FA cup any day of the week as winning a major trophy like the FA cup is history making and cannot be taken away.
IN my opinion the premier league is a false closed shop division set up to make the biggest clubs richer and is probably coming to the end of its shelf life anyway before inevitable ( big club)defections to the big breakaway European super league.
The best moment I can remember ever watching Latics was when Paul Rogers knocked that last minute goal in the auto windscreens Against those horrible gits from South London.
I remember the headline in the mirror the next day ‘shout of this world’ on the back page!
FA cup for me!if they value the security of a large pay packet they will scrap and fight to stay up and the owner and his manager know this.
all we need is a big result at Reading and despite what some people are saying I think we have some winnable games in the run in.Do I want us to be relegated? No
Would I be that bothered if we were? NoThey are actually very different questions.
It’s not as though we are talking about playing Barnet and Hartlepool and Bury again. We’re talking about Derby and Forest and Leeds and Birmingham and Burnley and Blackpool and so on and so on…….
It’s a good league. I don’t WANT us to go there, and actually I don’t think we will (this year), but if it is to be then no worries.
I agree the league below is one we fought like hell to get to for six seasons so what’s the problem?
I agree with you though I dont think we will as we are now backs to the wall and usually come out fighting when we are deep in the sh/t like now.
lots of twists and turns to come and if anyone thinks Villa have turned the corner after that rubbish game today needs to think again.
glass half full!there is the other crucial factor which is that of the no hoping underdog which we have played out wonderfully since Martinez arrived. That is why saints and Reading have nicked points because nobody gave them a prayer however that mantle has now shifted to QPR and Wigan so where as we have been hit with more respect this term as to some extent have QPR that should start to wane a bit now and I think results will start to improve a bit from now on.This always happens Because the league is so poor that most teams pack up when they hit 30 odd points particularly the bottom half of the table.
We are also statistically due a win and I feel we will kick start the season at Reading as they will be favourites and they wil be expected to record a Home win.
Villa have Arsenal away next up so we could move out of the bottom three if we get the away win at Reading. As a club we have to remain positive and we are in a far better position than we think to fight another relegation battle having experienced this in the past.Probably debated this for the last nine years but here goes.
I only go to home games due to family and cost (cue sudworth) so over the last 9 years have seen us win on average 5 times a year. Is this really what I want from a saturday afternoon?
Relegation would see us more competitive and get me out the house 4 more times and have that good feeling on a Saturday night more often.
I am honestly now bored with losing and would like to watch something different, I know there’s no guarantee and we could well free fall. However think I say this every year then we beat utd and I say that one game makes the other 18 shite worth it.
the battle is not over and other clubs seem to have had a some good runs but Wigan so far haven’t.We seem to have an uncanny knack of getting into the groove at precisely the right time e with our current manager and I think you will find after this result with City clubs will take you very seriously and results may be just that bit harder to come by from now on.
I seem to remember Blackburn sneaked six points clear last season then just fell away as they all thought they were safe on 28 points.
Another factor in this turgid league is that once clubs hit around 30 points at this state they start to coast so even some of those clubs can get dragged into it.
Saints are a fairly big club as they should be in what is basically a non football part of the country so they should stay up but expect a trickier ride from here on in!If Southampton take all 3 points against City and it looks like they might I think it becomes a 3 from 4 scenario ! Next weeks game then becomes bigger than ever and if we get beat I am afraid that the large lady will begin to clear her throat !
Seem to remember a similar scenario a few years back when Blackpool had a great run around February. They started to get treated with massive respect and the form took a tumble and they were eventually relegated. Not saying this will happen to Southampton but stranger
Things have happened and the battle is no way over yet.Does anyone on here like me agree that this current side we have in the League of Greed are not a patch on Jewels Division 1 Champions.
I dont think this lot come anywhere near that amazing team despite being two divisions below.Don’t forget A good chunk of that is played in the premier league for us and took us to our best ever points tally.
Never expected anything today our record against the usual top bore sides has been cr@p this season.
Big one next week with a bit of pressure on them as I’m sure they will be fancied strongly for a home win.We have a habit of winning these crucial games under our present manager and we sure need a big result next week!
Lets hope Southampton get turned over later on.bring back the goon squad i say :evil:no self respecting hooligan would threaten and intimidate innocent football supporters.Cowardly bullies who will get their comeuppance at some point without a doubt!
that said given the expensive rates we have to pay towards the police the least you expect is to be able to get safely home after a football match.
disgrace all round!i read his book a few years back but at the end felt quite angry and sad about how this very gifted man lead his life although he wascsurrounded by stupid hangers on.
Putting cat sh/t in his mates pies and driving somebody unwittingly at high speed at the top of a van are hardly stories which set an example to young footballers starting out are they?
that said I do feel sorry for him and feel privileged that I saw him play towards the end of his career when he was still a class act even then.Think last season we had the Curent form Reading factor in that nobody gave us a prayer and we nicked results away at places like Sunderland and West Brom.
teams are showing us much more respect this season and that has made the games harder and harder to win.I think you have made some fair points but remember we were saying the same things last season, the season before and the season before that.
I posted on Saturday that no team gets relegated in February and I still think there will numerous
Twists and turns before it wraps up.the Reading game this month looks like a massive six pointer but I am certainly not writing the team off just yet and nor should you.Why is the press and everyone raving About bloody Southampton for Heavens sake? They we cr@p for an hour and grabbed a lucky goal and kicked us all over the park for half an hour-anyone thinking they are Certs for staying up needs to think again as they have the slowest back four I have seen this season and couldn’t finish a Sunday dinner-how many chances did the have???
it ain’t over yet by a long way!Sir Alex with Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola as his backroom staff would struggle to keep us up with the structure of the club. Why cant some on here not get it?.As has been said we have punched above our weight and some of that is down to Bobbys management.Id like to see Harry im a good manager if I have fortunes to spend Rednapp do a better job here.We are always gonna be a team at the wrong end of the table so just accept the fact.Im fookin fed up of hearing about players who did not want to come. That was their decision not the Clubs not Mr Whelans and not Bobbys.Give credit where credits due and if its our last season in the Prem then be proud that we kept in there for a lot longer than the fookin experts reckoned we would.well said mate if you had told me seven and a half years ago we would last eight seasons in the so called-(never in a million years) best league in the world I would have asked what you were taking!
we have had a good run and loads of luck along the way and we may still avoid the drop as Martinez teams have a weird way of grabbing points when we least expect them.
If we go we go and I will look forward to the new season and the local derbies we wil have instead of boring Dulham and some of the other deluded football clubs who grace the top half of the present league.
the current premier league is by far the poorest in standard I have ever seen and it won’t be long before the money dries up from TV as the crowds start to fall out of sheer boredom of it all.
let’s hope if the worst happens we hang on to the new breed supporters who jumped on the band wagon seven and half years ago.I think they have had it anyway regardless of his injury. They looked very poor against Norwich on Saturday despite the new signings.
I can’t believe the table though although Readings incredible luck will surely run out soon.worst performance in the second half all season and yet we gained a point.
Didn’t see many Police and surely the public should be protected from situations like this.
