In fear of starting a ‘debate’, do people genuinely believe that this country could have kept a mining industry, paid the miners what the unions were demanding, keep prices competitive with China and other emerging nations AND turned a profit from it?

Just asking because a lot of people seem to be blaming her for the demise of the industry.

                    1. Was it not a deteriorating sector that had it’s end coming long before Thatcher got to power?

                    2. Is it not a good thing that we don’t send our kids down the mines anymore?

I’m far from a Thatcherite, I disagree with the way in which she went about getting quite a lot of things, not to mention the poll tax. I just refuse to buy into this hate campaign created by the extreme left wing.

Take a look at your life and your house at this moment in time. Would you be able to afford your current lifestyle if things hadn’t have changed?

                    Bring on the controversy! :P

40 minutes and still no responses coming your way. Either, the responses are so long and hate filled that they’re taking a long time to write, or … they’re all just gathering down the end of your road.
Bollox she sent families all over the country into generations of unemployment but it wasn’t an upturn in the economy that put food on the tables was it.

Correct the miners especially in pit villages worked in the pits for generations to turn them from miners into for example into a call center worker is one hell of a turn around especially with the industrial language accepted in heavy industry that alone put hundreds of thosands on the scrap heap for years

I can just about afford it if it wasn’t for the privatization of gas, electric, water, trains, buses I may be a lot better off

It was I suppose a dereriorating sector but plenty mines had huge reserves of coal for example Bickershaw Colliery still has 29 million tonnes of coal under neath the site the problem was getting at it and getting out investment was the key something the tory government at the time were not prepared to do

The second part of your question was outlawed after the second world war might have been earlier not got a clue why you would think that kids still went down the mine in the 70’s and 80’s

REALLY down to earth. Unlike you i don’t just judge people on a forum. I have a brain which means i can tell that people may just have a bit more to them. You on the other hand are just thick and EVERYONE can see it.

Did I mention you are calm and collected as well.

Sarcasm aside your above post contradicts itself and the fact you think you are clever.
Oh dear, A little tiff months ago and you just can’t let it go. You are a one man army at the minute pal. Can’t you see that the board is getting on together at the mo. Even me and one of my oldest foes ‘thty’ are in agreement.

Why do you have to be a cock.

Oh and your post falls down when you mention my temperament, I don’t PM you vile and abusive messages do i? Eh!

If i disagree with an opinion i will say so. I don’t need to hide behind a keyboard to impress people. You get what you get with me mon. Said it a million times. HONESTY! Nothing to do with being fickle, Although i believe we all have a bit of fickleness inside of us, We must have when it comes to football. Just be individual. You don’t have to be a sheep.
