The way we were set up yesterday was completely wrong for a team like Arsenal. We never had an out ball when we were defending. The tactics were clearly to soak up pressure and break quickly when we won the ball. Our issue was we had Sammon following Santos down the left hand side of Arsenals defence. So when we did win the ball we had no one in Arsenals half to fight for the ball and they had wave after wave of attack. I think Martinez wanted to play Gomez because of his good performances in the past 2 games and could not rely on him tracking Santos.
We have to learn to be more adaptable in certain games. We needed to play 2 wingers and a striker yesterday in a 451 formation (unlikely we will play 442.)
To be fair we had settled well into the game for the first 10-15 mins and Arsenal were not causing us a huge threat. THe mistake from Al Habsi changed that with the two quick goals killing us off.
I was told something a long those lines by a Blackburn fan who is on the same course as me at university. He also included details of what happened in the deal relating to Phil Jones.
Wow… how anyone can say Martinez is our worst manager is unbelievable. How he is spoken of in the same light as some of the other managers names given is a joke. We are in the Premier League for a kick off playing against the best teams in the country!
…or it could be the turning point in our season! There wasnt many of us at Newcaastle but the majority, apart from someone walking out of the ground i heard blaming Martinez for the goal believed we played some great stuff. I think it will be a tense affair but we will nick the 3
Lukaku would have been a good loan signing. I think he will only be on loan until January until Chelsea are hit with some withdrawls to the Africa Cup of Nations. Like to see us make a loan move for their young midfielder McEachran. Has a promising future and when Diame goes to the Africa Cup of Nations would provide cover for the central midfield area.
