Always the feeling watching the game last night that Reading were playing below themselves but still enough to come away with 3 points. slightly more intent early on but again undone by dreadful defending and lightweight attacking and looking at the upcoming fixtures I really fear the worst now. Not sure this bunch are up for the fight and I fear league 2 is a very real possibility now. All the fast talk and spin we have had this season doesn’t hide the fact that this is a very very poor bunch of players , league 2 level at best. Loan FC with sticking plaster mentality on the pitch of the like we have not seen since the early 1990s. Shit show of a club
Fully agree. I can’t see where we are going to pick points up from. The similarities with 1993 are very apparent. We have a caretaker boss in and a team full of has beens and never will bes. Absolutely no value in this squad. Even Tickle…be lucky to get a million for him now. And dont be deluded, its going to be a massive rebuild again and it could well be as a League 2 club. Theyve penny pinched and been frugal, and its gonna come back and bite us. If theyd thrown 3 million at it I think we could have signed maybe 5 players at around 500k apiece. That would have given us a backbone and almost guaranteed the play offs. But they didnt.. now theyre going to have to throw some money at it, at least 5 million…maybe more, because we will need about 15 players at least. We can’t do it with freebies and loans. Look where its got us? Absolute shitshow.

I agree with you. Some of our support is badly deluded. Not unti the supporters club coaches are picking up for Barnet and Grimsby away will some people realise how bad things are. Honest opinion as well? They may get even worse. This is a god awful squad and even one of the top coaches in world football would be scratching their heads. Never mind some lower league journeyman or a young manager who learned his trade playing Football Manager PC game. (Is this a bloody reality TV show experiment?l

what has gone on with Kerr? Seems strange hes straight back in the side after Lowe has gone. Some strange things going on. Its shambolic.
Fact is simple. We ship goals for fun…and we dont score enough. When you do that, no matter if you are Premier League, Isthmian League, Kent County Premier, or Wigan Sunday League, you will only be at the wrong end of the table. Its not scientific, its just basic maths.

I think we DO need an experienced manager. One with good links and connections as come the summer, we will need to bring in 15….yes FIFTEEN players. So we need someone with plenty of links, contacts and friends in the game. Baines would be like a rabbit in the headlights at this club. Not saying he’s not a good coach, but not for us at the moment in time.
Wellens? Yes. Coleman? Yes. Even Doolan and Brannan from Accrington. I do not want Karl Robinson from Salford. Going off their Netflix documentary, he could be another Lowe.
It will be very interesting to see who throws their hat in the ring. But whoever gets it will need some backing. To bring 15 players in…and thats no exaggeration, you need a minimum of 25/26 players (ideally about 34) for the season ahead. We will have about 10 contracted players come the summer. We can’t do it all on freebies and loans. We will actually have to spend some money, whether we are in Leage One, or Two.

Mick McCarthy? I like him. Very honest. Id have Neil Warnock, but would he come? Not sure. An outside of the box name I will throw in is Damien Duff. Highly rated, did well at Shelbourne and in Ireland set up. Not sure what managers in Scotland are like. And have to remember we are League One and could possibly be League 2…hopefully not.

I agree fully. Some would struggle in non league. You can see why the loan players have been surplus to requirements at their parent clubs. The state of them today, about 4 or 5 kicking away at the ball when it ended up with Lisbie for his hat trick. There were people in the away end who could’ve done better.
We will find out eventually about the behind the scenes goings on, fall outs and things. Maybe ye has lost the dressing room?
But ultimately I do think the current squad is very poor. Even Tickle has lost his way. There are still people who think we will sell him for 10 million this summer. We will be lucky to get 1 million. Especially if we become a league 2 club.

Lowe HAS to go, surely? I can’t wait for all the stories and sub plots to come out about what’s actually gone on in the club. Its a soap opera in itself.

I will be happy now if we get to the deadline and still have Tickle. Although from what I have heard about how he was at the end of the game, things might be moving behind the scenes. Someone said to me he looked like he was waving goodbye. I got off on 87 so I dont know.

Lowe has made a lot of mistakes, and at any other club would’ve been sacked weeks ago. But this is Latics, and we never do things normal.
Its not just Lowe, it’s the powers above him. Ive no doubt he has been short changed in the financial backing he has received. Hes trying to paint a Constable painting, with Crayons. Borrowed Crayons at that. For that I do feel sorry for him. Eventually we will hear the truth. The same thing happened to Maloney and unless our next manager is a really strong character, it will likely happen again.
I didnt shout any abuse. And I got behind the team…as much as I could get behind them. But by christ, theyre shite. Its a really shite bunch of players in this squad. More fight in a wet rag. Given we have an owner with wealth, its the worst squad we’ve ever had. .
I DO care. And it is affecting me. Yes, its getting me down. I’m going to Arsenal…with no hope or expectation. Its just a trip out to the current top team in Europe. No more, no less. I am not going to the next 2 home games, just having a break from it. Its the whole atmosphere around yhe club, the negativity, some people revelling in it all a little bit too much. Its as much that as it is how shit we are on the pitch and whatever failings our manager has.
Does our manager set out for us to play shite and lose games? No, he bloody well doesn’t. I can guarantee that. Do the players go out on the pitch to play shit and lose? No chance. Nobody could convince me of that. You go on a pitch to win, its as simple as that. No professional football manager or players go outt to lose. Unless its some dodgy South American thing where there’s match fixing and shite like that going on. (Or Italians)
So to see the players and manager get continuously hammered….its really getting to me. Maybe they are trying their best but just aren’t good enough. I think its a mixture of that and tjem being set up to play a system that doesn’t work with them. So partly the players, partly the manager. But I can guarantee you that NONE of them go out to deliberately lose a game and fail. I mean, even Sunday League players this morning will go out to win their game. Thats football. This bunch of players, or most of them, also failed under Maloney. So thats quite telling in itself. Yes, we have spent a little bit of money. But I think this squad, if it had about 3 million spent on it, would have been top of the league. The standard of the league is largely shocking. If we had spent 3 million on a CB, RWB, LWB, CM and a Striker, I think we would be where Cardiff and Lincoln are. I really do. All season its been a case of Lowe having to use round pegs in square holes, so to speak. I’m not saying he is blameless, but hes been eworking with shit tools to get the job done. Where I think he comes unstuck is his after match comments. Is he TOO open and honest? Maybe. He is getting character assassinated of late though, and its no good.
Rioch getting slaughtered over recruitment, and it turns out he is not the head of recruitment. Joe Riley…whoever he is…is. Well, is out recruitment so poor because of the constraints of the board and owner? Because they are playing a very dangerous gamble with out current predicament. If you buy a club, you are going to have to invest some money. If they had done, we could be looking towards promotion now. And ok, people then say you need to then spend more, but you also get money for going up, and would get more income from bigger attendances. ‘Speculate to Accumulate’, they say. Thats how it works. Yet they’ve gambled on Lowe working absolute miracles with borrowed waifs and strays.
I can’t wait for the fans forum. Give me the mic and whilst I dont want to gwt into a slanging match with the club, I will come prepared and ready to voice what Ive said above. The gamble they have done has failed massively and it could get even worse yet. But I bet the forum gets cancelled or postponed. I think they have used it to buy them some time. Gambling once again, that this bunch of players will suddenly pick up and hit a run of form. I can’t see that happening, can you? No hope at all that we will suddenly hit a winning run.
2 things.
1. What happens tomorrow if we are 2 down within 20 mins and looking as lacklustre as we have for weeks? Toxic won’t be the word. The already predicted poor attendance will suddenly get even less.
And
2. If the above happens, the owner/board/club have backed themselves into a corner saying they ‘100% back Lowe’. Given our recent performances, and the fact we are playing the 2nd in the table, thats a bloody massive gamble. Don’t you think? Say we get beat 4 nil and are as useless as we have been…do they turn a blind eye and still play the same tune? Or will that suddenly make them think “oh shit…”
And if that happens, the atmosphere will be beyond toxic. Its so naive what they’ve done. The best they could’ve hoped for was to not commit until after tomorrow. Then, if we play ok and get anything of a positive resulr, they could have then come out with the declaration of backing Lowe. Or, if we get thumped 5 nil, they’d have then had the room and more just cause to pot Lowe. I think they’ve been massively naive. Especially Rioch.

I have come to the conclusion we have a bad bunch of players. They aren’t arsed one bit.

Not one yellow card at Wycombe. A team losing 2 nil and not one of the players even goes in a bit robust to earn a yellow. And not one player protested at the penalty decision. Honestly, we’re soft as shite and got no leaders.
Crowd on Saturday? Lower than 6000 I reckon.
The clubs arrogance towards the supporters has shocked me and disappointed me in equal measure. Really disappointed me.

I never thought this guy would come in and be as bad or as worse as Kolo and Joyce.
But it’s happened.
And to think this guy was loitering in the stands for weeks, waiting for Maloney to be booted, with his friend pulling strings inside as well. There’s no doubt Lowe knew what he was coming into. Unless the owners promised him more backing and then didn’t deliver. Something has gone on behind the scenes, I’m sure of it. Lowe’s rant soon after the Bolton game where he said “fans have got to realise these aren’t the days of Cook, Richardson, or Martinez. We’re a million miles away from then”. I put that down to the backing he was being offered and that he was frustrated. He’s never been the same since that and its almost as if he has been waiting to get the chop recently. Thats how its felt and how he’s come across. Apart from Preston when the performance actually made a mockery of the awful performances before and since that night.
The inevitable HAS to happen now. If it doesn’t, its going to be bloody toxic on Saturday and shows the owners haven’t got a bloody clue.
