The managers prerogative doesn’t necessarily mean that a player is of a certain standard, it is merely just an opinion ! Gomez has put in a couple of decent shifts so far this season but IMO he is no World beater ! Watson on the other hand gives me cause for concern and it beggars belief that he gets on the team sheet let alone the starting 11 !!
What would you do differently?
He does take the odd touch or two too many, but I personally think he could be a decent player but in a better team where the players around him offer more options and create more space for him.

If he was capable of playing for a “better” side then he would be doing. He’s not a spring chicken & he’s not exactly unknown if managers of better sides thought he was capable of doing what you say then they’d have signed him in my opinion

I think football is rife with Pundits, Journalists and Fans who seem to say things because they heard them elsewhere or just for the sake of being heard.
One thing that makes my blood boil is reading some pap article on Newsnow and it being factually wrong!
Manchester Evening News had our highest rated player for the Fulham game as Watson with a 7!!! What game were they watching?
I think its a case of Little Wigan nobody cares when it comes to journalism but our own “fans” have no excuse.
I divide our fans into 2 categories.
Category A : Well reasoned fans who want the team to do well but are more than aware of where we come from and even just surving each season by the skin of our teeth should be something to be thankful for!
Category B : Unreasonable fans who think we by right should be competing with teams that make more selling shirts than we have in gross income and have probably only been supporting Wigan post premiership promotion.
I know which category will still be there if we start plummeting down the leagues.
If you had said something along the lines of Di Santo out Boselli in before the game I would have agreed with you Hindley…
But in hindsight we didnt make enough of our crosses or corners to utilise the lad properly.
Its a bit of a strange one as the front three seem switch positions a lot this season but I think that works best when Di Santo is in the team and can move into different spaces to receive the ball as our target man
In hindsight I may have played Mcmanaman and Crusat either side of Kone but unfortunately Martinez does not have that luxury :(

I also think Gomez had a decent game but Watson ? What does RM see in him ? Every man and his dog can see that the lad is clearly out of his depth but he still persists with him ! The last 2 home games have been below par in my opinion and we should have had at least four points from them and not just the one. The likes of Stoke, Fulham and other sides of that ilk at home should be our steady supply of all important survival points ! Good job Southampton were slow out of the traps !I think Mcarthur is probably still not 100% over his back injury hence Watson in the team.
You could play Gomez there but like you and others I thought he had a decent game almost bagging a goal.
Maloney didnt do much for me at all and it will be interesting to see how the 2nd string get on in the Wet Spam game tomorrow.
Another performance like the one in the previous round and we will have some serious contention for places on our hands!!
Young Fyvie is yet to make an impression and is probably seen as Watson’s replacement (cant see him signing a new contract) so hopefully he can get a bit of game time under his belt.

None the less the peace must be kept and it is down to Garswood and the other mods to decide when lines have been crossed.

A little banter never hurt anyone.
The bans should be saved for people who deserve it e.g. racist, abusive or illegal content etc.
If someone is becoming particularly and intentionally disruptive i.e. ruining threads – then fair enough.
But don’t shoot the lad for being stupid & annoying
Any Gomez bashing this season is not due in my opinion as he has had a fairly good start and is one of the more calming influences in the team.
If I had to pick a major criticism from yesterday it was the corners.
There has to be someone in the team who can kick a ball into the area!!!
It does not have to be whipped in at 100 mph or curled onto someones head at the near post!
Just hit so it drops into the box just far enough so the keeper does not come out for it.
Simples.
All in all its not been a bad start plenty of teams looking worse than us this season who will hopefully prop us up for a nice mid table finish.
