I’ve heard Taylors wages are £9200 per week. That’s far too much for us.
But then we are paying McManaman a wage, where it could be better used. I am angry that we sold Tickle and got some money from Bettoni, and Devine, and yet GC told we still had to lose players to bring in. Crazy. Everyone would’ve been very happy if they had said “right, from those deals, we can give Gary 2 million”. We’d all have been made up with that. Enough for 4, maybe 5 solid signings. Our squad of 20 is too small. Need 26 players minimum. Anything smaller, is not enough. We have 46 league games, at least 1 FA Cup, at least 1 League Cup, and that BSM trophy as well. Over 50 games with a 20 man squad is stupid.
I think it’s disgraceful that we’ve sold Tickle, our last asset of any value, and it’s now being said the money will go towards wages. I just feel they’re absolutely running us into the ground.
I dont think Max Power realised just how shit we are. He is learning fast!
One thing I would say is, if by some miracle GC has some money given to him after the Tickle sale and the Bettoni deal, is that we should NOT blow it on Joe Taylor. If by any miracle GC has, say, 1.5 million to play with, Id look at getting in 4 players with that money.

4 additions at 300-400k would, for me, possibly make the difference from a relegation slog, to Play-Off contenders. That injection of quality is what we need.

But what REALLY is the attraction?Surely Caldwell can’t honestly believe the squad we have is anywhere near good enough? There’s nothing to it. No keeper, shirt on centre backs, midfield and seriously going to lack goals. I honestly see nothing other than a struggle and maybe even a season like Port Vale had last season. Rooted to the bottom of the league all season.
What gets me though is if results are poor, eventually the manager loses his job. Its always the case. I am please we have GC back, but he needs backing. Unless there is a late flurry in the transfer market, I think Latics are buggered. Can’t wait to see the attendance of first home game as I believe loads haven’t renewed. The fact they’ve been ringing people to ask why you haven’t renewed? shows how bad it is.

Ive been quite disappointed by Tickle recently as well. I get the feeling his heart isnt in it anymore. Not even diving and at times his positioning is shocking. I know part of it will be down to having the chuckle brothers in front of him.
Its going to be touch and go whether we stat up or not and if we have any more capitualtions at home, we are in big trouble. We only have ourselves to blame, been shite all season and made the managerial change far too late. Owners have taken a gamble that Caldwell will keep u up but its very much up in the air. Pep Guardiola wouldnt have done any better with this shambles of a squad.
Season tickets? Word is prices are going up. Well, good luck with that one.
I thought weeks ago that we are very similar to the 1993 team that got relegated from this level. I still feel the same.
I am not bothered about ANY of these players leaving. They are garbage. They have the fight of a tadpole.
With the news that we are for sale and the shocking way we are playing…its looking like Grimsby and Gullingham away next season. Next thing will be them advertising Season Tidmet renewals and ‘Fans Fund’ membership. More fool anybody who still buys into that shite. It will surely be the lowest season ticket uptake, this summer.
I reckon Asamoah knew the move was in the pipeline and purposely got a red. I think GC has realised he needed shut of him. He has pace, nothing else.
A real pressing matter for me is getting certain players under contract. Specifically Bettoni. If hes allowed to walk away for free in the summer, its an absolute travesty.
Well, I am actually feeling really pleased that Gary has come back.
Even more so that David Perkins has come back as well. Its given me a feel good factor, and Ive not had that for a while. I’m probably going to miss the game in Wednesday as Ive come back from Arsenal absolutely full of a cold.
Speaking of Arsenal, I am one who can appreciate the absolute gap in class from our team to theirs. Sadly, I had to try and explain it all to some of our clowns. Bloody day trippers who haven’t got a clue about football. Getting angry and calling our players rotten. Fact is, their players could drop a football into a barrell from 40 or 50 yards away. Our players would have a go, but probably land about 10 o 20 feet either side. Thats the difference! It comes so easy. That line up they had was basically the one they won 3-1 away at Inter Milan a few weeks back. We could’ve done a lot worse. They were…they are, class. We move on now with 16 cup finals coming up.
Gary is limited to the players we have now. Thats the only down side. We are very limited and hes going to actually have to play players who, all being well, he wouldn’t play. He will have no choice. We will also have Wright, Moxon and Taylor missing the games against their parent clubs.
Gary Caldwell was the best option for us. I didnt fancy any of the others on the list. It says it all with how Gary has left Exeter as well. Going with their best wishes, its amicable on all sides, which is very rare. He left a farewell video in which you could hear his voice breaking. There’s no animosity on either side. I wish them well apart from when they visit us next month.
We might just get something like our old club back.

On our way home last night, I saw an interview with Aitcheson of Exeter. He was saying that as far as he knows, he and the rest of the Exeter players are expecting Caldwell to be in and prepping them for their game on Tuesday night. Does this mean its not as cut and dried as we think? Are we in for a shock when Will Still is announced? A manager that will cost no compo fee.
The penny pinching would not surprise me at all. I hope I am wrong. But if GC is coming in, I hope he is fully aware of the task in hand. Because at this moment in time, I can just see us free falling into League 2.

But then again, to stop them would mean we would have to get near them, and frankly for that first 30 minutes especially, we didn’t get anywhere near them. Arsenal are a class team and its hard to convey just how much better they are than us. They have players who, if they wanted to, could drop a football into a barrel on the centre spot from 40 or 50 yards away. Their vision and ability is THAT good. That team they played against us went to Inter Milan a few weeks back and won 3-1. I’m actually glad they went so strong against us. They tore us a new arsehole that first 30. I was directly inline with the finishing and have to say it was as good as you would expect. Their movement, pace and vision was frightening. We were fearing the worst and thought it could end up eight or even more. They slacked off in the second half and we improved slightly as well, I think, so it stayed at 4.
My thoughts to the Emirates? Nice stadium. But for a relatively modern stadium, the toilets were a joke. Queueing in and about 8 at a time could get in. Joke in such a modern ground.
Arsenal are clearly a very touristy club as well. No real atmosphere inside the stadium. Theyre a really good club, clearly. But being so touristy isn’t for me. We had a debate what’s best, Emirates, or Old Trafford? Old Trafford came out unanimously.
So, out of the cup and we now face 16 cup finals. I’m not sure where we will pick the points up from, but we need to. And fast.
My last thoughts….on London. Deary me, what a filthy, over busy and congested shithole. And to think I moan about traffic in Orrell and Pemberton! Give me up here, any day.
I’ll take Caldwell over the other names in the list. Id consider Rowett, but I think he will be looking for a higher job.
If there were some better Candidates to enter the fray, then Caldwell would slip down my pecking order. I like the thought of Perkins coming back with him, but last time he was manager, I wasn’t keen…from what I can remember, and I think even though he won league one, the first half of the season we were shocking and he was lucky we turned it on in the second half of that season, when Yanic Wildshut came and ripped teams apart.
The fact he likes a back 3 concerns me. Our defence looks all over the place and I think that we need to shore it up with a flat back 4.
I am a bit surprise we don’t seem to be looking at a caretaker manager, someone like Steve Bruce, to see us through to the seasons end, hopefully keep us up, and give us a basis to start again from in the summer with a permanent appointment. I think we would also have a few more potential managers interested of they knew League One was guaranteed next season. That would be my worry now, if I was Hourihane and other potential managers like that. Who wants a relegation on their CV? Come the summer if are still League One, I can almost guaranteed a few more interested parties.
Then again, to bring someone in now, whatever happens with us this season, theres going to have to be so much recruitment work done, and if that work can start now, its probably for the best. For a new manager to come in, in say…June, it would be a massive task to recruit 15 players…at least…in about 8 weeks. And to get them together as a team/squad is something else entirely. But we know, as a club we know its coming. So things have to start being put into place now. Ive never met our head of recruitment, Joe Riley, but I would love to have a chat with him. And that not me being arsed, I would genuinely like to know what’s going on and his thoughts towards the inevitable recruitment that is necessary. It should be probably the busiest summer recruitment we’ve ever had. And we can’t hang about.
I am in favour of Gary Caldwell coming back.
