Be 40k before week’s owt !
It seems that they are bragging about selling out their entire allocation for Saturday’s big game against Saints.Apparently, they’ve sold 12,000 from the stadium ticket office, and 8,000 through the RFL. But just how many of those 8,000 tickets have gone to bona-fide Wigan fans?
I think that truth be known, they’ve got a similar fanbase to ourselves, probably between 10 and 12,000. The attendances of both reflect upon this. I find the way they’ve sold tickets to be a bit bizarre. I’m assuming their allocation is 20,000. So why did the RFL have to sell 8,000 of them? Or is it not more a fact that you’ll get the fans from suchlikes as Huddersfield, Warrington, Bradford, etc going along for the day out? Come on, we all know the sport of RL is like that. Football is NOT like that, because it does NOT need to be like that.
A cup final is a smashing day out. When the Warriors go there, they will be taking 12, possibly 15,000 supporters at most.
But when WE went to a cup final, we took around THIRTY thousand fans. And yes….we’d like to go again. They’re a thriving, successful, little club. They’ve signed a lot of quality juniors, and they’ve done almost everything right. But they’ve chosen the backyard of Premiership football to do it in. ;)
How the f@ck can they sell 12k? when they were allocated 10k for sale at the stadium ticket office.?
30k+they say usual bullshite ,15k tops
;)
Theres been some crackers over the years in our Giant Killing Days (not many i know)
Most memorable to me would FA cup replay at Chelsea 1980 when little Tommy Gore scored and we won 1.0
pretty intimidating night that was getting out the ground and bloody cold.
Hopefully ive got the year right before i get bombardedMonday 14 january 1979,FAcup 3rd round(not a replay)! ;)
WEP ant OBBIE i’ll be ont Melt Down next week
…and I would like an Earthling to explain to me why the team called Wigan always play corners and dangerous free kicks either short or square, and therefore waste them all.Best ask Mr Martinez,Mr Jone’s or Mr Barrow?.
Played well today, clueless up front as usual!happy with 1pt could have and should come away with 3pts with the amount of possesion and control of the game we had.Two good results for the town, today.Well done, both
I’m reliably informed that a certain club in Wigan has sold *less tickets for a semi-final tomorrow than a 2nd division football club sold for a game on Wednesday night*no I don’t mean 3,000 which WRLFC have claimed to sell, actual figure is less than 2,000
Bolliard’s 10,000 at least,Greatest supporter’s in the world.
granted standish that is part of the reason – but for christs sake this sideways/backwards stuff is an major, major part of it.
it is awful to watch and despite it being martinez’s ethos to play that way -he cant even get them to do it well – we pass it 20 times then hoof it or just knock it into touch – the technique in the side is nil and that i am afraid is what is developed on the training ground – and to be honest can you see martinez – jones – and barrow being able to show premiership players how to do that.LMB, I’m not saying the style of play is working – as it clearly isn’t, or we’d be outplaying teams every week. As you know, I like what Martinez had been trying to achieve, but that is down to personal preference.
I agree with what you’re saying about Jones and Barrow to a certain extent though, but don’t think it’s fair to include Martinez in that equation. Martinez was a classy player – albeit in lower leagues. Arsene Wenger had a modest career as a player, as did Jose Mourinho, however, they have always surrounded themselves with successful ex-footballers as coaches, who possibly also serve as advisors. So, you may have a point that if you’re trying to instil a ‘total football’ ethos, maybe the best people to have coaching them are not ex-players who have got Altrincham, Doncaster, Chester and Bury on their CVs.[/quote]
Disagree imo Barrow,Jone’s were far better players for this club than Martinez,by a country mile!.Was that for your skullduggery experiment wigmonNo way…..Saturday night ,thas been towd. Finger’s crossed :)
i always thought football was supposed to entertain –say anything you want about the pros and cons of martinez and if he will succeed or fail, but one thing is for sure there is not one person on that ground tonight -or come to think of it most of the games this season who can honestly hand on heart say they are not bored stiff by martinez’s negative formations and tactics.
forget losing week in week out it is the sheer mundane play that is driving the non season ticket holders away.
i liken it to watching 2 teams who i have no affinity with playing a friendly.
Nail on the head LMB!

You lot don’t understand “The Plan”!.
Under Bruce, Wigan averaged 220 passes per match. “The team did well under Steve, but I want us to pass the ball more, to get away from the territorial game,” said Martinez. “At Swansea, we averaged over 550 passes per game. I want Wigan to do the same.
Hope he’s taken Graeme,Graham and Reeve’s with him.
