Get real what ever happened to the customer being right so would you say the club is going in the right direction.and dont give us the big time we wouldnt have a team only for whelan the club was here well before whelan and so was some of our fans or is it tinted glasses kaper again

Get real? This is real.

The club is going in the right direction to survive, and not drop like a debt burdened stone. If you are talking about staying in the Premier League, then if I’m honest, I don’t know. We’ll see in May. I’m not a coach, and I’ve never played professional football. If it is, it is. If not, I’ll still be in my seat next season.

In answer, yes, the customer has the right to question the quality of the goods purchased. If it was a shop, you can question what you have bought, and if you are not happy, get a refund and don’t return there again. You do not have the right to question the owner on the financial operations of his business.

So there’s the reality bit. Football clubs are businesses, and you are a customer, not an interested partner.
I’m not in any way, saying you are wrong. But if that’s the case, then perhaps it’s time to find something new to be interested in. Christ, whatever happened to the ‘beautiful game’?
All those years of watching us slogging it out in the lower leagues, then a majestic rise, only to be confounded by the horror that is the reality of the ‘Premier League’, which in fact, is nothing but a qualifying tournament for the money spinning turd that is the Champions League. Ha! Champions League. That’s why the top 4 sides qualify.

Or is it just all about more money?

Our game is imploding before our eyes, and where it will stop, I don’t know. Probably the powers that be coming out and saying that a European Super League is the only financial option. Hey come on, how long will it be before it happens?

Getting ever nearer to walking away. I missed Boxing Day through lack of desire/interest, call it what you will. Prior to that, I’d only missed 7 homes since 1986.
Dave,

That’s the reality of it these days, unless you are watching Chorley and the such like.

You leave, and somone else takes your season ticket.

I love football, and if there wasn’t a Wigan Athletic, I’d go and watch Charnock Richard etc every week.

But as it is, I’m from Wigan, and there is a Wigan team playing in national leagues each week, so that’s who I’ll go and watch.

in reply to: Hull #16645

We wont beat Hull ! It will be a draw !! More money that I wont be wasting !! I pay enough for a season ticket ( Value for money based ! ) without shelling out on watching more rubbish ! Because yes I have become one disgruntled customer and the customer is always right !!

customer?????? not a supporter then
It’s the same thing threse days my friend. Do you honestly think you are anything more?

in reply to: Do You Remember What This Man Did ? #16644
Maybe the Wigan public also need to invest in Wigan Athletic.

Sammy’s comment is the most valid on this thread.

The Wigan public do need to invest in a massive way, and that is the crux of the problem.

Wigmon,

(repeat link posting number 37)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009 … eague-debt

Many will say it is all lies as it’s not from the Observer, but I’ll post the highlights here:

Accounts for the year to 31 May 2008
Turnover £43m (up from 27m the previous year, an increase of 59.2%)
Wage bill £38.4m (up from £27.5m the previous year, an increase of 39.6%)
Wages as proportion of turnover 89%
Loss before tax £11.2m
Debts £66.4m
Interest payable £1.7m

TV money per season is £30-£35 million for a club like Wigan. Some people on this forum have stated it is £60 million, because Burnley have said they would get £60 million for being promoted. The people who have posted in the past are the same people whose idea of a financial dilemma is if they need to try and save a quid to get a can of Fanta with their kebab.

Yes they will get £30-£35 million from TV / Prize money, and a guaranteed £30-£35 million price money for the following season if they stay up, or, £25 million parachute payment if they are relegated. There you go – at least £60 million guaranteed whatever the eventuality.

In summary: there is no money, and we have merely the pot we p*ss in.

Horc, I personally think there will be no further investment – in fact, I’m certain of it. He isn’t getting any younger, so he wants to get his house in order.

He family will be looked after, which you cannot fault the man for that, and he is trying to leave the club debt free and owners of their own stadium.

I honestly cannot imagine who would buy us once Whelan has gone and that is the worrying bit. There’s isn’t enough money that could be left in the club to sustain it for life, and we’re hardly a sought after commodity are we?

in reply to: Lawrenson on Radio 5 #16631
has anyone ever listened to anything mark lawrenson has said before?
watch match of the day next week, he doesnt say anything that resembles fact.

Yes, I have.

Whatever your opinion, he has played at a higher level of football than you or I.

Would you expect to know more than Mark Lawrenson about your chosen profession? Yes.

But, I suppose everyone who has watched football is a football expert. I one watched a bloke on TV do neurosurgery. Piece of p*ss.

in reply to: Lawrenson on Radio 5 #16629
Don’t normally agree with Lawrenson on Radio 5 but just said “Wigan… wandering about… no problem… get me wages at the end of the week”.

What other staff in Dave Whelan’s Empire have ever been able to do that or have that said about them…?

You need to ask Bickymon about that.

in reply to: Do You Remember What This Man Did ? #16627

Dave Whelan the asset stripper. Are people now smelling the coffee?!

A good mate of mine said thats why steve bruce left .he smelt a rat and then told mr whelan im no prisioner .be seein .ya i didnt believe him .but it make.s you wonder . at the moment he.wants to sort his club out or our club out its a laughing stock and a shambles and not just on the pitch we are the supporters we should know what going on .not left in the dark
Why should you know what is going on? Do you have shares in the club?

If you owned a pie shop, would you expect to answer financial questions posed by a bloke who comes in to buy a meat and potato and a cream slice every Saturday?

It’s a business sir, not a public service.

Gents

Whilst it is correct that Jack Walker was a true fan of Blackburn (and a gentleman to boot according to my father who was a director of a Blackburn company for thirty odd years), and Whelan probably invested in Wigan Athletic for egotistical or business reasons, Walker’s legacy to Blackburn is not an ongoing fairytale.

Bear in mind that nobody envisaged the future meteoric rise of the English game back in the early nineties. The average player’s salary is now over £1 million, and Blackburn’s English record of £6 million (Sutton) for a player is small change these days. That can’t exactly be attributed to inflation.

Sorry for posting a link but..according to the Guardian link below, Walker spent £97 million of his own money on Rovers. Whelan has spent at least £60 million of his own money which isn’t bad for a non-fan.

You’ll also see in the article that Walker’s funding has now run out.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008 … blackburn1

Whelan, the man is a toad. Whelan the football club chairman however, is the reason the club is in the Premier League – no matter which way you look at it. Who else would have invested that amount of money in Wigan Athletic at the time?

It’s not a case of rose tinted glasses; it’s appreciation. Until I win the Euro Lottery rollover jackpot four times and have sufficient money to buy the club and bankroll it, I’ll be thankful of Whelan.

If he did sell up, and take as much money as he could with him, could you blame him? I bet his office has not exactly been inundated with letters of gratitude over recent years.

I entered a biggest willy comp once and won a trophy….It was the Walnut Whip award ! Much sought after I was told !!

You never see them these days do you? Sought after indeed.

in reply to: How much do you think we’ll spend? #16563
Or, more importantly, how much will Whelan pocket from sales???

I honestly think we’ll spend about £300k on a striker from Morton and get a right back on loan from Doncaster.

Can you name these players?

in reply to: IF WE SACK HIM #16561
Borrocks thirtytwoyears….we are way off that.

All we ask is to spend some of the money we make from players. Instead of it all disappearing.

Yick, I hear what you’re saying, but the money is being ploughed back into the club, paying wages, servicing debts, filling gaps from last year’s budget etc. It disappears into a big black hole. Clubs are trying to get debt free before the lights get switched on, and even after that, we won’t exactly be flush.

Look at Portsmouth or Hull. It’s far too easy to enter a big willy contest, but if you haven’t got the tackle, you’ll end up looking silly.

in reply to: IF WE SACK HIM #16555
remeber when bruce come to wigan 1st he got shut ov the dead wood trouble makers then fooked off but never stayed for the new season.RM is doing that now but here for who no s with whelan but if he not get the chop get rid ov the shyte we have and sign good players he will do well for the club.

Is English your first language?

in reply to: hendry thomas’s reaction #16549
A lot of the fans on here still idolize RM from his playing days and just like the chairman they are putting their heart before their brain !! I wasn’t around when he played so I am half neutral ! What I can see is he is bereft of ideas as a manager and clearly not ready to manage a Premiership side !

I am one of those people, and have admitted that before. Martinez was a hero of mine as a player, and still will be whatever happens.

Disagree that he’s bereft of ideas. I tend to think the ideas that have worked in lower leagues for him, have not paid off at this level, and it is proving more difficult than he imagined.

It’s too late to get a new manager in now, so February is the time is make a final judgement for the season.
