455

If he is available for £3 million it would make more sense for Martinez to take him on at Everton where he knows he can put him in a position that gets the best out of him and match his wages rather than him dropping a division, probably having Coyle play him on the left side and taking a 40K a week pay cut.

I dont know if I will go as far as carterlatics but I am fairly sure nothing will come of this rumour.

    in reply to: :) #119377

Someone has been sucking on lemons…

I remember an Oldham fan I was speaking to when we got promoted to the PL telling me he supports the real latics and patronising the sheet out of my ear saying enjoy it will only last a year like there’s did.

I’d love to see that guy again who has probably threw his season ticket in the bin by now to tell him how much I enjoyed 8 years in the top league in the world, qualifying for Europe and winning a major piece of silverware upon our exit while Oldham have piddled around doing absolutely nothing noteworthy for the past decade.
