I totally oppose the idea of 7 or 8, or even 9 or 10 year olds being “signed up” by anyone.
Let them play football for God’s sake.
Let them dribble, shoot, and everything else that age does when playing football naturally with their mates. Far far far too young to be “Centre of Excellence”

Just seen on MOTD, and of course that never tells the whole story, but from what I could see it’s nothing to do with tactics, formations or whatever – it’s just that the players were too slow and flat-footed.

Saw Liverpool well beaten by Crvena Zvezda at Anfield in 1972.
Always liked the mystery of those teams – Dynamo Dresden, Dynamo Berlin, Ferencvaros, Dukla Praha. One of the first games I remember seeing live on TV (VERY rare then) was in grainy black and white from White Hart Lane of Spurs against Gornik Zabrze.
Was in Warsaw not long after the Poland national team had done well in the 1974 World Cup – Deyna and co. Good sense of national pride.
